After some thought, we decided to buy the Mahlkonig EK43 coffee grinder. From research to connecting with other individuals in the industry, we came to the conclusion that this was the coffee grinder for us. Here are a couple reasons why we decided to go with the Mahlkonig EK43 grinder.

I’ve had mine in my kitchen at home for +5 years now. Complete overkill for a home setup, but I like the fact that I probably won’t ever need to buy another grinder! It’s so simple, reliable and consistent. Worth the initial investment, for sure.

Overkill but a dream to have hanging out in a kitchen! You're totally right though, the reliability and consistency is what we want from a grinder or any piece of equipment. They did a great job with this!

What’s your guy’s opinion on using the EK43 as a main grinder for espresso for a cafe? There’s no timed doses but for a low volume cafe that shouldn’t be an issue..?

Hey Emanuel! Thanks for watching! If you plan ahead and dose out coffees ahead of time or it's really low volume to where you can do that on the spot, then it'll work well. I think you're familiar with Proud Mary in Portland? I believe they use EK's for some of their espresso if I'm not mistaken.

hi! what grind setting do you use for your 5lb cold brew recipe? super stoked to have just unboxed ours. thx!

This will really depend on how your EK burrs are calibrated. To give you some reference points, we're brewing batch brew ( drip ) at about 7ish with pour overs in the 6 - 4 range. With those settings, we're doing cold brew between 14-16.

Did you notice fines in the feeder when you received your unit new? I’m wondering if Mahlkonig bench test all their grinders before shipping to their wholesaler/distributors?

I can't remember, but I don't recall noticing fines in the feeder. Also, we got our EK aligned before getting shipped so they may have made sure that wasn't left behind.

@@MirrorCoffeeRoasters I emailed some distributors and Mahlkonig (WA)- they confirmed bench testing before shipping to distributors. I know it’s been a while since this video was published. Thank you for responding!

why did you not consider the ditting?

We just weren't familiar enough with Ditting, and nearly all the people we spoke to or know, have been using the EK43. Taking a risk on a grinder we have never used and neither have any of our peers had too much uncertainty for such an investment. Great question, thanks for asking!

@@challoy06141988 The EK43 that is? It's a pretty great grinder. We'd recommend getting it aligned at purchase though.
