Someone posted this vid to the dev's discord. The dev then linked to it as an announcement.

Man, I just hate when I open a wormhole and a giant space army pops out, devastating my home planet. Rough days.

I bought this and helped beta test it through its multiple versions through it's development. It is an amazing product and the dev really cares about the community and getting it right. I highly recommend it if you are into space sims.

"Oxygen catastrophe" is a term that is really use and happened on Earth. since life was indeed for a long term anaerobic and oxygen was their toxic poop (photosynthesis!). The oxygen also reacted with iron in the ocean and formed certain iron ore deposits during that time.

Torture the shrubby: beat around the bush. Clever way to show the difficulties in translation.

"Oxygenation" with a g in the middle: adding oxygen (usually the gas) to a system. Usually good for aerobic life as we know it. "Oxidation" with a d in the middle: chemically stripping electrons off of molecules in a system, usually by combining it with O(-2) oxygen atoms or some other OXIDIZING AGENT like a peroxide or chromate. These reactions can disrupt electron flow within organisms, denature protein structures, change the pH, and cause other biochemical changes that usually result in the DEATH of whatever life form you're looking at.

I'm amazed at how one person can create something like this. You'd have to have such a wide but detailed knowledge of so many disciplines: game design, graphics, storytelling, physics, mechanics, audio/music, mathematics, economy, etc, etc. Just super impressive. Have had this on my wish list since the last video, looks like it's ready for me now!

Splat, when I get my own spaceship and start crewing it up, you are at the top of my list for geology officer.

The "Put a note on the world map to remind yourself about stuff for later" is AMAZING!! I love this thing in Starcom and the first one was amazing.

Always get a kick out of "There was a tutorial but I wasn't paying to much attention" keep it up.

For anyone that never herd or played in the 90s / 80s there was a game called STAR COMMAND That was really cool

I’ve played this game all throughout it’s early access after seeing how good the previous game was, and throughout development the dev has been incredibly active and helpful in the community and shown real care with the game’s systems. This is an incredible game and I have almost 150 hours on it from multiple playthroughs on basically each major version of the game.

I put 80+ hours in this gem. I got addicted to it. Great little game and I enthusiastically recommend it to space RPG / exploration lovers.

Hey splat, Earth had an Oxygen Catastrophe too! It's an example of a mutation leading to radical shifts in the atmosphere causing mass extinctions, which I'm sure is completely unlikely to happen again. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Oxidation_Event

Loved the first one, it had some issues but given that it was made by one guy for the most part i was more than willing to deal with some jank. I've been looking forward to Unknown Space for years, can't wait for 1.0 in a couple of days.

Ships burning in space only really implies that oxygen is feeding the flames, which should actually be *super* alarming given that space is a vacuum. Maybe slightly less so if your ship has some way to reproduce oxygen (for example; hydroponics) and can grow both food and some way to duplicate photosynthesis effect. Also really scary since Oxygen can of course... asplode too. Cool effect though.

Reminds me heavily of an old school game called Escape Velocity, but better in almost every way (which you would expect).

Wow, the combat looks a lot like Starsector. That's a good thing, we need more games like this

SPAZ was easily my favorite game when it came out. SPAZ 2 did not live up to its predecessor. It was so easy to get into and play for hours.

I bought this game after just a few minutes of watching your video. I dont buy too many games but man this game was worth it! I have already put 28 hours into it in 3 days. Such a cool game and its made by one person, it just blows my mind! This game is definitely worth a try if your not into triple A game bs we have nowdays! I do wish it had a MMOG element to it where you can incounter other players in the open world.

the dev nailed: story progression, ability progression, tech tree/reveal, player controls, ship design oh and the art/feel of the planets...just wow

As a massive Escape Velocity fan, its always intriguing seeing modern EV-like games still being created. I don't think I've played a good EV-like since Endless Sky, which was amazing if you enjoy the genre.

7:05 Actually, there was such an event on earth with the cyano bacteria. The climate became off-balance and with too much oxygen, there was not only devastating effects when there was a fire somewhere, but the climate of the planet drasticly cooled down so earth became a lifeless iceplanet.

Here you've got a character with a mug the size of a small cockpit sporting a humongous pair of whiskers, and he's called WhiskaMug. I like that kind of integrity in a game. I like that.

