One of my favorites! Marantz 2325 gets Sparkos Labs BA312-M upgrade, new lamps, and more! 

Love watching you at work on the old timers. I'm 77 and remember trolling the neighborhood on trash curb day and picking up all the tossed radios and bringing them home to work on. That was back in the 1950s. My dad was a ham operator and I learned to read schematics and solder at the age of 10. Still remember the fun of the challenge in trouble shooting and bringing them back to life. That was back when people threw away the beautiful multichannel wood veneer cabinet radios. Keep up the good work.

Just found a 2325 4.5 hours away a couple of days ago. Way too good of a deal to pass up so now I am the owner of an awesome 2325! Will be going through it soon for a refresher!!

In 1972 I purchased a Marantz 2270 with optional walnut cabinet, Kenwood #777 speakers and a Phillips turntable from the Frankfurt Audio Club in Frankfurt Germany. I was stationed north of there when I was in the Army. They had fantastic deals on about every high end audio equipment you could think of. It served me well many years till a lightning strike ended it's life. Unbeknownst to me I purchased a European version. That was 220v 50 cycles. The instructions said to cut off the plug and install a standard 110v plug. The electronics would make the change internally. It worked for a time. Then one night I threw an outdoor party and brought it out to provide music. Well, I pushed it a little too hard, and popped an internal fuse. I had it repaired under warranty. It took a few weeks for the part to arrive from overseas. I got it back, set it up again and it immediately popped the same fuse. The repairman couldn't figure out the problem. He asked for the schematic. There was a different fuse for the 220v model. He installed the 110 v fuse. It was corrected, and went on to serve many years till it was struck by lightning. R.I.P. 2270.

I had my 2325 serviced and 30 caps and the filter caps replaced. Wow what a difference! It's like brand new. Pushing close to 135 wpc. Plenty of power and huge bass! LEDS really set ot off. This one of the best receivers to purchase and restore. Worth every penny.

The last remaining or one of them that treats analog respectfully…fr the 60 to 70’s models…I always lived that name then…that metallic coolness or coldness😂❤…i btw recalls my teacher in an electronic course fr vocational course…a real guru but couldn’t not save our color tv…or the fixing y materials are too much for salvaging it😢…ty❤🎉 btw that was in the 70’s too when Sony were in Japan lol

Bought a Marantz Esotec ST-8 Tuner with oscilloscope at a flea market back in 2005 for 40 bucks. Sold it on eBay for 1200 bucks. I should've kept it. They are super rare. Thing was in mint condition.

The best thing about Marantz receivers is that flywheel station selector. They feel good to use and have the practical purpose of making large tuning adjustments smooth and easy.

Bought my 2325 in high school, mid 70’s. Sold it early 90’s. Still crying. 🥲 but, recently bought a 2275 for various reason. A new WC-22 (new construction cabinet from Germany) coming soon. Love your videos, your knowledge and your delivery of that information.

Great work on this 2325, these are such a nice model. Have serviced/overhauled a couple myself. They take a bit of time go over, but so worth it in the end. And agree with the power amplifier modules having wiring loom sockets, so much easier to work on.

Always loved Marantz and live right near their factory building in Chatsworth, CA. (not there any more). I don't know anything about electronics and repair but couldn't stop watching how thorough you are. You are an audio ninja savant ;)

Holy smokes. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I enjoyed watching your process thoroughly. I have a restored 2325 that I have been enjoying for the past 10 years. Like this example, it is cosmetically perfect. I need to de-ox some of the pots again (naturally). I was listening with my 2325 going through my JBL Century L100 speakers. I use my setup daily for hours and hours at a time. I LOVE Marantz receivers. I have ever since I was a teenager in the 1970's. Dude. DUde. DUDE!!!! This totally fixed my no left channel on my 2325!!! Thank You! Weird. Had no left channel. But if I cranked it up far enough with the balance to the left, mind you no sound coming from there, would come Blasting on. Started turning the speaker switch off and cranking it to avoid the blast. It really only happened once. But yeah. Why that would fix it temporarily, when the problem was the Pre to Main jumpers. Just barely not making contact I guess. Anyway. Thanks so much. 🤙

I love my 2325. Just recapped the whole thing (including the main bulk caps), did the LED upgrade, new Vellum, restringing, new NPNs and PNPs in the preamp and phono, and deoxit F5 on all the pots, D5 on all switches. It looks spectacular and performs flawlessly with >165Watts per channel. Such a great receiver! Thanks to your channel for multiple tips. Next upgrade is re-veneering a vintage wood case for this beast.

