You'd be surprised what a dedicated fanbase can do. Sailor Moon S, a super broken, super obscure Japan-only SNES fighting game got brought to the state by one single guy that liked the game a little too much. Now it's one of the most beloved meme game of the FGC.
I don't hate on anyone that does speed runs for any game but sometimes with these random ass games and how much time they put into finding exploits and glitches just boggles my mind. I find it quite ridiculous tbh but that's because I love taking my time with games.
@BAM! It's easy to say that when Cr1t basically spoiled it right at the beginning which primed you to look for it. When you just watch the video on its own for the first time it's not so obvious
So insanely glad to see this amazing speedgame getting the attention it deserves! I've poured a lot of time and dedication into this game over the last 7 years and I'm ecstatic seeing our story spreading the way it is. Edit: Yes, I am The Guy.
iRule is basically a real life naruto, he came back as IceBagels giving hope to the community that he’s back as full grown man mustering all his skill that has been forge years and lastly he evolved to Mkarma like he is a shinobi that has become a hokage telling his journey for the next generations
So one cool thing about our favorite guy Julius Caesar is that we have documentation that he himself authored about his own rule and conquest as a leader in the Roman Empire. But what's funny is, he took into account the idea that his writing would exist long after he's gone; so, he wrote in third person. "Caesar did this, Caesar did this *because*..." and that's actually pretty cool to get the man's personal account of his own actions. Given the way MKarma structured his video, one could make the case that what he did makes him a modern Caesar.
@@sneezewax3567 they did the right thing though. I take back what I said, RU-vid did the perfect move and made a huge impact to the RU-vid users. RU-vid devs are absolute chads! Merry Christmas tho
I cannot express enough how positively weird it feels to see one of my favorite big RU-vid creators react to a video from a guy I've subbed since around 400 subs that is about a game I've played during my childhood that I believed would never reach any form of recognition outside its humble fanbase. Truly a fever dream I welcome with open arms.
It’s hilarious how that guy wanted Charlie to watch the extra hour and a half of the video at 3am, he really must have thought Charlie doesn’t need sleep
@@dat_berserk_gamer445__7 if I were to bet it’s probably more accurate to the book than Peter Jackson’s version since this game was based off the really old animated movies
Lol I remember buying Lego movie game for my PS2, the cover says Lego movie game but the content inside is this game instead. But the game is still fun tho.
Her: He's probably cheating on me Him with the bois: *teary eyed, runny nosed and red faced watching Shockster carry the torch onward to territories previously uncharted and finally break the 12 min barrier*
Charlie’s passion for things he didn’t care about before now really makes me excited for these topics. I’m now invested in speed-running games I’ve never played
I love how the actual community could've been a total of like 6 dudes, and the yet the video paints it as one of the greatest and most speedran games ever. You could do this for almost any game with as many as 6 or so runners and it'd get recommended to me to watch with upwards of 500k views
I played this game on Gamecube. I remember it fondly as a fun little adventure game with a lot of heart. There are a variety of challenges from platforming to puzzles, the soundtrack absolutely slaps, and I enjoyed the cartoony art style.
Wow, sucks to see all the spam bots in your replies. I'll be sure to report them all. Also, that's really sweet! Something about old video games being a part of our childhoods.... it brings so much nostalgia.
It's weird how I have that same memory implemented in me.. But just a different game, a Lego game of you will and I'd play it while my parents were asleep
Anyone else with no speedrun skills whatsoever just like taking in the lore of these? Especially when you got creators like these putting so much effort in making these videos
This guy kinda bugs me, he's like dollar store Summoning Salt. He cues up very similar music at the same time, the cadence of his speech is a poor attempt to replicate Salt. Even the stuff like, "And his name... was Kazooie." *Cue music*
Hey man, not sure you’ll see this but was having an awful start to my day, and this turned around the morning, thanks for all that you do for us Charlie, Merry Christmas big dawg!
I watched that video a couple of weeks ago. It seems like Summoning Salt has inspired his own genre of RU-vid videos and I'm loving it. Also Merry Christmas Charlie and audience. Hope you're having a lovely day.
Finally caught a Simpleflips stream. He went back in time to 2011 and shmooved on all the Hobbit runners, and then fell asleep during the last level. What an entertainer he is.
That 2 1/2 hour hobbit speedrun video is honestly super good. It popped up in my recommended when it came out and it got me back into watching speedruns.
Wow...seeing this game, just the cover, brought back SO many memories..I don’t have a whole lot of wholesome childhood moments, and this was one of the purest. My brother being a LoTR fan, found this at a store and we were OBSESSED in the early 2000s. Such good memories. All brought back by one of the most nostalgic guys on YT, so thanks Charlie, for bringing up something even more so. This was incredible. ❤️ Edit:I left a comment already, but didn’t see it. I HAD to make sure my feelings were expressed so my apologies if it’s a double comment.
