Fun fact, currently the only iPad that uses the 4:3 aspect ratio is the 12.9" iPad Pro and the iPad 9. The other models have switched to an A4 (close to 7:5) ratio.
@@FuzmintYT12.9 was always 4:3, they kept the screen the same size with the 2018 revamp, whereas the 11” had the screen expanded to match the casing, and the mini was like the 11” i think. ALL ipads with a home button are 4:3 tho
Just a quick note: $150 is not anywhere near what the Magic Keyboard is ($300)… So an all in package is under $750, vs over $1,000 for a 64gb iPad Air, Magic Keyboard, and pencil, or over $1,200 with iPad Pro.
The "Annular Touch Sensor" means it's all the way around the stylo (look at "Annular Ring Nails"), that way you don't have to hold it with a specific "side" up.
@@HxHStudios it is fine. Problem is they are marking it as “ram” when it isn’t. A normal user might confuse it with actual ram when it is just swap. Lot of devices use swap. Imagine windows laptops advertising 48GB ram (16GB ram and 32GB swap/page file)
Selection and verity is nice: but you labeled names specifically. implying negative connotation to both companies. When I’m reality, you don’t know what you are talking about. My iPad Air provides me the right professional tolls for my creative work. And Samsung offers lovely display for my movies. Why are you so negative? How about you say this grumpy pants. “I like having a verity of products to choose from”. See how I didn’t imply any particular company was bad.
I think the aspect ratio is to match A-sized paper. A-sized paper has a 1:sqrt(2) aspect ratio, 7:5 approximates that (root 2 divided by 1 = 1.414... , 7/5 = 1.4).
While this was a good overview of the tablet, I would've loved to see some comparisons with the Galaxy tab line as well, which is its main competitor in the Android space.
Something that's under-reported on reviews is how consistently amazing speakers are on Oneplus devices, especially since the first phones that supported stereo. I guess it's still true with their first tablet
How recently are we talking? My last OnePlus was the 6, and that thing's speaker was garbage. And I knew it would be when I bought it, because every device they'd released prior to that also had crappy speakers - they even had a reputation for it amongst reviewers. I guess they've improved since then?
@@SirVer51 I have and I am still using OnePlus 7T which has good speakers, that was one of my main reasons why I choose to get it, and it uses a separate second top stereo speaker instead of the earpiece, and I'm coming from HTC One as my previous phone. In my opinion, OnePlus 7T is the best (and reasonably priced) phone that OnePlus made just before Carl Pei left the company. The next phones they made were Overpriced and with bad buggy software. But now they are trying to make a comeback again.
wasn’t it like mono till the 6 or so? also yes but apple mobile devices always have exceptional speakers like almost better than bluetooth speakers at some point
Pretty sure its just the apple logo. Any software on an ipad has a better alternative on windows. Surface tablets are the best, you get a touch screen and a real unrestricted operating system.
@@MegaLokopo surface go 3 is $400 but it doesn't have great performance and a worse stylus than an apple pencil. Sure, there are many better software alternatives on windows, but those ain't gonna run well on the cheapest surface. Meanwhile ipad 9s are available at only $329 ($429 plus the pencil) and they run procreate and other productivity apps pretty well
@@ryanignites5923when it comes to the tablet space yeah, but on desktop apple is nothing anymore (except video editing) I’ve watched as the studio I work at went from apple, to windows for animation then modeling and rigging and lastly texturing. Weight painters still are ~50% apple but most of them want to move to faster Riggs. Professional artists don’t use apple anymore, I watch them be almost completely phased out over the last 5 years.
7:5 aspect ratio is genius. Still easy to hold as 4:3 but with a little more widescreen-edness/black bar buster. Better than an impossible to hold 16:9 or 16:10 mess.
@@jbc17c The "hard to hold" comment was addressing the large moment that you create with a longer device when you hold it in portrait. The taller the device, the more "torque" you put on the hand that is holding it since there is weight that extends further away from the. Makes it more unwieldily compared to a device that is more square.
