Remember in the live action when Koby and Luffy were talking on how to sneak in the Navy base and Luffy said "What if I grab into a bird?" I think it was a reference to the giant bird scene! 🤣
Ya something about the line "Guns aren't for threatening people" while lucky roux just blows the guys head off hits different. Really sells Shanks character in that he's easy going but once you cross the line he doesn't play around
Another character trait shown early on in this episode that the Netflix series failed to mention. Nami is actually *very* skilled at reading weather patterns, making her indispensable as a navigator on these seas! Great reaction!
I was really sad they cut Shanks' "Put your life on the line" line from the Live Action. It feels like such an foundational part of his ethos, the way he lives his life, and such an important part of how Luffy lives his life.
It is an interesting view. Guns are used for various purposes: for threatening, for self-defence when its simple purpose is to kill people. It is not a shield or a toy, it is a tool that you use when you are willing to put yours and others life on the line.
100% agreed. Also the exchange of “these guys fight dirty!” “Dirty? Cut the crap. You think we’re saints? You’re looking at pirates.” I think it’s one of the coolest lines in the whole series. Admittedly, it doesn’t fit the ‘not like other pirates’ thing that Netflix was going for, but it’s a shame.
In the live action, after the bandit breaks the bottle, Shanks says "Makino, you got a mop?". It's really easy to miss, but it's in there. Similiar to how Helmeppo's name is only used once in the live action in a really easy to miss way.
the way you went ‘why is that just right there? why is it just on the table??? SHANKS!!!!!!’ is so funny to me because that’s nearly exactly what my friend and i shouted watching this episode
A line I really like and dont see many people pay much attention to is when the bandit gets shot and the rest of the bandits acuse shanks of fighting "dirty" and Shanks is just like "Bro, we ARE pirates what did you expect" and that is a reminder to us the audience, that while he is good, he is still a pirate and is not above that kind of actions and violence when the time asks for it
Another reason why I love that line so much is because you expect the crew to say something like “Us, dirty? Cut the crap. You kidnapped a child!” But no, it’s none of that 😂 they make it clear that they don’t care what you think, regardless. They’re pirates.
The mayor actually WAS in the live action! It was VERY blink-and-you'll-miss-it, so no shade to you. I think he was just in the background in a group shot, very easy to miss. This actually happened a LOT in the LA where they had to cut subplots but would include those characters in the background as a nod to the fans that they hadn't just overlooked or forgotten it. So going forward you will get "introduced" to characters you didn't see in LA, but many of whom were actually there. Might make for fun re-watching of that sometime in the future. His name's Woop Slap (yes, really) so if you want to see, just search that with "live action" and you should see a screenshot.
You mentioned the live action even having kid luffys clothes. All the clothing you saw in the live action are clothes The character had on in the manga, like cover and little illustrations :)
a really neat difference to note is shanks himself. In live action while willing to fight people he's also portrayed far kinder (even empahsing toluffy a man 'needs to be good') and far more patient with Luffy and cocnerned for his well being, that being a major reason why he's like "no luffy you can't join us". Here, he's far cheekier, casually teasing luffy and making fun of him, but the andit fight highlights far more that he's a PIRATE, he's not a crusading hero. He's gonna KILL people if they cross him. He's also a little more silly and foolish in the anime too, between him freaking out when luffy ate the devil fruit and freaking out when he realises Luffy got kidnapped again.
25:22 about the mayor, we kinda did see him in the flashback with shanks for few moments, it's just that he didn't get any dialogue~ I'm glad you are liking it so far! I'm honestly kinda waiting for you to crumble down out of anticipation and watch 2 or 3 episodes in a sitting😂 Cause all the reactors I've seen so far do that at some point~❤
Actually, they did say Makino's name in passing, and showed the mayor for like a second 😂 Also, get some moderators for your comments section, people out here spoiling things :(
The jolly roger usually has to do with the captain. If you notice thiers has 3 red stripes on the skull like the 3 scars on shanks face amd red for the color of his hair
"I'm saying those aren't for threatening people" And they inmediately blow the guy's head. No mercy Sends chills down my spine every time, Shanks has always been badass
Thanks for the reaction!!! The differences and similarities between the Live Action and anime are always fun to notice! Next is Buggy! Can't wait for that!
I lost it when you freaked out about the devil fruit just there on the table 😂 that "SHANKS!!" scream 🤣🤣🤣 I enjoy your reaction a lot. Glad to know that people are drawn into One Piece after the live action!
