Gotta say I really wish there’s a video like this but going over detachments for every army, like you did with the Space Marines in the beginning. Like a strong Penitent Host list, Rad Zone Cohort, etc.
Most armies afaik still have only one Detachment, don't they? I'm not sure, since I really dislike 10th edition and went back to playing 3.5 with my friends.
@@4nc3st0r You're 100% on it, dude. They either only have one, or if they have a codex, they have _at best_ one that's just about worth playing. The game is a quagmire at the minutes, do I don't blame you for going back to past editions. So many of us have done the same.
@ChaoticMartian ... the better the "combined-arms" options, the less people will become inclined to stray from Their God and The Emperor... and into the arms and corruption of the Tau Codex. Some fences should never be crossed... no-matter how-strong the itch.
@auspextactics Hey man, I just wanna say that I appreciate that you seem to keep putting Imperial Fists images up where you can. I don't know if it's intentional or am I reading too much into it(probably the latter) but to me it's like you never forgot about them whereas in 40k GW probably would rather pretend they don't exist because that's one more thing to fix for them. As a Fists player who've more or less struggled to find the motivation to play 2 consecutive editions in a row, I'd just like to let you know my gratitude seeing them appear in your thumbnails and mentioned in the slides. The vigil stands unyielding.
@@wanderer2205 ahahaha I appreciate you trying to help but a part of why Im in this hobby at all is to play with the physical models I painted and customized myself. I tried ttsim before but I just couldn't get I to it because it wasn't my own minis.
... all faith will be restored the moment Rogal re-emerges in his shiny-new Super-Dreadnought-Carapace. The Great Convergence of Chapters is near... Brother.
Love seeing a battlesuit heavy Tau list performing well. Though I do worry that the Tau archetypes discourage mixing and matching a bit too much. I guess the primary issue is making units worth taking across different archetypes without making them auto include across every archetype.
That Orks list is my favorite type of Orks list, just loaded up on big angry Orks in trukks that are going to slam into you and beat the shit out of whatever happens to be closest, love it.
Any of the somewhat experienced players able to theory craft this: Kayvaan Shrike - Phobos Lt- 10 Man Reiver Squad w/ Carbines. It seems like it could be good for a drop in - shoot 22 times with chance of lethal hits (for the precision shots) and able to scoot in for an easier charge if the leader is taken out or scoot back and hope they don't get in melee for a redeploy
CSM list is EXACTLY what I want to see out of competitive lists. No more than 2 of a datasheet PLUS a wide range of models that spans a reasonable amount of the codex. Only thing really missing was a Daemon Engine or Helbrute, but with the nerfs to Forgefriend, it isn't in fashion atm. Orks, on the other hand (my other main faction) was really dissappointing... Yeah, spam 3+ of the best units you have available will likely get you there, but it still makes me sad. No Dredds or specialty weapons squads ANYWHERE...
Not only that, but 6 bosses in a list is insane. Anybody who puts that down on the board should immediately lose as their army falls apart from infighting 😂
Why wouldn't you have heard that? They've been smashing tournaments all edition and even after numerous heavy nerfs they still win and are still popular
As a Grey Knight player I hate having to bring 3 Librarians and 3+ Dreadknights, but we don't have any other choice. It's not creativity it's just a necessity. No other way to fight tanks.
True, it’s ’the meta’ but at the same time running a brother-captain with a 10 brick of terminator give them sustained hits on top of lethal hits when charging-best way to force tanks to save at -2. Obviously dread knights do better but I like have a decent amount of bodies on board and alt options in case my librarians and dreadkights get focused down
@isaiahryan9123 That's a huge gamble. You need to make a 9" charge and you're still wounding on 6's. That's if they haven't screened you out. Even if you make all of that happen, you only deal ~8 wounds to a T12 2+ Sv model with that combo (with rerolls and everything). Which isn't bad, don't get me wrong, but the chance of getting the charge off is small and unlikely to be open to begin with That, and, things like forge fiends exist. They can remove 5 Terminators on average every shooting phase. It's not worth it. If you're playing casually and you both don't have optimized lists it's a fun combo, but not what removes heavy tanks, and definitely not the best option. 2 Librarians have a shot at dealing that damage to a tank without the charge for like half the points.
Something you’ll notice about all of those core space marine lists and some of the chapter specific ones is that they nearly all run scout squads. I cannot recommend them enough. They have contributed more points to my games in this addition than any other unit. Need a cheap mid board unit early game? Scouts. Need someone in reserve to help with secondaries? Scouts. Cheap blocking unit to gum up 1st turn charges? Scouts. Action on objective? I can go on and on lol
@@kwombok I definitely can’t argue with that. I know they’re currently 65 points while they used to maybe be 55? I could see them going up but also, marines don’t have the highest win rate by any means, so for that reason it’s probably not necessary at the moment.
