I love this keyboard. I bought the RK G68. I love the red switches that it comes with as they are little heavier than Gateron Reds. I personally like the asthetic of the RK 61, but I can't live without arrow keys and Del/PgUp/PgDn.
@@jakubmatecki9583 ik I'm a bit late but I'm pretty sure the rk g68 has a usb 2.6 ghz connector, a usb hub on the back, and only for an extra 10 or so dollars.
@@jakubmatecki9583 also it is hot swappable, meaning you can remove the switches without a de-soddering gun, and its battery life is double of the original
I didnt know about this. I’d pick this up. Im quite satisfied with my RK61, but I realized that I need something with dedicated arrow buttons. Now this is something I need
Thanks for the recommendation. I decided to get one of these as my first mechanical 65% and I'm really impressed. I've got blue switches on mine, and they sound and feel awesome.
I never liked my RK61 when I first got it but it's grown on me. I love it now. Love the mini form factor and minimalistic styling. Drivers are a little buggy to get working but once it's set up it's fire.
As a developer, I would say the Rk68 suits me better. I initially got the RK61 but realized that I work with the ? and / symbols a lot, so I returned it and got the RK68 instead. I love how it feel so far.
@@ZayyanAmir7MU Those symbols are actually integrated into the up arrow key (you can search for the RK61 image for more info). They are usable but required some toggling between regular keys and arrow keys, which takes extra effort from me while I need to access them more frequently. If you don't use them as much, I think you should get it.
RK seems to buy whatever switches are cheapest at the time of re-supply, as they have used Kailh, Gateron, Jixian, Outemu. Apparently Kailh makes the RK branded switch.
To be fair the whole purpose of buying hot swappable keyboards are to pick and choose your switches, so them getting the cheapest switches is probably a good thing since it also lowers the price of the product.
hmmmm i need to ask, can i switch to outemu switches for rk68 specifically? been planning to get this keyboard and also planning to change the switches to outemu... i dont even know if outemu switches can replace the switches cuz ppl usually replace TTC switches with either cherry mx or gateron switches...
For anyone getting this keyboard for hot swapping the switches: there may be a chance it doesn’t actually fit because the pcb lights are a bit to high so some switches may not fit I did find out the unfortunate way
i got the gateron red variant of this keyboard and it surprised me with the nice stock typing experience! the stabilizers were prelubed and sounded really good. i did add foam and lube into the switches and now it sounds even better.
@@ibarelywatchyoutube4079 old model didnt but the new model is hot swappabble watch consumer tech review video on unboxing of rk68 and in his description he has the link to hotswapabble version (new one)
My K552 was causing Problems after a couple of Months. Ghosting on the Spacebar/D Key, got sick of it and returned it and bought a K68 on your Recommendation. So far it's Amazing it being a hot swappable keyboard makes it even better! Looking forward to Modding it myself in the Future :)
I just picked this board up & did an unboxing. I'm not as experienced in this at the moment so if they want more details I've left them a link to visit your channel for more info.
Great video! Torn between this and k6 hot swappable. This sounds like the best bang for the buck. Looks like k6 is better for the long term but the keyboard height is holding me back.
What did you buy in the end? I am torn between both as well and I want to change the switches to tangerine but I found a comment here that said the tangerine switches don’t fit in the RK so….
I just got the RK68 wired (detachable USB C) variant of this keyboard. The RGB is much brighter than shown in the video, though that may have been settings or lighting for the camera. Also on my keyboard there are no physical markings for switching mac/win nor macro labeled keys but the functionality is there. I like this as it's a cleaner look. Currently the software for the RK68 is just a splash screen (go figure). The RK71 software can be used, there are more steps of brightness but actually setting it to brightest will not make it any brighter than out of the box (at least for me) and it is hard to compare setting in software and then keystroke setting as they seem to just override each other (they are not in sync and the software dose not update if you change it on the keyboard). Anyway, the max 5 keyed setting is brighter on mine. I have the sudo Blue switches and they are nice to type on (I am on macOS 11) but confusing as in the manual it says "Optical" switches. Overall I like the keyboard but think it is overpriced. The company makes many variants including a new one with hot-swappable switches, bluetooth, RF, and USB ports but they mixed it up in a bad way like giving it only 2.4 bluetooth. I don't know what is up with that :/
This really helped me because i was hesitating to buy it but you really showed me every feature it gives me and a good look what are pros and cons i really enjoyed this and i hope many people can support you because this video was absolutely amazing! ❤
This video was super helpful to me in finally deciding to get this board. I've read that the PCB has bulging LEDs that make some switches incompatible, do you know if that interferes at all with Cherry Profile keycaps? Thank you so much!
