I think it's also that people should understand they have their job, their colleagues, their friends, their family, their hobbies, and when they get a dog, that dog ONLY has them - and if you're not ready to sacrifice your time for that dog - don't get one.

The thing that some people forget about Aussie's energy level is that they are also high in mental energy. If you do a lot of mental exercises (puzzles, training, agility, etc) with them they will require less physical exercise because they're already exhausted mentally. We personally never give her food in a bowl, only in puzzles and toys or through training. She spends a lot of her time "earning" her kibble and that wears her out. Best of all she loves it this way. She doesn't like it when I put her food in a bowl, she prefers I hide it different places in, around and under her toys so she has to go searching for them. She loves it!

my wife made (for each dog) a 1 by 1 (sort of VERY high) long pile carpet of strings and cloth ... and we hide the dry dog food in it so the dog feeding time takes them 10-15 min ;) instead of a bowl that takes them 1m or less.... or we use 4 different puzzels each with dogfood in em all..... and we got small ball pits (0.5-1m) i n which we hide food as well... keeps em busy and fullfilled... 4th way we do it is same as you ... hide food ;) (bit a problem with 2 dogs because our male is like a whirlwind and gets everywhere before our female ;) )

During the pandemic, I had to teach my Aussie to run on the treadmill. He now gets on by himself and will happily run for an hour while my husband works out. (In better whether, he is used to running 4 trail miles with my husband a few times a week.) We know it's time he runs when he has the crazy look.

@@mydaydreamers8874 It was a process with lots of treats and a leash. Start with baby steps with it being off. Train the dog to stand and sit while off for a while. The youtube video I watched has you leash your dog and limited an escape route. So, with the leash being held on the handles, I stood over him on the treads on the side and turned it on 1. Standing over/close made him comforted and the leash kept him face forward. He got lots of treats very often. It was a process that took a bit. The sound of the motor and feeling of the ground moving is scary for them. But take your time. Watch a few videos to find the one that works best. Good luck and make it fun!

I see that look everyday. Sometimes it's going to the soccer field and playing fetch until she lays down and can't run anymore, playing with the lazer, tug-o-war, or going on a drive. Best decision of my entire life was to get an Australian Shepherd. I got Ruby from a support line because I had trouble after my dad passed away. I grew up raising Australian Shepherds, they are the most loyal, loving dogs and they would protect us at any cost. I just got a puppy and yes they have a lot of energy but it also helps to get some of us out of the house. I love my dog and don't regret buying her.
@77Cardinal

I had a work situation that allowed me to have my aussie in my office. I crate trained her for the office and would take her outside several times each day plus at lunch for "bio breaks". This worked and after a while she didn't need the crate. The main thing was that as long as she was with me she was fine. If I left her home alone she would leave the yard and walk 6 or 7 blocks to where my youngest was in Kindergarten and play with the children until the school called me. (not kidding). She later became a farm dog when we moved out of the city and was quite good with sheep. She didn't have to drive them. She would walk ahead and they would follow her. Her name was Annie.

After 15 years with a Aussie you learn to love that look. My best friend crossed the Rainbow bridge 8 weeks ago and my new best friend is now in his forever home. I never had such a punch in the gut as losing my special needs buddy. We now have a 3 year old rescue that is the love of our life. He has a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out but that is why we are here, Don't think that you can do what is best when there are more qualified people to help you help your buddy be the best that he can be. Our trainer is fantastic and has helped to open our eyes that there is always better way. We are still learning.

You have a strong pulse point on popular videos. Over a year ago, I made a video that went ‘viral’ for my channel. It was titled ‘Before You Get A Samoyed.’ The thumbnail, was simple, with a Samoyed puppy, licking the camera, against black background. Wording ‘Before You Buy,’ was in yellow, along the left side of the thumb. I now have 250,000 views on that video. It’s been my best performer. I wish I could hit the metrics that you do, video after video. Your channel is really good. I like how it’s a day in the life concept and you publish so many. You’re going to go far. Love your thumbnails and videos. Keep up the awesome work!

