The animation here is so well done it's insane. Not flashy with tons of effects, but it shows so well just how much faster, more powerful and more BRUTAL Luffy just got by showing you Blueno's perspective. The way he tries to follow Luffy but only sees the steam clouds moving and then gets absolutely DESTROYED by an attack from off-frame, then gets hit with so many brutal follow-ups so fast... what a scene
@@Jayu_Bro that's true, my brother. However, animation nowadays are awesome but too flashy and too bright. Example, advanced COC of Luffy vs Kaido. Though that is understandable. Because that kind of animation are pretty much the standard across all animes.
This is one of my most favorite power intros ever. It’s so satisfying seeing Luffy just absolutely dominate somebody who seemed so strong at the time, so vicious and one-sided. I even love the aggressive sound his attacks make in this instance
I loved how friggin awesome it was that they presented us THAT and then left us hanging when Luffy was to use yet another Gear at the end, lmao, it was textbook hype!
The entire Water 7 & Enis' Lobby arcs are just so amazing. There was not a single disappointing fight for me honestly. Sanji's fight against the wolf guy was definitely fun to watch especially after he showed his new Diable Jambe technique
Leechi impaled Luffy in Water 7 the same way Akainu impaled Ace yet Luffy did not die. Not even a scratch on him... that was disappointing. The Straw Hat crew should have died in Water 7.
To me gear 2 has a more groundbreaking effect than the next gears because gear 2 marks the moment one piece raised itself to the next level of awesome fights
Yet in many of the movies that are non-canon. Luffy uses gear 3d to end the fight, now he uses gear 4th but before that he'd finish a powerful enemy with a Elephant Gun" or a Grizzly Magnum"
@@n0_1d3a6 i think it means that the fights are much simpler. Contrast to present fights there are haki and ryuo, additionally devil fruits users are common now. Which is not bad, because to progress the story. But its kind of overwhelming for me at least with all the different types of powers.
@@uwumation1359 But its Always funny when you see Buggy later. Like he was legit the first "fruit" threat we ever saw. Everyone was pretty "normal" in terms of super natural skills, except for Mihawk. People forget that Mihawk happened like... very very very early. Like i think nami wasn't even apart of the squad yet early and I think she missed it cause she wasn't there if i recall. See everyone had said "new world this new world that" prior to this moment but then the ACTUAL NEW WORLD GOD HIMSELF pulled up right in front of zoro casual asf and zoro shits himself cause he knows he wants this smoke! Zoro was gapped by a friggen butter knife. a toy sword... to a massive degree. Zoro got to taste early that absolute raw power that you are helpless against. That fight was simple and quick but it had a huge impact on how i viewed the world the characters were living in.
The sheer brutality of this moveset can't be understated. You can really feel how much Blueno got his shit rocked. The way he was holding on and immediately gave up and passed out as soon as he heard there was another goddamn gear says it all.
I remember back in the day, me and my friends in high school were so hyped in this episode. Now we all have our families and still watching one piece. Man, we've come a long way.
@@projectblade82that truly is the most impressive part. I only have 2 remaining HS buddies who I watched OP with. Everyone else seemingly got kidnapped by a celestial dragon.
This is one of the best fights for me in one piece in terms of a character's power growth(currently on ep340), even stronger than Zoro vs Mr. 1, because I was legitimately caught off guard with the speed of the first Jet Pistol
@@CoCking_Sanji66 Around ep 660, despite how long Dressrosa seems, it's so interesting and packed with so much happening, this feels so fast-paced compared to even Fish-Man Island.
Teymur Azimov good for u man, u caught up quite quick! Yea unfortunately the first 2-3 arcs of the new world (or 2 year time skip) seem quite stale (return to sabiody, fishman island and punk hazard) but if u think dressrosa is good wait until u watch whole cake and wano!
You have to love how Luffy kind of underestimated his own power here. He knew Gear 2 was strong, but he didn't think he'd wipe Blueno out so quickly that he didn't even get to use Gear 3
I absolutely love the sounds used for Luffy's moves. One Piece's main appeal to me, over its other Big Three contemporaries, is the use of stuff like weirder, sometimes more cartoony sounds that stand out and don't feel traditionally "Cool" but they become cool through how they're used in the show. Every "PEW" of Luffy throwing a punch and that satisfying snap when his arm retracts... Dare I say, iconic.