Yeah, that’s one of the major things that the Netflix series kinda improved upon by way of having the devil fruit properly stowed away and the chest containing it closed. Because looking back at this scene (especially now knowing more about it), it’s crazy to think that Shanks and the rest of the Red-haired pirates would just have that there out in the open, like that would be the equivalent of me just casually having fricking Excalibur in an umbrella stand.
going forward you'll notice a lot of difference in events and characters presented but a lot of those were referenced in the Live Action like "we did not forget, we just had a budget and deadline to respect"
I thought it was a mistake that they had Shanks on the boat in the LA. It made newcomers assume that he had a Devil Fruit power. Having him swimming in the water while doing what he did makes people wonder early on “oh wait a minute… maybe there’s more to this world than just Devil Fruits?”
There are some narratively very important episodes that will be closer and some iconic moments that'll be directly 1 to 1, but you'll see some episodes that weren't even adapted into the live-action, a lot of such episodes actually.
Just remember...it's about another 400-500 episodes before you learn about the other abilities in this world. Most of that is covered in the 2nd half of one piece.
It’s so awesome watching someone getting into One Piece and enjoying it so much! Love your reactions Omni and the analysis you do at the end is really good and on point everytime. This videos have become the reason why I look forward for Thursdays to come.
The Luffy flashback in the Live Action is actually what starts chapter 1 of the manga, with Luffy stabbing himself to prove his courage, the rest is just what happens in this episode. There's a really good line in the LA with Shanks: "It's the lesson behind the scar" and with Shanks losing an arm, it shows Luffy the lesson he was talking about. Some other backstories are placed different, but it's mostly 1:1 with the manga.
Oda was an assistant on Rurouni Kenshin. Oro? Also just like Kenshin Luffy is silly until Someone messes with his friends The Hitokiri(PirateKing) Comes out.
The only reason why Yasopp never (had a chance) to visit Usopp is because his life just belong on the seas. Doesn't mean he didn't care tho, but we see that he love being a pirate and love being on the sea. You'll see how proud his son to his dad once we got to syrup village. We didn't got to see it on LA.
@@weeboo960 Ben is Shanks first crewmate, Oda confirms it already in SBS. But if you take the anime as reference, the scene on episode 0 is kind of contradicting your point, because Shanks approached Yasopp on a small boat (maybe to not alert the village of pirates), You can see Yasopp seeing a huge ship, which strangely looks like a pirate ship behind Shanks. Which alluding that Shanks already establish a good amount of crew before meeting Yasopp, so he definitely not the first to get recruit.
I am not sure why they decided to go about the pistol moment the way they did in LA. Here Shanks made a point that when you threaten with a gun, you should be ready to kill or die. And Roo totally had his back. While in LA he threatens first, which meakes him look more aggressive than in anime but when Roo shoots the guy Shanks for some inexplicable reason looks surprised. Which goes against his initial point of being ready to kill when you threaten but also that he wasn't aware what his crewmember is going to do. And I dont even understand why they did it this way.
I am happy you are enjoy the anime. Its just trailer OPLA make some people dont like Shank before OPLA realease . Shank in live action and anime/manga is really amazing character. Peter Gadiot plays a goofy side and idol figure for Luffy at the start of the series really well.
Ok, there's some more complicated explanation to what happened between Shanks and the Sea King way down the line, but I'm convinced, Oda hadn't thought of that at the time of drawing that scene. It's just meant as a game recognizes game thing. As in Shanks is so badass, he can scare that thing off.
You totally get points in my book for knowing YYH!! He might've reminded you of Sensui or Shigure from YYH maybe? Just by looks/hair? Also totally enjoying that you're enjoying the OP anime!
Hello :) Just a small fyi… The scene where Luffy is making plans in the bar, Koby is with him, one of his ideas is to catch a ride on a bird to get into the marine base. That was a reference to Luffy and his bird as you just saw in this and the end of the last episode.
I thought the gun scene was much more profound here, like Shanks felt much more "cut from a different wood than these East Blue guys". Also, he didnt look surpised when big guy shot him. Idk why they added that. Removes the full trust he has in his crew, which is mirrored in Luffys crew later.
LOL! Hi Onm1Media! About the titles... If you notice, all animes episodes, mangás chapters, and even some labels works, the titles in Japan usually are a synopsis of what the chapter/episode/label contains. Other thing, there's a Special Episode of East Blue launched between episodes 802 and 803 that shows these Shanks/Luffy part just like the manga, and the others strawhat too. So its included that part when Luffy stabs hinself and also he defeating that monster who ate Shanks arm (it is a kind of monster who lives in that coast).
Just to clarify one thing, Luffy did stab his face in the manga, Netflix did not make that up. It was the Anime that took that out, so here he just gets a scar for no reason.
The treasure that Nami stole from Alvida somehow disappeared. No she didn't have it converted because she has no pockets or room for the converted treasure.