As Riley was showing the tablet, I looked at it and thought that it looked small compared to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Then I remembered the S8 Ultra's screen is almost 15 inches big.
I remember the first time I saw the 12" inch iPad. I thought it was ridiculously big, couldn't even function as a tablet. Saw it on two different occasions; when a friend first bought one and once on a long train ride (on that second occasion, I couldn't believe it was an actual Apple product, it was so big) When I failed to buy the Tab S8 Ultra (completely failed to get one at a price I could afford, even with deals) I went and bought a 12 inch iPad Pro. Been using that a year now, and the size no longer registers as oversized to me, the whole time still checking periodically for an S8 Ultra deal to come along. My friends still do a double take on seeing it though I imagine if I had the Ultra this whole time, 12 inches on the largest iPad would seem quite small Lol
@@kenbee1957 i use the s8 plus tablet and it's just nice for me, but with the ultra, it looks super small with mine but I think i'm fine with that, easier to carry around when i'm on the go.
It is. They're "rebranding" it because storage this days is much faster then hdd back in the day. Also they say that it comes from storage, so. Ho harm no foul. And it doesn't wear out storage to any noticeable level.
He was always my favorite NCIX presenter and I was a little bummed when they were shutting down, until I heard LTT was picking him up. Easily one of my favorites in the LTT cast.
8:13 they did, Samsung GALAXY Tab2 10.1" did exactly that. its the same for alot of samsung tablets (but they're usually quite close together like an iphone 6-type style)
From 2014 to 2022, they would evolve in different directions. The iPad started multiplying Pad by i to reduce how many mathematical symbols are shown, while OnePlus adds Pad to One to get "plus" as a word that conveys positive emotion 😂
This aspect ratio and 11.6 size is ideal for reading textbook PDFs on the go. If my 12.4 samsung fails soon, I will go for this aspect ratio. good move by OnePlus to offer a unique tablet.
Most of the time "RAM Plus" actually doesn't use the storage but uses zRAM (compressing the RAM). At least that's the case for Samsung phones. Their RAM plus only increases zRAM but there is no storage swap to be found
You're welcome Riley Did LTT check out the Yoga Tab 11 and 13? My so uses it for drawing (with the Lenovo stylus) and as a second display and it is pretty fantastic.
This is the tablet for someone who only likes Android and wants a tablet like an iPad, lol :D It looks really nice... Thanks for the great, funny review Riley!!!
Okay, so usually I'd point out that Apple got a lot of its features from Android and that they essentially swap features... However, that was definitely as close to Apple's font as possible and that case was clearly supposed to look like the Apple equivalent while not actually being able to do the same functions.
The whole point of this being a good android tablet is that most people who like a simple UI or "apple feel" will be easy to switch to it, and all the "non-apple" people still get all the benefits of its being android. A tablet that is familiar to both sides
I make this simple: the buttom side normally has the USB port and is opposite of the camera. If there is one on the left/right side and the camera is really centered go with the shorter one.
Gawd, no hate to Reiley.. Riley? Railai... I can't spell names. No hate to moustache man here, but I cannot stand how everything gets compared to Apple. Oh, rounded corners? They're trying to be apple. A semi-transparent background? Apple, def. A floating dock? Oh, that's totally apple, no doubt. Like, just the most mundane, seen-everywhere-a-thousand-times-before-apple-did-it shit. I swear if Windows 11 lets users slap the taskbar on top again we'll see articles claiming Windows 11 is trying to be like apple..
I felt I was exaggerating here, but then they got into saying that the standard looking menu was definitely apple, the rounded corners on the notification is apple, and... having a notes app is apple, even though... like, are you serious? Or is the whole thing a bit specifically at my expense? If so, that's mean, guys.