What a great Video, that made me smile Big Time! I never had a full Aussie but Mugs was half Aussie and half Blue Heeler, This was a dog who was going to rule the world! I could write a book about her. But one time someone broke into out back yard and she disappeared, my wife and I searched everywhere, every pound and shelter within a 100 miles nothing. After about three and a half weeks we came home from shopping and who was sitting on the front porch but the Mugger! Looked a little worse for wear but wow!

My toy Aussie is a dream come true! Exactly the dog I’ve always wanted. We walk/run 4-8 miles a day, play frisbee a dozen times a day, and chase each other around the house constantly. She’s so outgoing, loves strangers, loses her mind with excitement around other animals, including skunks on our walks :-0. She’s not afraid of anything but respectful around bigger dogs. She’s super smart and loves chores like helping me take the trash out and get the mail. So happy I got her.

I just got one 9 months ago for my apartment and ima college student. I remember getting her and how hard it was but I’m a dog person, my gf was a cat girl. I’d spend late nights after coming home from my night time job and go to sleep with her in her crate all crammed so she learned to be potty trained right away. That pup was so difficult in the beginning, I ended up taking her to a place they train dogs and told me I could never get her off leash, so I took it upon myself never paid a dime, and that’s what we did. She’s so intelligent and we have a bond that man I see Tik toks of dogs dying and my childhood dog died in middle school, but just the thought without her even being a year old. Just everything we’ve been through from training to just having fun, the amount of trust and love we’ve built. The fact I can throw a ball and she brings it right back. It’ll be a devastating day to say the least. If you get one, you’re gonna get frustrated, mad, irritated, it ALL HAPPENS. But take those minutes to get to know ur dog, best choice I’ve ever made. I’d give her a bowl of food before I can feed mysef

We drove up to Tennessee this weekend to get another Aussie, he's a blue merle. We got him to be a family pet and a playmate for our other Aussie Jasper (we've had him for 5 years). Dodge hasn't been fixed so he likes to mark his territory around the house, especially on corners. He was an outside dog for most of his life (he's 4) and now he's transitioning to be an inside dog, and he's handling very well. They're my favorite breed, but yeah if someone's looking for a much calmer dog then an aussie ain't gonna be a good fit because ours are very active and love to play and run around.

My Aussie is 2 and a half months old and I’m always getting compliments on how chill and laid back he is. All my dogs are super laid back and very obedient and I have no clue why. I guess it’s my training methods. Which is why I did not understand everyone saying an Aussie would be too high energy for me. But I just handle the look with cuddles. My Aussie is very affectionate and likes to know what I’m doing and just sit around just to be near me.

We have had our Aussie Mykonos for just under 2 years now. We got him when he was a tiny pup and had him professionally trained. He loves fetch, running, jumping, and most recently, tending to our baby. As long as these dogs are 100% part of your family, there will be no shortages of love and good times. Sure there are trying times, but Aussie's need to be a part of the family. If you aren't going to allow them to be a big part in your dynamic then I would think likewise. For example, Myko slept in his crate up until we had our baby on Valentines Day. He then slept in our room because we knew he would want to help us and be apart of taking care of Theodore during the night. He now is a bigger part of our family, loves/cares for Theo, and is happier than ever. Not to mention, when they are a big part of your family, it gives them purpose and a job. These are working dogs, so as long as they have a job (fetch, agility, taking care of children), they'll always be stimulated. They're great family dogs, but one must put in effort to ensure they are always a part of the family.

Yes, my wife and I have seen that look and a few others from our 5 month old AS puppy. We are learning from our pup that we both have things we get to do for our AS pup and if we deviate from those things we'll get a few other carefully chosen looks from her. Her name is Patchez (Patches) and we don't call that because of the number of patches she has on her coat but because if we miss interpret her looks, our favorite sweater, scarf, blanket, or cat ends up in patches.