Beast !!! still enjoying me 2270 paired with the Kef Q350 sounds great for pricepoint and Yeah Sparkos have some amazing electronic componetes and Op-amps thanks for the video ! I have a Sansui G8000 i need to recap the Preamp board , The direct switch has static yes i cleaned it but still static and the left speaker will cut in and out but when using G8000 in amp mode i have no problems .

Great job, young man. My 2325 needs done as I’m sure I am the only one that has been into it. I do have one lamp out, last year. Every few years I take my air compressor and blow the insides out . I have the walnut cover also. It still sounds Great but at 50 years old , like me when you are old things get worn out ! I use my Marantz daily as I’m disabled now and listen to music more now. I can remember my children saying please Daddy don’t turn your music on. Hahahahahaha 😂 but it’s funny that now they listen to a lot of what I played to them when they were young ! I’m just scared of shipping ect. I know I am going to have to get done but it is like one of my children. I don’t want anything to happen to it, but good things. After seeing you do all that I know what I must do. Thanks !

I had one and it was awesome. Obviously I did follow the recommended procedure and pressure washed it with pool water and simple green. Muting circuit was bad and also fixed the power switch. Found an OEM unit. I repaired it and sold it for $650.00. Paid $150 from the original owner. The Dolby system was for the older cassette players.

I would love the hi fi manufacturers to build NEW equipment with this look .

I bought a used 2325 about 10 years ago from a private owner. It was in a wood cabinet over the metal cabinet so it ran really warm. It was very dirty to the point that there were many tiny insects that decided to make their home in it. A repair shop had put in the ugliest LEDs on panel that were actually purple. Only reason I bought it was that it had a PERFECT faceplate meaning no scratches or marks anywhere. A good friend of mine who was a former Marantz bench technician from back in the days of this receiver told me that the only thing he couldn't repair was a scratchy faceplate. I shipped it out to him and he transformed it into the most beautiful looking and operating receiver I ever saw in my life. NO LEDs whatsoever thank God and he made sure the correct lights went in and even changed out the vellum paper that sits behind the fuse lamps and meters. He even had a plastic faceplate cover for the 2325 that the factory used to protect the faceplate during shipping so I just keep it in place just in case. Thats how much I respect it. I'm basically a separates person and have bought and sold many such separates over the years but every once in a while I get the urge to put my 2325 back in the rack and use it for a week or so just to keep it exercised and it never disappoints me. I'm saving it for my old age when I only have a minimum amount of space. In the end someone will just have to pry it out of my cold dead hands before I give it up.

I have been using a Marantz 2325 and four Klipsch speakers for over 30 years. I’d like to have mine re-capped ect. It sounds great as a matter of fact it’s been on for 3 months. I use it all the time so I thought it would be better to idle in stead of turning it on and off several times aday. I blow it out every few years ect. Love it ! My big khorns can cook , set of Belle’s with them is live entertainment !!

