My plants are not putting on new growth and I have had them for a month or two. Is this normal? One is turnin yellow and another's leaves dried up despite plenty of water. Your plants are enormous! In that case maybe the two I have left are going to be enough if they make it.

Artichokes grow better in the cooler weather, so it could be just the season. For example, my plants are all done for the season, so they are all dying off and the branches are falling over because the harvest is done. I would recommend leaving your plants in the ground and it is likely next year the plants should come back!

@@AudreysLittleFarm They're currently in pots and haven't been transplanted in the ground yet. On the plant that had both leaves fall off should the Rizome still put out more leaves later if I plant it in the ground or does it need some leaves to phosynthsize enough to make new ones?

Thank you,for asking this question? I grew artichokes a couple or so years ago, but didn't get a harvest. We're in zone 4a-4b, though I've recently heard we are now in zone 5. So, the zone difference makes the huge plants understandable. I did not know artichoke are perrenials. Thank you, for that info. So like aspargus, they need two or three years to establish well, and they probably don't grow to well in our area.

How did you keep the frost from killing the plants?

It will vary based on zones. In a warmer zone artichokes are a perennial so the frost doesn’t kill the plants. In the colder zones sometimes people have to grow them as an annual. So at the end of our season I chop down my plants after they are done producing and then they will grow back the following spring.