I can see the UI of this working for my mother who likes using her old iPad but doesn't like how separate it is from her Windows laptop and Pixel phone, being iPad like in the UI but being more in the loop with her phone in terms of OS and apps actually works for her well, and she normally watches videos on it without headphones so the speakers are a big plus.
Frankly, I don't really see how this looks like an iPad. In addition, oneplus has always used oxygen OS on their phones and other devices and this tablet is no exception. I have used several of their phones in the past and recently just purchased the OnePlus 11. Truthfully, I feel the 11 is an amazing phone and probably the best device they've ever designed. I definitely think I'm going to be picking this pad up.
I remember a day when OnePlus was the company that would produce flagship specs for not flagship prices. If it is going to be the same price as a device, may as well get one. Probably get updates longer too.
"Do people just not care that companies copy Apple's UI and stuff?" Well considering Apple pretty much made their whole living off other people's work (Xerox, Creative, Nokia, Kodak, Motorola, VirnetX, etc.) I think things looking similar is the least worrisome. As much as it pains me to say that Apple currently holds the tablet market, considering this is OnePlus' first go of doing a tablet, and most prices for DECENT tablets (excluding Apple) is upwards of 600, I'm happy to see a bit of competition. I'm hoping this will shake things up and convince others to start making some more DECENT budget friendly tablets for people. (Why yes I am still salty about the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite I got for free that I barely use because it runs like a brick.)
Considering how many things Apple have copied from Android (like the notification shade was in Androids first release in 2008, whereas Apple didn't add it to iOS until 2011), I have zero issues with any company copying Apple.
I mean, if we don’t want to complain about company’s copying apple, we shouldn’t complain about the overpriced apple products. Developing costs more than copying…
128GB storage is... pretty good. But you still need to have expandable storage if you want the device to be an investment instead of a consumable in a few years. Storage adds up for some people. Especially for Gacha game users.
@@MartijnTVmy guess is that 90% of users never come anywhere near filling 128gb on their phone, the biggest storage consumption is probably video recordings and you likely will be doing none of that on your tablet. Most people use these devices to play a few mobile games and consume content - 128gb is plenty for that.
@@MartijnTV well 128gb is just the bare minimum these days. But like you said, wannabe premium. In markets within the US, if you want more, you'll have to spend more.
@@TheStatisticalPizza for most cases, 128gb is enough to have a functioning phone, check a few emails, and the ability to search the web. But appdata fills up quickly and with formatting and OS storage, that 128gb shrinks pretty quickly to about half. Even google stores a lot of data locally. As for the mobile games, it depends on the games. Some apps have a ton of extra content that needs to be downloaded. The 5-10GB cache data that the app store doesn't mention before downloading. All that new and old released content gets saved to your device and you don't notice till your phone says it's running low on storage.
Obsessed with my OnePlus Pad! The display is a total winner for movies and shows - crisp visuals and big enough to really suck you in. Plus, the speakers pack a surprising punch for a tablet, delivering great sound. Battery life is no slouch either, lasting a full day of browsing and video binging. The only thing that bugs me a bit is it feels a bit slippery, especially when I'm on the go. To solve that, I'm thinking about a gadgetshieldz matte TPU screen and body protection film. It'll give me some extra grip to hold onto this bad boy and protect it from scratches, all while keeping the OnePlus Pad looking sleek. Win-win!
I feel like the speakers on all modern flagship speakers are all set up the same. It's like soon as someone hears a modern samsung tab their blown away
Yeah I’m kinda sick of Labs getting to things before Short Circuit. This was supposed to be an unboxing/first impressions channel, and Labs having the device first takes away from that.
7:15 Or maybe non-apple people don't need tablets. I myself either use my android smartphone, or windows ultrabook, or windows PC, I see no need for any other device.