I just ordered this keyboard for a build for a client. After listening to their needs, which consisted of being able to hard-wire when necessary, but to have multiple connections from 2.4 and Bluetooth. They loved the hot-swappable options, so they can go tactile, linear, and click. I let them type on three of my main boards to get the feel of a typing experience, a gaming experience, and the sound of the key switches and key caps that are available. They loved the board as is and they wanted the red switch and asked me to handle to lube, film, and I also added per switch pad. I re-lubed the stabs with Krytox 205 go switches and used GPL 105 for the springs. The client was very pleased as the board was exactly what they needed and it didn't break the bank. Matter of fact, if anyone wants the key switches lubed, filmed, and stabilizers balanced, lubed, holee mod (if wanted), clipped if needed. Let me know I will take care of it.
I wish someone would do a review of the updated version of the rk68 on Taobao, the rk387. I think it comes with a better battery (3180 mAh), a detachable frame, and cherry mx switches
I've watched so many of your awesome videos. I just got the RK 65% -- and I'm back now listening to your typing samples. Switching from a laptop keyboard (years) to this with brown switches, I'm feeling "meh" about the feel typing.... whole thing sounds hollow. Trying to sort out if blues would feel better (or just be noisier). You do a great job with your reviews and demos!
i never get why these tiny compact keyboards never swapped FN key and Windows key on default, i mean the fn are highly utilized while gamers dont want to accidentally press the Win key too or even lock the win key so swapping fn key to the left side will allow tons better function controls while one handed
Hi Betty! I just saw this on Reddit, can you confirm? Here's the ones not listed in the manual: FN + ESC = ` FN + ` = Print screen (use actual `~ button, not FN + ESC) FN + [ or ] = Home or End FN + Del = Insert FN + Pgup = Pause FN + Pgdn = Scroll lock
New upgrade, the RK837/G68, lots of new features, thinking of getting one for myself hehe. Here in the Philippines, its about 2,400 - 2800 Pesos, which is around $25-35
@@JvFan-rx5fl Yes. The RK855/RK68 is a non hotswap rgb backlit dual mode 65% keyboard, while the RK837/RKG68 is a hotswappable, rgb or white backlight, tri mode (bluetooth, wired, 2.4ghz) with removable bezels. There are some videos of it in RU-vid!
i purchased a few of these because i really enjoyed the first one i bought. My first one came with gateron swiches but the others came with ttc and their own rk switch. it was a little bit disappointing. Consistency is my only problem with their keyboards
I was strongly considering this or the DIERYA 65% keyboard when I was first starting out in the hobby... but decided to spend a little more and get the Durgod Hades 68 instead 🐙
I found the way to adjust media functions on Windows. You firstly need to lock number by pressing Fn Left Ctrl, and after that you're able to use media by pressing Fn + F7/8/9/10/11/12
Thank you very much, I've been waiting for this review. Will you reviewing the reviewing the other RK G68/ RK 837 keyboard? It's almost identical to this keyboard but it has a removable top cover and I think it also has a bigger battery.
I just revieced the RK71 and while everything about it is fine for the price, i'm returning it because there is zero support for multimedia keys on windows 10. Software and firmware updates don't change this, and the other thing is there is no reprogrammable second layer. What a shame, if the media keys worked I would have been happy with it.
Really late but I wanted to ask - on Amazon the RK68 says it’s hotswappable. Is that true? Which switches could I replace it with? Idk if you’ll see this but if you do, I would really appreciate insight. Thanks! Awesome video and channel btw. The site is also very professional!
i honestly am having trouble with this myself, but this keyboard is indeed hot swappable. with anything that’s 3 or 5 pin, but i’ve heard that the leds bulge out from under the switch, so you have to get switches that have a rectangle gap under the switch itself that can accommodate the led and fit, on some descriptions of keyswitches sometimes they should say if the keyswitch accomadate leds, like “support for flush and certain protruding leds” and if the keyswitch doesn’t work it should say “protruding leds will not fit with bottom housing” or something like that, hope this helps
I just bought this from Amazon so thanks for the review. Hopefully my version, as claimed in the ad, has hot-awappable switches. I saw a few reviews on there that said theirs was soldered. Also heard its impossible to find warranty info. Oh well. Hope mine lasts after 30 days
Ok so ik I'm late but the switches on this keyboard come in 3. It's rk switches (rebranded huano switches) gateron switches, and ttc switches. So if you order this you could get lucky but imo the switches (if you don't get gateron) isn't a deal breaker
The arrogance and sense of superiority in the custom keyboard community is what kept me from giving it a try. For 6 years I've been a very simple cherry mx green, pbt keycaps, and o-rings with no frills kinda typist. Lubing and band-aid mods on super exclusive switches just seemed pretentious. However, your humility and modesty has inspired me. I just ordered hundreds of dollars worth of stuff like switch openers, springs, a hot swap keyboard, and foam along with some box navy switches to dip my toes into this hobby. I even backed that epomaker keyboard you reviewed on kickstarter. Thank you for showing me this hobby isn't just full of snobs trying to be better than everyone else and can be approached with a sense of honest, genuine interest.
