OPR Problems no one seems to talk about
Today we got somthing speical for you.
We are going to look at some of the short comings of this system and what those look like to folks using the free rules.
We should never love somthing so much that we can no longer see the flaws.
True love is acepting the flaws and loving despite of them

Right now we are running an OPR GD:FF Gang Wars campaign at a local nerd bar. I have been creating a monthly special scenario while players can get in another two games off screen - not needing us present. (Gang Wars is OPR's Notcromunda game.) This month it was the Train Job - the gangs trying to loot a Dwarf Guilds land train. The dwarf train was an NPC - not with any of the gangs, but because we had an extra player we allowed a Jackals player to help defend the train. No real winners in that scenario - it was all about the loot. Though the forst gang that grabbed the loot ended up the only one without loot at the end. Turns out that the gangs weren't above backstabbing each other. I highly recommend looking at the monthly missions from the Patreon, and creating your own. Gets rid of the samey feel.

Wow! That is a fantastic approach. The flexibility is such a boon for this system. I don’t have access to a nerd bar regularly at the moment but it’s cool to see they are surviving. GD:FF is what I played with my SO and got her to enjoy ttg. I think you have something pretty awesome here, you should be proud.

the advanced rules definitely aren't necessary for the game, I've been playing for years, patron the whole time, and i have never used the optional rules except comp restrictions and sometimes mission cards, but even then i mostly go regular objectives. i read through them, nothing i saw interested me at all, most would in fact detract from my experience, particularly strategems and extra action types. As for the problem of them making models specifically for their game, how is that even a problem? elite is generally fine, the problem is actually hybrid units, you pay a lot of points for having both a good ranged and a good melee weapon, but you can only use 1 of them in an activation, as a knight bros player i encounter this a lot and it is definitely a problem, but not one easily solved. AFS being a subscription is kind of necessary, it requires a constant server upkeep and losing your ability to update isn't that bad, also opr partner creators presumably get special access to afs.

That’s awesome. I think the command points appeal to me as someone who has horrendous dice rolling averages. The problem. I ran into was each game became the same scramble for the 4 objectives. The mission cards add a lot but being separate from the beginner book I was not even aware of them at first. There is definitely something to be said for hybrid units having a tough time. The problem with models for there game that ties back into the identity of OPR beyond being model agnostic. They are and should be more than just the “model agnostic company” they can’t become a bigger business just being the company that is model agnostic. But they are doing a great job with UV and all their stuff can still be proxies as needed. This company can and I believe will become a bigger more impactful company as it works on these problems. Also they actually talked about a Bunch of these issues in their chat yesterday.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the basic scenario and rules. Coming from rule systems where scenarios and rules are way too complicated, I enjoy the simplicity and don't find it repetitive. But to each their own. I do believe the system needs work, but the base rules are great! I think OPR's general approach is to provide a basic sandbox where players can add custom rules on top as they see fit. I'm working on a competitive rule set as an addition. The lore is sparse, but developing. It's difficult to compare OPR against GW, who has 40+ years of great writing on its side. Still, the criticism is valid. Honestly, I basically play OPR in the GW universe.

Thank you for the reply! We LOVE OPR. We played 3-8th and 1 game of 9th ed Warhammer 40k. So when i got my hands on this i was blown away. We played 4 games of Skirmish with my significant other and kid the first weekend i got all these rules printed and an understanding of how they worked. They loved it and didn't think it was repetitive but after a few more games i noticed the flow of each game was very similar. The cards help a TON with this but there is not enough here for people who love this kind of strategic thinking and want to really sink there teeth into it (and not everyone is like that, and that is awesome and something i love about the community of war games). I wanted to talk about the weakness of this system because I love this system and I want this system to be THE system for war gaming. Tonight we will drop another video on this topic, as we made this I found what i think is the big missing piece. We need a HERO. what is your favorite system Grim Dark, Fantasy? Skirmish or full game? have you tried the space ship game they just revamped?

@@DorknessInc. I like bigger games, so a simplified rule set makes those games more manageable. I think OPR at 2000 isn’t great, but once you get to 3000 to 6000 it’s much more enjoyable. I’d suggest trying larger battles. I appreciate the video! I also think that OPR needs work, but it’s getting there. 🙂