It's the top in portrait mode so the speakers don't blast into a couch or lap, and that's why the power button and volume buttons aren't on the top right in landscape mode. I don't mind that button and orientation layout overall. The lack of stereo speakers is somewhat disappointing though. I think the keyboard and stylus are overpriced, especially the feature limited keyboard, but I don't dislike the price of the pad itself. I'm not sure the relative performance of the processor in this one though so that would require some more looking into
I got one and it’s pretty great. I often compare it with my 2018 iPad Pro 12”. The iPad clearly has the upper hand with the A12 chip when it comes to editing. I’m editing with an external ssd and the iPad is very smooth. With this tablet I need to use proxy files in order to edit 4K but it’s fine for my use case. It’s meant to be a leisure device with the option to edit social media content. It’s a beautiful display and the keyboard is so much nicer than the first iPad folio. It’s compact and it has a trackpad. I passed on the bulky 2nd iPad keyboard since I can’t use it on my lap. Oneplus did it right with their tablet keyboard. It charges ridiculously fast for a tablet and I really enjoy editing photos and videos on it.
Hmmm.... I like my Surface, its good for a laptop as well as a drawing tablet. I've considered a cheap samsung tablet or ipad as a dedicated drawing device however, as my surface is getting old now. Depending on the price, I could see myself getting this to avoid the Apple ecosystem and abhorrent business practices. I kinda want to just by a new surface, but they are pricey.
I would love to see a Samsung Galaxy tab whatever number we're up to but in the Samsung Galaxy tab S2 form factor. 8.4 inch screen. I love that tablet I took mine everywhere. It fit in a cargo pocket. Back pocket of my jeans. A Modern processor respectable amount of RAM. Modern day OLED. Dolby Atmos front-facing speakers and a micro SD card. With LTE or 5G options available on all US carriers. Yes I know the argument can be made that our phones are about that size. But the UI is very phone like on all of those screens that are roughly that size because they are phones. and the UA string of a lot of web browsers default to mobile web pages on our phones that are that size. Desktop web pages don't look great on a narrow rectangle phone versus a more squarish rectangle of a tablet screen. Yes I know aspect ratio has something to do with it. But a 16x10 aspect ratio seems to be the good happy medium between 16:9 and 4:3 of the iPad. For book reading and media consumption 16:10 would suffice. Obviously also with the latest version of one UI and Android with the new dock thing they do. I would buy one on day one of release until then I'm stuck with a crappy iPad mini 6 that I only really use for 8 inches of Google maps in the car. iOS is stale and boring even almost 17 versions into it.
Can't agree more!! After 6 years, I finally moved on to a Tab 7 FE because the battery of the S2 can't hold for more than a couple of hours, but that form factor is something that I certainly miss. Perfect size to hold in one hand, read, watch videos, fit in aeroplane seat pockets. Bring back 8 inch tablets, Samsung or anyone else with a decent Android UI
annular derives from latin "anulus" wich means "ring shaped" , in italian we use "anulare" both to identify the ring finger and as an adjective (although this second use is rare)🤓
being realistic, how different can you make something that is physically topside entirely glass bottomside entirely metal. just call it a tablet and not a ripoff ipad
The sound effect for the little iPad counter was very annoying. It was a fun idea and having the little Apple counter take up was great but for those of us with like ADHD it's so distracting
Considering HOW bad the OnePlus' phone software has gotten in just the last 2 years, I would never buy any OnePlus phone again nor a tablet... 2 years ago, I'd have been all over this thing but with all their terrible management decisions and loss of quality software engineers, I've no interest in anything they make anymore. Edit: That they still call the OS Oxygen OS after all the crap they've done to it, slowly merging it with Oppo's OS like we didn't notice them doing it for the last couple years is terribly offensive.

12:01 Im sorry what!? 128GB with nearly half the storage taken up out of the box. that's actually ridiculous, my phone has used 74gb of storage over 2 years. WTF.