I would say "cool" describes well. Not just the soundeffects, even some moves and stuff are named kinda cool. "Jet..." before his moves, "Red Hawk", "White Out" and "Buster Call". And a technique where quakes ripple through the air? DBZ with its colored beams and balls can't compete with this.
I love this fluid and clear animation. Now a days we usually get these insanely high budget scene with the camera moving around like crazy. I dont mind that type of animation but I dont think it fits with the one piece style. Miss when animation was more fluid and clear like this
As a kid, I always read Shonen Manga books such has Naruto, Dragon ball and Yu-Gi-Oh. At the end of the cover, I always see characters that were from the highlighted Shonen Jump series. Every time I get to the end, I see Luffy's silly face with a big grin or with his cheeks full of meat. I always thought "What is so special about this guy? He has a really silly face; I can't take him seriously." Few days later, I stumbled across this fight, and this is what got me into One Piece. Even after 10 years, this fight is just as good as I remembered.
Pretty touching story but not sure how looking at this scene would seem attractive to a person who hasnt seen any episode before it and dosent know how strong his enemy was and how hard luffy struggled until then
This is so good because back then, the fights were still mostly progressive and believable in scale to the current power level they contend with. The fights also have a feel? I would say to them that it is now lost, if not less apparent in each fight. Perhaps it's in the cinematic pacing change that caused this. Considering the medium, so much more could've been improved, but as it is now (gear 5 animated), the art is almost gone. The irony in that episode is that for something supposedly cartoony in portrayal, they completely missed the mark with trying to emulate realistic camera shaking, which only made things look like a bad camera shot rather than an anime. Edit: us > is , realistic fights > progressive believable fights
I’m watching through the series with my wife and it saddens me that I don’t get to see the attack names animated anymore. They always used to be so cool to watch.
Every hit in this beatdown feels BRUTAL. The sound design, snappyness of the movements, quick change in shots and Blueno just getting SLAPPED AROUND. GOD this was an amazing showcase of what gear 2 can do!!
I miss the One Piece fan subs SO MUCH. It added so much flavor when watching the series many years ago. One Piece just isn't the same without the stretching effect of the subtitles when Luffy attacks.
Idk why but I miss when people put genuine effort into the small stuff like subtitles and the intros to dubs. Stretchy subtitles for Luffy's special moves or actually dubbed versions of OPs like We Are have more love put into them and more series should do stuff like that
This was right around the time when I first got into One Piece, I remember I was 16 and all of this was happening in the anime. The hype was unreal. Even though post-timeskip the quality of One Piece hasn't been the same, it still will always be great because we had arcs and moments like this
Bro OP was such a laid back anime and I love how the slowly progressed with the power level. It was so satisfying watching all of them achieve more it didn’t seem forced at all. It felt like they really went through some shit to get to where they’re at now
man.. This is for real the most BRUTAL BEAT DOWN in the whole show.. From how owned Luffy got in Water 7 to then him showing us his new power.. Man this is my favorite fight in the show
nobody talks about this, but can you just tell how strong luffy got, the way he says "JET PISTOLA" is just, POWERFUL. 2006-2008 voice acting on one piece was amazing
I ve always wanted luffy to keep punching his enemies.. like with Enel.. he was only punching him once each time.. but inside i was always like luffy smash the goddamn guy smash him over and over.. but now with blueno.. he really smashes him non stop and thats amazing..
It feels like Luffy went harder here than on most villains. Dude hit him with like 10 attacks in under a minute and kept appearing from the side just to hit him harder.
it bothers me that it never happened again. Out of all the fights, i enjoyed this one the most. For starters, it happened in 1 episode... not in 35 episodes. LoL And it was AMAZING.
Would definitely agree with you. And the kind of sad thing is..... The animation has nothing to do with that. Gear 5th has been portrayed perfectly, but I overall think Gear 2 was a very good idea, and the way the anime portrayed it made it insanely cool
Was thinking the same thing when I saw that combo, luffy damn near murdered him with that last missile while holding his horns, looking like an ugly curb stomping
This is one of the best edited fight videos on youtube. Straight and to the point, no flashbacks, and all the cuts feel natural. It really shows how quickly these fights would be over without all the padding and filler.