Idk if anyone told you this, but this week to week, one episode at a time format you got going is counterintuitive to actually getting thru this amine!! You gotta do 3-4 episodes per video and 2-3 times a week otherwise you’ll be here forever
4:47 nah lmao, Yassop is just a deadbeat, he went back to his village after joining Shank's crew, got Ussopps mom pregnant, had a son, and then left again. Man is a menace
It's rather not even the animators knew Shanks used some kind of power to repel the sea beast, and therefore they didn't put in any effect. The later reanimated versions of this episode had the effect added in.
Would you believe that that Seaking is one of the smaller fish in the one piece world😂 The whole bird scenario was actually mentioned in the first episode of the live action
i hope you enjoy the goofiness of early one piece. As a 10+ year fan of one piece, there is so much to this story, but one of the reasons a lot of fans fell for one piece is the goofiness of the straw hats
You kind of got spoiled when it comes to Shanks' "power" with the sea beast. It actually was *supposed* to feel like an indimidation check, rather than be associated with some kind of tangible ability. I actually like the subtlety when it comes to the anime, because you come back after being caught up and you're like OOOOHHHHHHH, thats what that was.
Through ALL the anime show and movies, Usopp and Yasopp never meet (so far). Accept one time in the movie Red (which JUST came out this year), and they still really don't meet. They see through each other's eyes and connect mentality, while fighting the same monster in different dimensions. (Still waiting for that meeting between Luffy and Shanks also.)
Btw you should find a one piece map lots of people have made maps of the one piece world and it makes it a lot easier to follow where the straw hats are at all times.
I like you going in after the episode and doing a title reveal/reaction. I think it will be fun later on, I can see you saying, “Why would they put that in the title??!”
This is the episode i was waiting for. Super interesting to watch someone who experienced the LA first, your discussion is more thoughtful than most other channels too. I'm excited to follow your one piece journey, it truly is an epic adventure
I love watching your reviews, I just hope you finish the entire thing though and catch up to 1079, its worth it.Some say the episodes are intimidating there's just too many ,but boy I rewatched 3 times including filler arcs.I hate it when I forget something, names, events, the sequence, etc. I will sure to watch all your reviews, keep it coming.I love it when one appreciates this show, this one is the GOAT, ive watched way too many other anime as well and this one is always Top 1.
I love the scene where the bandit was threatening Shanks! It's not a big deal but it was missing in the live action. Lucky Roux just straight shot the bandit in the live action! 😂
Oh yeah the green guys name is Lucky Roux and the other guy that beat up a bunch of bandits was Ben Beckman. This are not really a spoiler Oda just answered/revealed it in an Q&A in the manga and because those characters didn't have a proper introduction.
I hope that you read this.... Shanks could have come out unscathed from that sea monster easily but he CHOSE to SACRIFICE his hand. This is him saying,I'm betting everything on you Luffy or passing the tourch(I'm sure those who have caught up with the latest episodes can tell this, keeping in mind that Shanks already knew luffy's background and HIS DREAM). There will be many GREAT PIRATES and a CERTAIN MARINE who will also sacrifice themselves to pass the torch to the younger generation.
I'll tell you why they still did the shirt on young Luffy because One piece is like a race in a olympics and Shanks is likely the torch bearer and his passing the torch to Luffy who is wearing the anchor shirt. 😊😊😊
I agree. The way Shanks scared away the sea king in the anime was done better imo. It can easily be looked at as a throwaway scene that he literally just scared him away and it’s an anime so let’s just go with it. The live action clearly made it known okay something is up here
The Manga and Anime version are sooo much different compared to the live action but still, all I wanted was they stay true to the characters and as close as possible to the main plot and it was!
Without spoilering anything, live action knew what Oda would have been shaped some details in the future, things that animators weren't aware of at that time. So the OPLA adaption Is much accurate, we coud Say. For sure that's an error in one of the Shank's lines which he used here and not in the LA.. Mayor of Fusha Village was cast and you can see home in the Background of a scene. I Guess they ended to cut othere scenes with him. It's funny to see i starti g tò wondering about certain details as well.. possibile you should ask yourself many other side-questions about what happened and why... But it's good for you to Enjoy the whole ride. Have fun :D
One thing that is easy to overlook is that this was made in 1999, so every single frame was hand drawn by somebody, so copy pasting, no ctrl+z, layers were literally sheets on transfer paper piled on top of each other. The amount of effort for a "simple" animation back in the days was stupid
all i will tell you is that this weird ability of shanks will get brought up again in episode 316 (and no i don't think thats a spoiler because i didn't say what the ability is)
Oh yeah another thing..anime didn't include Luffy stabbing his cheek like the manga had, and LiveAction did 1:1. Rules of anime I assume back then, can't have a little kid stabbing in an anime kids also watch. Keep your eye out on how the anime does Visceral brutality differently, while LiveAction did it like Manga.