Just got mine today and it did have a peal? OP use to send usb-c to usb-c cables. But they found out the overwhelming majority of their customers use usb-a/c cables. So they went back to the A cables and chargers. To me the bottom is and always will be where the charging port is. That tablet absolutely came with a peal. Banana or orange no matter. Every OP device I’ve ever purchased has one. Someone on your crew opened the box and didn’t put the peal😂 back on. As proof, look at the cable when he pulled it out of the cardboard case. It is not factory rolled. Someone removed it and put it back in the cardboard.
The video is pretty nice, I got one complaint tho. I dislike the sound that plays when the "Apple"-Counter goes up. It kinda throws me off, thinking some notifications has gone off. I would appreciate the not having the audio cue or maybe dropping it after the first few uses. Thanks for reading!
I asked chatGPT to help me answer you without wanting to sound igonrant: "There is nothing inherently wrong with making someone's issues visible and providing them with support and resources to address those issues. As an empathetic human, it can be helpful to recognize when someone is struggling and to offer support and guidance as needed." please consider: conditioning and anxiety are often common factors in individuals who are triggered by notification sounds. Conditioning occurs when an individual has repeatedly associated the sound of a notification with an important task or event, leading to a sense of urgency or distraction when they hear the sound. Anxiety can be triggered by the perception that something important or urgent is happening, which is often reinforced by the sound of a notification. - Asking the person what is really important in life can be a helpful question to explore in therapy. It can help the individual clarify their values and priorities and identify areas where they may be feeling disconnected or unfulfilled. This can also help the person develop a greater sense of purpose and meaning in their life, which may help reduce the impact of triggering sounds. Seek professional help: If the individual's reaction to notification sounds is significantly impacting their daily life or causing distress, it may be beneficial to seek professional help from a mental health provider. However, it's important to approach this question in a non-judgmental and supportive way. The individual may already feel shame or guilt about their reaction to notification sounds, so it's important to avoid making them feel worse about themselves. Instead, the focus should be on helping the individual explore their values and priorities and identifying ways to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. 😘
I think annular is ment for the finger ...FYI : Did you know that the french word "anneau" or the Portuguese word "anel" (both mean ring) are related to the "annular" finger ;)
"It looks like an iPad" Talks about all the ways it looks different (green metallic, camera bump, shape, etc) Just because its a tablet doesn't mean its an iPad
Watching this on my iPad, I think the biggest issue with Android tablets wasn’t pressed enough. The apps suck major nuts and until that changes, nothing matters. It’s Windows Phone all over again, which is weird because Android phones haven’t had that issue for ages
The apps are fine on the Samsung tablet. This hasn't been an issue for years yet yet apple fanboys keep touting this garbage because they are too dumb to change a setting in the options.
@@unlokiaI guess the Android tablet as a whole is like what Windows Phone was on the Nokia. Only differences is that Android has a huge fanboy and cult following like Apple so people naturally flock to those tablets. Android tablets is such a niche product kind of like the MacBook is for laptops.
As someone who likes having a tablet and doesn't like Apple, the fact the UI is just trying to clone iOS is actually really annoying and puts me off. Either just go with stock Android or have your own style.
These android tablets have been making me want to ditch my iPad pro lately. The software has gotten a lot better and I love how you can do whatever you want with an android. Edit: I think I am going to wait for the Galaxy Tab s9
Wow it looks like a very good tablet so far!! I bought tab s7 fe for overall usage PLUS drawing. So i hope someone reviews oneplus' stylo. (So far im so disappointed with my tab s7 fe, it's very laggy, like it's aurora, so hard to wake up, lags too long until it finally starts to notice it's being woken up and run "okay")
I like to see competition but at some point it becomes straight up copying, especially in the software side of things. There are a million ways they could've designed oxygen os for their tablets and you can’t tell me they just happened to make everything look like IpadOS. I want companies to improve upon the Ipad not copy it.
@@alanharper23 I want to be able to install whatever I want, partially because it helps keep the device useable when support ends a few years in. And file transfer was absolute hell last time I used an ipad, had to go with ftp I believe.