This is such a great scene and introduction of gear 2, no wasted scenes, no fluff animation that's just glowing colors and flower leaves or shit, just the feeling and impact of the sheer speed his attained that dwarves Blueno's ability to even perceive it.
one of the most iconic fights in the entire show the beginning of luffys true identity style the gear techniques i still remember how obsessed i when i first saw this the good old pistol sound effect is gold aswell
Hands down the best fight in one piece! Excellent pacing, great animation, and it nicely depicted how fast Luffy actually was. This, and the climax of katakuri fight, straight up action, no useless dialogues, no stretches, no shoutings!!!
Unlike the one piece we have now, every fight ends with one fight or they dont allow the fight to progress because they cut to another scene. Land of wano fights are all trash.
This whole fight is top 10 fights in op easily. But probably my favorite 2 moments of this are the first jet pistol and the brutal carnage of luffy using bluenos horns to missile onto him so damn hard. Damage is viceral and brutal and i love every second of this. Anime version of this fight rly out did itself compared to manga.
The animation here is so much more impactful compared to the over the top effects, clashes on the animation during the Wano arc. Adding lasers and nukes to every attack, with the opponent just brushing it off, just doesnt make it feel serious, impactful. In this video you really feel the punches.
that is a big problem with most shonen anime, at least for me, for example, I always feel sad seeing kid Sasuke vs orochimaru, or kid Naruto vs Kid Sasuke in the valley and then seeing the later fights of shippuden, we went from cool ninja fights with hand to hand combat and strategies to who has the eye with more lines or who has the pet with more tails, same with one piece, like Dressrosa, only good fight was luffy vs doffy, and that wasn't as good as some of the fights pre timeskip.
The detail of this fight if you watch it again: 0:23 based on the dust smoke movement, Luffy is already on his right side, since the smoke goes right. 0:32, the dust smoke goes up, meaning he jumped, the next attack is from above. 0:39 the dust smoke doesn't move anywhere, meaning he jumped. Most likely jumped to blueno's back, then when blueno turns left, luffy quickly jumped to the right (blind spot) and hit him from there.
I’ll be completely honest. I love OP, and not that G5 animations were bad, it was rather groundbreaking. But in terms of execution along with how broken it was and how Luffy completely dominated his enemy G2 takes the cake.
This is truly when Luffy’s devil fruit power got me interested. Oda took this to another level and I love it’s inspired by DBZ Goku kaioken form. This whole arc was fun!
Still the best fight in One Piece. After all these new arcs, this hasn't been surpassed. It's fast, raw, interesting as hell. It's an incredible power up. Gear 5 on the manga was interesting too, maybe it'll surpass this finally.
God, this fight is just a perfect example of coming back stronger. Luffy learned from past mistakes, learned from his enemy and was able to go toe-to-toe with someone he and Sanji struggled against before just on that, using the strongest of his moves to break through a defensive move he couldn't before. Then Gear Second hits. His speed increases so much he makes a sonic boom with a punch, every move crushes Bleuno so fast he can't even react to it, and luffy demolishes what he claimed was his strongest defense. Bleuno going from non-plussed and trying to hide his concern that luffy is keeping up with him to utter shock and fear that he's being beaten so effortlessly just makes it all the better.
Just started one piece a few months ago, and saw this episode today. I already knew about this ability because of some spoilers but still it was overwhelming to watch.
I felt that jet bazooka in my soul, the way he just instantly went from 100 to 0 in an instant while blueno gets knocked back a few meters, *chefs kiss* Also the jet missile, that emitted the black air force energy of gear 2 the best
i remember the hype the first time im watching this episode... the goosebump.... the screaming.... what a joy... wish i can erase my memory and watch from first episode again
i just wanna say blueno a real boy for this. How you get yo ass beat for like 5 minutes straight then start talm bout im finna eat this man whole final attack. I know yall heard it in his voice “Tekkai GOU!!!🦍” 1:36
These where the best types of fights, unlike now everything isnt organic, fights end with one punch, or one attack. Back in the days the fights were so fluid and werent so flashy, it was raw.
@@mayhulk7514 ikr like Blueno wanted to keep fighting after that tremendous ass-whooping, but the moment Luffy said that he had ANOTHER Gear, each and every one of Blueno's cells in his body just went "Nah bruh, we're done, peace out" and had him faint XD.
respect to Blueno, to get your ass beat for like 2 mins straight and still come out at the end with the thought "I'll tank his strongest attack" takes a lot of guts
I regret Gear 2 is not used anymore il the manga. By far the best "transformation" in shonen, pure and simple visually and making sense when you compare regular Luffy's attacks to high speed "jet gomu gomu"
