Swamp N Stomp is a channel or vlog, whatever you want to call it, dedicated to helping the hunting community grow, specifically in Florida. Studies show that the majority of modern hunters had family members who raised them as hunters, and a large portion of non-hunters want to hunt but don't know where to start. By documenting our hunting adventures, making instructional or tutorial videos, and really anything-hunting-related videos, we hope to help bridge that gap by providing practical information for beginner and experienced hunters on how to become a better and more ethical hunter. Everything i see about one sticking makes me a little nervous lol i think ill stick to the way its supposed to be used. Just orderd a set of jx3 sticks but ill be using a cruzr xc saddle instead of the hybrid. I already pack in heavy that thing just seems to be too much for me. Plus i use a StealthRig to pack in my bow so i dont carry anything else on my back

I was almost sold on that unit until I watched you climb the tree it looked really laborious I’m not sure how comfortable having all that attached to your back would be compared to just a saddle, Definitely looks comfortable once you’re up there though

Please do not take next as a discouraging and Enjoy hunting. ;-) however, why do not use repel rope on the way up? it is much safer (especially at the end of the hunt). your step/platform system makes it hard (dangerous) because it catches your rope on the "wings". Also, you Need 3 rope steps with your climbing style. feel free to message me re this. I moved to FL some time ago and using as guidoWeb (ancestor of your saddle) as regular saddles (including made myself) in mobile mode. You can make rope ladder yourself and tune it for your climbing style..

I feel a piece of paracord attached to the stick to your belt is probably a good idea incase that step slips out of your grip while transitioning. That can make for a bad day if it falls. Maybe even a retractable gear tether.

Lol I have one. It stays in the shed. One stick is definitely not the most efficient way to climb by any means. Personally I prefer SRT and use one stick when I’m climbing a palm and or going into a spot at night and am not able to get a throw ball over a branch quietly. Cool demo. Crazy saddle though. I saddle hunt to pack smaller and lighter. I don't see the point in that type of saddle when you could just use a climbing stand or a hang on stand. To each their own not everyone's hunting style is the same.
@SwampNStomp
@SwampNStomp 2 года назад
It’s a lot lighter than a climber and it still gives you maneuverability of a saddle but extra comfort. It’s good for al day sits. It is definitely bulkier than your typical saddle. It has its place in the toolbox though. Thanks for watching -Mark
@tray22
@tray22 2 года назад
@@SwampNStomp My openshot weighs around 15lbs and that saddle alone is listed as weighing almost 14lbs. You would have to have less than a 1lb stick to come in at a weight less than the openshot sd. If you were to one stick climb and just hang a stand it would be lighter than the saddle alone at around 10 - 11 lbs. I have sat in my saddle all day without issues but by far the most comfortable all-day sit was in a goliath summit climber. That thing was like sitting in a recliner, but it weighted around 23lbs total. I walk through a lot of tight brush and it looks like that hybrid saddle would get caught on everything.
@SwampNStomp
@SwampNStomp 2 года назад
Tom the JX3 isn’t comparable to a saddle and or a climber or hang on it’s in it’s own league. The JX3 allows you ti sit in the skinniest of trees with the up most comfort. You have to look at us as more of a system then just a saddle or climber. The pack system meshes flawlessly with it. It’s basically a frame pack that allows you to hunt from an elevated position. -Danny
@tray22
@tray22 2 года назад
@@SwampNStomp It is definitely an interesting setup bit it seems wide and a bit bulky. I only started into saddle hunting a few years ago and have the xop platform right now and I 1 stick with helium sticks and an aider. It is light and I have found that setup works best for smaller trees. Basketball size and smaller. When I know the trees are going to be straight and limbless I go with the summit openshot sd. When I plan on hunting the same spot a few times or during gun season I will pack in a light weight hang on. For public land nothing is better than the saddle and a single stick for weight and flexibility. Never know if someone else will be in my spots.

I like How cautious you were, almost a little scared, I would be too my first few times 😅. Is there a safety rope on your stick? I notice you totally unhooked it from the tree every time you moved it. Would kinda suck if you dropped it huh?
@SwampNStomp
@SwampNStomp 2 года назад
I’m actually very comfortable in the trees well above the hight that I was climbing for this video but I am definitely always cautious. Things can go side ways real quick. Even if you don’t fall all the way down a short fall can ruin a hunting trip. You could add a tether between your self and the stick if you’d like. I personally don’t but it’s not a bad idea. In the event that you drop the stick you could just setup ur rope and repel down or use your lineman’s belt as a second tether and work your way back down. -Danny
@doctorweld22
@doctorweld22 Год назад
If you use a little more rope, you could work with both ends of it and set anchors above each other. Eliminating the need to slide the tether up. Standing on a stick, with a lot of slack in your system and sliding it up the tree with your fingers behind it is an extremely dangerous thing to do.

I’m confused…why the hell wouldn’t you just use a climbing tree stand. The one I use is 10 lbs, $200, and works 10 times faster, 20 times easier. Put it around the tree, sit down, tie your safety rope, and climb on up. Can climb a tree that high in 30 seconds. The weight of your ass on the seat is what makes it dig into the tree. It’s so simple. Is there a law in Florida that doesn’t allow climbing stands?
@SwampNStomp
@SwampNStomp 2 года назад
Hi Mike! I’ve actually hunted from a climber most of my life. Since I switched to using saddles I’ve not picked my climber back up. Saddles allow you to access spots that you wouldn’t be able to in a climber. You can get into virtually any tree that will hold your weight. Also you can go as light as 10lbs in some cases even less. It’s not for everyone. But most ppl that try it don’t go back to Climbers. Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe! -Danny