Man, CSM is in such a dire state. I remember saying that their codex was so good when it launched! It was more fun when we had the temporary free rules. I love how the best list is a 5th place, and uses iconic Chaos Space Marine _'checks notes'_ Cypher, followed by Fabius Bile, who _used to have his own retinue and fluffy rules_ in editions past. I'm going back to 8th for a bit, and then I'm gonna give 5th a go. My buddies are itching to play _Warhammer 40K,_ not whatever knock-off of chess this game is currently.
Videos like this are cool, and I do enjoy looking at lists on Goonhammer just to see what people are winning with, but it kinda bothers me that winning lists are rarely thematic or fun. A lot of them are just a mess of good-stuff rather than a cohesive fighting force. I know it doesn’t matter, and it’s not going to stop me from making lists that I enjoy and playing the game in a way that’s fun for me, but I do wish that it were more common for lists that looked like proper armies to win.
Totally agree, and it's why as a Drukhari player I'm always absolutely delighted that our "biggest" competitive player, Skari, nearly always plays really fun mixed lists that utilise the majority of our (admittedly small) unit roster. Makes his videos much more entertaining to watch. The one on this video is much less interesting by comparison, effective as it was... not to mention difficult and expensive to put together between out of production units and the pricy Talos/Cronos kit compared to how cheap they are to field points wise! It's interesting to see what happens at these tournaments but I don't think I'd like to play or play against these sorts of armies.
Those Nemesis Dreadknights are so good, lol. Strong base stats and advance + charge makes for a nasty combo. I'm going to run three on my next game to try it out.
Not really. The kit price is obscene, but if Knights is your main and you're not buying launch boxes or models for that army you didn't plan on having, but somehow ended up with 1000pts of, and you're not playing multiple systems and buying season boxes, etc, then after buying your few kits that gives you an initial knights list, you'd probably have money, over time, to buy the occasional atropos. I'm the opposite and did all of those, so I don't have funds for 2 atropos, but those were the choices I made.
@d-rex7043 that was the point. I play imperial knights and own many dominus, questoris, and cerastus knights but comparatively the atrapos is much more expensive due to it still being forgeworld.
The divergent chapters with independent or supplemental codexes should have their own points costs for their units. It make sense that if you put a bunch of you resources into creating gold abs armour or a repairing a fuck tone of terminators that you ignore the regular stuff and it costs more to field.
the anvil seige force is also, pretty much the budget champion list aswell. as most the stuff in it you can get dirt cheep, like the dread at the min is like 20quid on ebay, i would pick up more, but i cba painting more, i want to collect some other things before getting more of them
I notice Imperial fist is in alot of thumbnails for Auspex Tactics vidoes, maybe I just get recommended the ones that do show Imperial fist but I appriciate the love and attention you give them. Imperial fist might seem bland and boring for alot of people but I find them just as cool as the others if you understand them correctly. I pray Rogal Dorn comes back for at least 12th edition, GW can update imperial fists, black templars (if it needs one) and Crimson fists that each have a sizable fanbase.
Everyone keeps saying "oh big knights are bad you just want armiger spam" even though Kyle and others have repeatedly won perfect games with that same list multiple times and it is consistently the best performing knight list.
I'm an imperial fists player so I enjoyed seeing them here. But the anvil siege force? it's got 4 captains, it used to be the rule you could only field 3 of a particular unit right?
@@SteveForteGMRthat wouldn't be relevant though, you can run 3 captains in specific armours and any named characters on top. There's a blood angels "list" with like 25 captains
@jacket2848 I know. The OP questioned why it has 4 Captains, when it only has 3 with the keyword. Technically, you can have 3 of each Captain data sheets plus 1 of each of the epic hero ones. Not sure why you'd want to, but you can.
On that topic do you think a space wolves working with mostly heavy armoured units like aggresors is possible? Thinking something to represent the Iron wolves, would it work? Or its not that well supported?
I hate how none of the factions use battle line units in their armies. Who thinks that there should be a rule to at least have 1 battle line squad in your army. You don’t have to be like me, who wants the large portion of their army to be battle line for aesthetic purposes
Imperial fists, Guard, Sisters, AdMech, Custodes, Grey Knights, Knights, Black Templars, Space wolves, CSM, TSons, Death Guard, World Eaters, Chaos Knights, Eldar, Tyranids, GSC, Votann, and Orks all have battleline in the lists.