I got a german shorthaired pointer. I read up on them, I had plans in place for the excercise. But by a year old he mellowed, then at 2. Hes 4 now and he is a lazy house dog with moments of excitability. He adapted to my limitations, and routine.

You nailed the subject of Aussies. They are irresistible. As Liam Neesome, if he was an Aussie, would say “I have a very particular set of skills… skills that make me a nightmare for people who can’t handle Aussies…”

Aussie are definitely active. I have taught mine to mark my disc golf discs during play to help me not lose discs. My wife had been teaching her agility; jumps, weaves, tunnels, etc. And we both having been riding bikes with her harness attached to the special device that hooks her up on the side of the bike. Between all off that and fetch. She is pretty satisfied. We love the bike because you are cheating on the bike but it wears her out quick. She is physically more capable that us. We have taught her how to play hide and seek in the house. She is a brilliant dog who would love and take everywhere we go.

I totally see in my Aussie the look, the bark , the best food all above mentioned. She is a rescue and my life changed for better with her. Yes, I do play a lot with and even had to fence my sizable backyard , so she would have place to run. She is very smart, loyal, did not destroy a thing in a house for all this years with me (7 years at my place). She keeps me busy. As for me, she is the best dog. Yep, the guilt trip is there: I come home from running errands and the first thing I do- I play with her. That look on her pretty face makes me feel guilty. I do take her to a good, cage free doggy care when I know my day will be long. God forbid to leave her alone. She would get sad. Thank you for your video. I am so glad you love your doggies. Good dogs.

We have a 6 month old and a 13 month old, and we have no time to ourselves. You would think they would entertain each other, but no, it is a family affair for everything. But these are our 2nd and 3rd of this breed, so we bought our tickets, we knew what we were getting into. And would do it again.

We’re on our 5th Aussie, they all have the laser eyes. Love them so much but they’re getting too big for us, our last was a frisbee dog, Cooper the newest, is only 1 and being a COVID puppy hasn’t had puppy classes and he’s a stubborn one. We’ll get there, he’s basically in the velociraptor stage of development

EVERY Morning sometime between 5am and 8 am my Aussie gets a 3 mile off leash run which is about 10 miles for her and around 3 ish we get The Look which of course means another run. We knew what we were getting into and we love it and her. Aussies need exercise like they need air. This gives us a happy well balanced dog. A 15 min walk around the park just won’t cut it. Our Chihuahua is thrilled with a short walk around the park! 🐕🐕🐕

It's never enough for them they just build a tolerance...And it kills you when they think it's time but you have to leave lol which also devastates them...I take mine for runs around my condo but there is literally a dog at every corner and the only thing my dog loves more than exercise is associating with dogs/people lol so he gets very distracted

Daycare has been a God send, I also try to keep him mentally stimulated, games and nose work. Looking to start adgeliaty classes. Rainy days stink, so I invested in the puppod, boomer loves it, it keeps him busy. It's an interactive game where the dog has to listen for a sound and touch the pod and a food dispenser rewards him. The smarter they get the harder the games are. We wized though level one, level 2 is way harder

Cut a lemon in half and have it in your hand. When your Aussie pup gets too crazy with biting have the lemon on hand and let your pup bite the lemon half. Use the command, " No Bite" and then "Easy". My Aussie pup never needed this to help with biting, but my friends pup did.

Well my australian shepherd/border collie passed on last July. She was 15 years old. I got her as a senior dog and i have to tell you. I don't know if it was just her or her age because she was really mellow and the sweetest dog ever. I only had to exercise her for a 30 minute walk everyday at the most. So when your aussie gets older i promise you it will mellow out. I got my dog when she was 11 years old and for the last 4 years she has been wonderful and never gave me the look. At least you have that to look forward to. Trish