Hey, I'm so glad to hear that. I totally see what you're talking about though. Nowadays, it seems to be more accessible, yet still a bit on the expensive/exclusive side though
I just picked up the RK84 a month ago and could use some help. I use it wired but it takes forever to connect to my PC on start up. My switches are set to off but it goes through a routine of trying to wirelessly connect Everytime I boot it up (and press a key to wake it up). Only eventually switching to USB once it gives up on wireless..is this normal?
I got the RK84 w/Red Switches, only regret is I didn't buy it sooner from Ali-Express. Only paid $58 + tax ordered 3/22 received 4/3rd (not bad). I'm over the moon w/this KB This morning ordered a set of Grey Pudding Caps to play around with. This KB doesn't feel cheap at all. Its size is taking getting used to, always had a full size KB. Don't know howto game. Got the Black model, thinking I could mod it as black & white but curiosity got grey pudding caps instead. Don't have to make it all pudding caps, we'll see. What you think? I'm developing a fetish for this kb? Odd🤣
I have questions about charging. Couldn’t find info about this sorry, 1. How to know if it’s lowbatt? What’s the indicator before it just stops working? 2. When plugged (while not in use), how do you know it’s charging? 3. Lastly, how do you know it’s fully charged? Thanks.
On my RK68 (I have the non-rgb version fwiw, might be different on the rgb), the backlighting switches off and the Fn key flashes intermittently on low battery (~30% iirc-I wish it waited until around 10-15% but it is what it is). Backlighting stays on while connected unless I sleep/shut down the pc it’s connected to. There’s no explicit indication of fully charged on the board itself as far as i can tell, but (on windows) the board reports its battery level in your Bluetooth device settings once you turn it back on, so you could check that way as a workaround. Sadly, windows doesn’t have a native feature to pipe that info to somewhere useful like the taskbar… real missed opportunity imo.
i may have bought a different RK68 model. Not RGB, hotswappable switches and keys, 3 devices to connect only. the letdown of this RK68 is the missing secondary function keys, which is already mentioned here.
I rly wanna get this keyboard but it doesn’t ship to where I live or anywhere near it, and as I’m aware I’m going to Japan soon so I will ship it to Japan, and claim it at the hotel
I think the CNC aluminum version of the board looks great. I will be picking one up very soon. I expect it will need some work to get what I want out of it, but it's inexpensive enough for what it is.
Why is the brightness so low I think they definitely needed to up that also question can you put like a tab keycap on the right shift ? Cause I bought keycaps that arnt comparable ?
I have this keyboard but it has an extra row on the far right. It’s called the rk71 and I got it for $35 on Amazon. It’s a coupon you apply and you don’t have to type anything in. You still get $15-$17 off so if anyone wants the rk71 go ahead. Only nack is it’s blue-backlit only
Sick Keyboard I'm thinking of picking it up! Just one question, does the rk68 have a software? For like rgb, macros, etc. I'm just wondering since the rk61 has a software. Thanks!
RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK61 Hot Swappable and FANTECH MAXFIT61 Hot Swappable Which is better without Bluetooth? Can cherry mx switch be used in both? Which of the two keyboards is stronger? 💪🤓
Great review! Mine just arrived today (no manual unfortunately, and nothing to be found on RK's website). Do you know if it's possible to switch between wired/wireless mode without toggling the switch on the bottom? Thanks in advance!
i wanna get this keyboard, but i’ve heard and seen that the led lights bulge out from under the switch, so only switches with a certain rectangle gap can fit and i feel like that really limits me, but i cant help but want to get this keyboard, i love the sleek design and layout, is there anyway i can fix the problem with the led lights? i have no problem taking out the lights myself if that’s what’ll solve the problem
Cool, I checked this out when I was looking for my first! Some really crazy prices out there if you can get over switches and other shortcomings. Usually budgets have nice features like this 1 though so it kind of offsets.
Just got this for 25$. Now to play the waiting game with China.. But at that price I got it just to try it out. I have the Corsair K95 Platinum now and this one wont replace that probably but I am looking into using the RK68 on the couch because of the bluetooth feature.
hey betty .. may I have the shots of the manual for this keyboard.. cuz i get the e-manual and it is not functioning... so I am unable to use all the features that the keyboard provide for me :(
There’s now a RK G68 on Amazon US; basically a hot swap version of this. Has two USB passthrough. Standard choice of Gateron red, brown, blue. Not liking the included key caps though.