Astorath leading 10 Death Company with Jump Packs (4 Plasma Pistols, 3 Power Fists & 2 Eviscerators) Lemartes leading 10 Death Company with Jump Packs (4 Plasma Pistols, 3 Power Fists & 2 Eviscerators) 10 Death Company with Jump Packs (4 Plasma Pistols, 3 Power Fists & 2 Eviscerators) 3 × 10 Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs (3 Plasma Pistols & Power Fist) 5 Scouts (Sniper Rifle & Missile Launcher) 2 Death Company Dreadnoughts (Blood Talons, Icarus Ironhail Heavy Stubber & Twin Multimelta) Gladiator Lancer (Fragstorm Grenade Launcher, Missile Pod & Ironhail Heavy Stubber)
I just want to clarify something, during the Grey Knights section it's mentioned that the Draigo "Very big charge from Deep Strike if you budget a CP for it". Why do you need the CP, I thought you could Charge from Deep Strike anyway, yes you're just over 9" away so with Draigo's own abiity you would need a 6+ on 2d6. so whats the CP for????
For a reroll. To absolutely guarantee it. Yes, 6+ is good odds, but it’s definitely not automatic, and failing a charge can swing the outcome of a game by itself. Rerolling a failed charge into a success is BY FAR the greatest value you can get out of a single CP in the game currently.
@auspextactics How can we run the Ultramarine Vanguard list if we can’t play Cato Sicarius in 10th edition? Doesn’t he not have a model or rules? Also what would be a good substitute because I don’t own a Cato mini? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Every single astra militarum list I see everywhere has a Lord Solar in it and I understand why, but I really wish people tried to advertise more variety for my boys... 7:49
I would argue Deathguard list hasnt fought any tanks really if the opponent would bring 1 or 2 tanks which is relatively normal they would get mauled ^^
Useful video, thanks! Do you know what would be awesome? The most competitive list you can make without spending too much money. There are videos that share the strongest lists (often very expensive) or the cheapest list but none that look to balance the two. For example, a Tyranid vanguard onslaught list is A LOT cheaper than others because genestealers are good value you don’t need to spam as many exocrines/maleceptors that represent horrific points per pound value.
15:24 GW nerf the librarian by upibg it's point cost, but buff the brother termi by lower the cost so player can spam again the librarian 😂 c'est le serpent qui se mord la queue !
I put the eldar list into the WH app and its coming in at 2060 points. Or am I doing it wrong? Edit: also i think the scorpions would in the falcons, not the banshees. But please correct me.
@@christerprestberg3973 You sir, are 10,000% correct. The Champion can take a Plasma gun. The problem with move to streamline weapon profiles is that the weapon is modeled as a plasma PISTOL on the Champion. The REAL question now becomes is how long have I been using the pistol instead of the gun? LORDY
Not at all a criticism, I couldn’t possibly care less, but the video sponsor is begging for a visit from 20th Century/Disney’s lawyers with that business name 😂
Consider starting Astra Militarum but I could not justify buying those ugly Catachan miniatures. Wouls prefer a list with something pretty like Death Korps, Kasrkin or at least Cadians.
Oh, look, the Guard list is still just a variant of David Gaylard’s list from February of this year, just with some Aquillons instead of a Basilisk. Its an improvement, but an incredibly minor one. Bullgyrns should have doubled in price. 12 plus 6 Ogyrn is horrific.
@ How about Mech Guard, with tanks backing up Infantry in transports? How about tank spam, with 12 Leman Russ tanks playing basically Imperial Knights on Tracks? Pure Infantry is actually a very popular playstyle in the Guard Community, and there was a time not so long ago when it was meta. How about literally any of the half dozen Guard playstyles that are integral to the identity of the faction and not 12 God Damned Bullgyrn? Imagine if the Iron Warriors Meta was 3 Blood thirsters, if Zyangors were spammed in Thousand Sons lists with no Rubric Marines, or if Dark Angels Death Wing lists was 30 scouts and 0 Terminators!
Look. I get that theres like 20 Ad Mech players on the planet but could you please find something OTHER than Skitarii Hunter Cohort everytime one of these lists comes out? I get it's our best detachment Im tired of seeing it. Im not trying to see another list with a PPD ratio of barely 1.49. Ill even take a Rad Zone at this point. Anything other than SHC. Heck, you did 3 vanilla SM lists.
I will say- In anything other than competitive, these lists would not last. For example- the orks. The orks would be flattened by any amount of firepower. After those vehicles are done with it's easy pickings
What are you on about 😂 how does playing a non competitive game suddenly stop these lists working? Every time I've played against a casual player it has been horrific for them, they just get steamrolled