Excellent Video!! - I should have replaced the preamps but I didn't. Did replace the xstrs in the phono preamps however. I bridge rectified and filtered the dial / mode lamp power supply and retrofit LEDs for all lamps. A smart thing to do! No more 8 VAC running around with low level audio - now 9 VDC only. Current draw is reduced by a factor of 8 or more. Had to cut traces to mode lamps and bridged with 220 ohm current limit resistors and used White LEDs (20 ma). Made a new dial LED dial light strip circuit board with 11 Parallel X 3 Series Blue LED's with no current limit resistor. Since the source voltage is 9 VDC, the current across each of the eleven times 3 - 3 volt series connected LED's is 20 ma.. The 2 meters each got 2 Parallel X 3 Series Blue LED's . Blue color of the replacement LED strip is beautiful and perfectly even. Be careful of all the solid wire-wrap wires - they break easily - Don't be afraid of soldering the wire-wrap posts!. Take lots of photos before digging in. Label wires with masking tape if necessary! UV curing Bondic adhesive is very useful for strain relief and insulation. It is interesting to note that there was only one bad value/ESR Electrolytic capacitor out of some 120 or more replaced in my unit - better safe than sorry though!!

Let's talk more about installing Sparko's op amps in vintage equipment. That's amazing. Can you do this with other vintage receivers? What a huge upgrade that must be!

I found your channel while looking for a repair for a 2325. You are an engineer, I am a retired engineer. You have a Jag to restore/modify, I do too. I appreciate your love for things old and vintage. I fished my 2325 out of a recycle bin, beat up and damaged. I have a lot of vintage stereo gear and thousand's of records. Above all, I value your honesty and your admittance of mistakes and how you go about correcting them on both the stereo gear and the Jag. You remind me of me at your age.

Been doing this over 40 years and never seen a bad BA312 in the wild. No one has shown that the Sparkos is even reliable or sounds better. THD at least measures the same in the only comparison I'm aware of.

A piece of string around the back of the small knobs makes it easier to pull them off w/o having to pry.

I recently sold my 2325 that I bought brand new in the 70's. The only obvious thing that was wrong with it was the main speaker switch that wouldn't latch. It was very heavy!

It's a good looking reciever for sure. Does it sound as good as it looks? I remember Marantz from hi fi magazines back in the 70's. 125w?? I had 45w in my Quad 33+303 amplifier. Enough. Unless you like to throw parties and annoy your neighbors. 😊

With Marantz 22 series..it’s all about symmetry, my favorite (which I have) is the 2240B only five knobs across the front, the black screen is wider to cover the small buttons This one is not too cluttered..The 2270 starts to get too busy

I have a 2330, she’s the queen of the fleet (of 7 receivers and integrated amps). I believe the 2330 allows for adding a Dolby module externally. *Nope: it’s an FM Quad output, not Dolby. Dolby sucked in the 1970s, it suppressed too much of the music. Dolby may have improved over time and, I believe, had a longer life on cassette decks than receivers.

I have a 2330B got it in 1980 from my Grandfather had bulbs replaced once and a couple services over the years it needs some attention but they're no longer any good techs where i live to service it😢

I’m not a tech and the nearest one to to me is a couple hours drive. However I do love the older marantz sound. I came across a 2325 that has been sitting for over 10 years in a locker that was my brothers. It looks like it’s in perfect shape, this one has a wood case and a metal venting grill on top that slides out towards the back Doesn’t have a scratch on it, once plugged up it lit up, all lights seem to be working. I tried it with speakers, headphones, record player snd radio mode. I get no sound at all, no audible click from the on off switch either. Other than that it looks perfect. Any ideas where to begin ?

Does it have balance on the the tone controls?

I have a 2250 similar in appearance to this and a 2326B silver face. So here's my deal. I have my system paired with Klipsch KG 2.5 speakers and when it works, it works great. However, one of the channels, using either receiver, will cut out on me. Nothing out of one speaker or the other. I'm primarily using an Auris Blueme HD DAC. Are these issues with the serviced Marantz receivers, the serviced Klipsch speakers, the bluetooth DAC, or from interference to the speaker wire since I cannot avoid routing the right speaker past the high voltage power strip and TV gear? I had similar issues playing LP's as well in the past.

What's the osciloscope you are using? What brands/models do you recomend for doing this?

If you have CompactCassettes recorded with Dolby B and only a new Tape Player this Receiver is maybe a solution to play the recordings in full qualitiy.