So it's a better looking Netrek. Cool, loved playing that game in the computer science lab in the 90's

I'm so happy this is finally in 1.0. I loved starcom nexus and have been eagerly waiting for this game since it was announced. I've done by best to avoid playing it in early access because I wanted to feel the game in its entirety. I'm so excited!

This series is beyond old and I love how far it's come.

Earth went through an oxidation event like that which killed many of the anaerobic microbe species that were the only things that lived on Earth at the time.

Okay, this game seems REALLY cool. I don't have the tiem to enjoy this kind of slow game, but wish I did...

Oh nice. Looks fun. Specially like the way you gather resources to improve your ship and it gets fully refunded when you change things up. Makes you want to explore just to increase your resource pool. Ship construction looks real intuitive too. I feel like buying this just to build a Borg sphere and spinning circles around enemies while shooting lasers.

It looks like a fancier version of Escape Velocity from 20 years ago. I'm excited!

Man, that feeling when you find a good game you never heard of after early access. Can enjoy it without having already played it 500x times.

It was the 1st single player game that i fished since Dark Souls 1 :) Very addictive.

I have been patiently waiting for this game to be finished. So happy the day has come.

Looks kind of interesting, as a sci-fi nerd I like a bit of narrative structure to my shooty shooty ship games.

Got about 50hrs in it and enjoying it. Actualy it is pretty combat heavy, easily 50% or more of the gameplay has been combat. Which is fine because it's enjoyable.

Played this one for 15 hours or so, I remember "Completing" it, let's see how much has changed~

I remember playing a game with this kind of battle mechanics back in a day, maybe on an old pre-Jobs Mac. The fun part was, that you could cheese even the best enemy ships, by syncing to their speed and flying backwards, until they get in range of your cannons. The bug/feature was, that they didn't shoot & you could take 'em down!

LOVE the look of this game. It reminds me a bit of Escape Velocity in the exploration. There are a few other games that I played over the years that never quite hit the mark on the mechanics you touched on here. I'm beyond excited to dive into this one!

I was so reminded of some other game by this. Took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that this is a sequel to Starcom: Nexus. Also a banger of a game, if you like this one.

Good to see this one. Again. I've been on board since very early days and this game has come so far and it's a pretty damned good game. I've got a little over 100 hours in it and It's always a good time. Weapon balance is still a bit janky, but you'll figure out what works quickly enough--or die trying. Hint: lots of missiles means never having to say you're sorry.

Its' a really great game, I finished it in about 30 hours and I wish there were at least 30 more.

Heh, I picked this up after one of your earlier previews and don't regret it in the slightest. I played it a bunch through a couple of updates, then put it aside until now. I also snagged his first game, which is very similar, on a Steam sale. Don't regret that either. Back in the 80's/early 90's there used to be a few games like this and they faded away. So while this is all new and shiny, it has, for me at least, an old school feel.

I bought this after watching your last video on it. It's a great game, and I highly recommend it. Thanks for showing it to me~

Loved the first game, got the second already a while ago, but have been waiting for it to be finished. Exploration in the first game blew my mind, and what I had played of the second was even better.

Check out the Oxygen Catastrophe on earth, it was pretty wild. It's why we have those giant banded iron formations.

I knocked this game out earlier this month after I came across your previous video; really solid experience and you can tell the dev is building to a lot of possible DLC story beats. However I found the endgame sequence to be a real brick wall if you didn't build your ship exactly right.

This game strongly reminds me of Rebel Galaxy 1, it's so tempting.

I love games like this. Need some more quality games with lots of content in this space genre.

I would love to see the biology of silicon bases life. The energy of that atom is pretty impressive compared to carbon and silicon is malleable. I guess a Mr Fantastic would be something you can imagine can occur.

Yep. As a beta player, this is a game that is worth your purchase. Hearkens back to the old '90's exploration games like Sentinel Worlds, Starflight, and Master of Orion. Peace!

I want a space game like this where your weapons use the computer targeting to auto lock on to enemies (rather than the mouse) and you instead manage movement, energy usage, shields, and crew.

We have anaerobic life on Earth, like some bacteria (if you classify it as life) and I think some protozoas and amoeba.
