do the smell test once your cup if done, you'll find different notes, start to get the caramel butterscotch smell to it. some vanilla and agave settle down.
Bought this on a recommendation.WOW! Somehow i got a bottle with a hole in it! It was almosr embarrassing how quickly this disappeared, but just almost.
I agree with Steve Short’s comments - there’s nothing wrong with Autoclaves if cooked correctly. The pinas are steamed similar to Hornos, and there are some fantastic tequilas made in Autoclaves (try any of the brands Steve mentions - I own most of them, and it doesn’t get any better than the now difficult to find Calle 23 Criollo). Adan - I noticed you placed your nose at the lower part of the Glencairn - that’s where all the alcohol settles since it’s heavier than air. Put your nose at the top of the rim of the tilted glass - not the bottom. You’ll get more aromas. El Tequileno is a fantastic brand. I just toured their distillery.
Those mics sound nice on your voices but....high noise floor is noticeable even on a smartphone speaker... Strange to me listened on my studio speakers was unwatchable too. Not a bad video just audio wise the noise level was so high constant noise from both mics when not talking was brutal
Don't get hung up on autoclaves. Some of the best tequilas are cooked in autoclaves but most are low pressure. This one (El Tequileno) is cooked at high pressure. It's still fantastic. Tears of Llorona, Calle 23 Criollo, Fuenteseca, Cazcanes, ArteNOM1146, and Don Pilar are all autoclave and are all great tequilas. I'd love to see you guys do a blind tasting with some additive free vs additive celebrity brands. Do blancos since they are all supposed to be additive free by CRT regulations (HA-HA). I have a feeling Adan would like some of those since he doesn't seem to really like tequila.
I am very fond of El Tequileno's cheaper resposado, which in Canada costs $37 to $40 dollars. The one you are tasting here is beyond my budget. The cheaper reposado is my favourite tequila. The prices here are such that I can't try that many brands but I love the taste of cooked agave so much that I have lost interest in most other spirits. I have recently tried some mezcal that I actually like better than El Tequileno resposado, MonteLobos and Sombra. They are a bit pricey for me but I get a bottle of one of them every month. The complexity of the flavours in both of those is very endearing. They are different but I love them both. I'm a sipper and don't usually care much for cocktails and mixed drinks most of the time. I could almost weep when I hear the prices for good tequila in America. The price difference here is usually above the currency exchange rates. I have been reading and watching a lot of videos on the history of mezcal and tequila and about the details of how different ones are actually made. The more I learn the more I like it. I have some fear that some of the issues you guys are talking about here will mean my great grand kids might never taste real tequila as it currently exists. A surprising number of people I have spoken with don't care, at all, about the additives and the extra sugar. They feel the same way about mixto tequila. I wish I had discovered tequila earlier in life.
First off, thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. This is one brand that we really want to explore so hopefully we will have the other expressions on the show at some point. On the extended version of teremena we dive a little into how celebrity Tequilas and mass production brands are really hurting the good brands of tequila like this one. It sucks that many people will never know how good a tequila can get, and hopefully the prices don't continue to rise. Tequila is awesome, but it's definitely the most expensive spirit we've been reviewing.
@spiritscollective I was just gonna search and see if you made one about El jimador and if it's additive free cause that's important to me. I seen el tequileno yesterday I would get the regular reposado not the more expensive one but idk cause I don't like sweet
autoclave... produces cheap tequila that has to be aged, colored, artifical flavors, and all that, because they took low quality Agave to make a low quality spirit.