I've been hoping Charlie would stumble upon this masterpiece. It's one of the most captivating videos I've ever seen, and the creator absolutely deserves the credit.
Dude is doing what he loves just for the sake of his love for it. I respect that. Makes a 2 and a half hour documentary on something he must have known would get 700 views and 5 updoots. Seems like he has a knack for documentary making too. I think this guy might be a genius but he's just too niche to ever be successful with it.
I suspect autism- and I don't mean that in a mean way bc I also have ASD lmao. You get attracted to the weirdest shit and develop an incredibly deep understanding of it bc you're engaging with it like 12 hours a day with few breaks. Continuous obsessive engagement, even if it's only for a few weeks, let's you get deeper into something than if you were just consistently putting in less time per 'session' over months, because of how it primes your brain. Jenny Nicholson is a good example of autistic obsession too, except her channel is very successful; Her content has a compelling split of more mainstream interests and 'script doctoring', as well as a good splash of her more niche interests and unheard of picks. But the way we understand things is compelling because we care so deeply and sincerely about it. This comment got long, I'm autistic, sorry.
Thank you Charlie for making this video. So many talented speed runners who spend years mastering a game whose records barely break over 1k views on some of the biggest accomplishments in gaming.
You don't know how happy this makes me. The Hobbit (2003) was one of my favourite childhood games but no one ever seemed to know about it. Had no idea there was speedruns for the game. What an unexpected video.
I literally played this game religiously on my dads ps2 growing up. I’d get to the stealthy part with the troll caves and get to scared and quit. I beat it for the first time only a couple months ago. Cool to see such a funky part of my childhood has a fanbase
Somehow this man actually had me sit and watch a hobbit speed run documentary and be fully interested the whole time despite not even liking speedruns this is good storytelling
I remember playing this and I remember Charlie watching and I was like oh my god no way there's like this dedicated of a community this is such a beautiful thing
I wasn't looking at the video and just had Charlie talking as background noise while I was getting dressed to go to work and when I listened to "THAT WAS PROGRAMED BY STEVE JOBS HIMSEEEEELF" I lost it LMAO
the fact that someone made a documentary on a gamecube game that's just as long as the actual lord of the ring movies, and its so fucking good, now that's talent. You love to see it
If Charlie wants to learn about a speed running machine taking every major record in an incredibly difficult speed game, he should learn about Super Metroid and Zoast. The man is the fucking terminator.
this is honestly amazing that obscure games can still hold a fanbase, and because of this the game is kept alive and not lost to time like so many others. Some games aren’t even lucky to have footage left of them únù
But Irule did actually change his username over time... Irule now went by... Mkarma. This was literally the most elaborate and surprising plot twist I'v ever experienced in my life.
I cant believe one of my favorite games on the PS2 is getting this attention. It feels like validation cuz i've been singing The Hobbit's praises for so long now. Thanks for bringing attention to it, Charlie!
25:57 Never before would I have thought to hear Kubbi in a speedrun video. Charlie seems to like the album too! It was used and popularized in recent game "SNKRX", the most recent autobattler before Super Auto Pets.
I played The Hobbit when I was younger, got to a point where I had 3 coloured pots or something and I thoguht you had to pick them up in the order you need to place them and I didn't realise you could select which pot to place
if this is one of the most interesting video you’ve ever seen charlie then you clearly haven’t watched the instant classic “Super Donkey Kong Shake” directed by videogamedunkey, it is truly a cinematic masterpiece
your comment doesnt make sense because he said 'one of the most' not 'the most' so its possible that he's seen more videos which are just as if not more interesting
that was the biggest plot twist I have ever encountered, iRule was MKarma, you said you spoiled it but I don't think I was listening at that point so it was quite the shockwave for me
You see, Penguinz scares me. He’s a guy who I never want to mess with. His roasts, are legendary. He can tear literally anyone to pieces. He’s like the Utree of the gaming world.
I played this game as a kid and I was convinced it was the hardest game ever made I think I gave up shortly after the whirl pool part. I loved it though might install it for the nostalgia lol
As a guy who not only played this game as a kid, but still still has the working copy to this day, thank you for bringing attention to this gem of a game.
I loved watching my dad play this game when I was younger, this game was a big part of me getting into video games. its awesome to see critical watch this video and show it some recognition to an underrated game.
I have fond memories of me and my mother playing this game as a child and we had so much fun! She passed away of cancer in 2009. I am now 26 this brings back so many great times ❤️
I also stumbled upon this speedrun video and thought it was one of the best gaming videos on RU-vid. The plot twist, the "drama", the cool skips. Its pretty sic
