I love my MM+ so much, it's such a great small handheld to complement my Odin 2. I'm so grateful to the Onion team for consistently adding so many great improvements!
when I fractured my shoulder (I takes ages to heal, 3 months + 6 months rehab). My gaming primarily consisted of single handed jrpg emulation on the miyoo mini. It was such an awesome device for during that period in life :)
Hope you are well. I have similar stories, but with fractured right hand, it is very hard to play anything unless it can be played with 1 hand on my minor hand and miyoo mini size is really perfect, i even bought 2 so if one dies, i can swap the microsd and put on another while the other was charging. It helped me make it through hard times and i still cherish it till today.
Not one bit on information from this video is relevant to me or my device, yet I'm here because i cant help but appreciate the amount of effort you put into your videos, the guides in particular. Keep doing you :D
I have the Miyoo Mini v2 since launch. It's running OnionOS 4.2. For me it's the perfect one handed Pokémon machine! The small screen can be a problem without glasses... I am about half a century old. Gonna install OnionOS 4.3 on the mini now. Seems like a very good upgrade, especially for the yellow filter. I don't like emulating DS. It feels off, even on my Steam Deck. I have a DS Lite, but a couple of weeks ago I bought a pristine DSi XL for my handheld collection. What a great machine that is!
Saw your previous review of the v4 after I bought it from the official Ali express store and was disappointed. VERY happy to have the whiplash of finding out everything has been fixed! Lucked out on that one!
Same but 2 weeks later ! You enjoying your miyoo? Mine I'll arrive in a couple days I think. Now I'm thinking, if my GF likes it I might get 2 miyoo mini plus for us both to play together.
@@OMGitsZenius loving it! I have the plus and the v4 mini and alternate which I play! I mainly leave the plus at home and I take the mini with me everywhere
Awesome video, Russ! Maybe I missed these two things but if it helps anyone I'll post them here. 1. Integer scaling GBA basically fills out the entire V4 screen and its super sharp. Even though its a small screen it makes a great difference imo. Hold menu+start to select the scaling you prefer. 2. The PWM settings is also there to lower the humming from the speaker. Lower number = quieter speaker. Hope this helps!
I own several devices now, but my MM+ will always be a favorite. It's very pocket able, has a great library of systems and games to play, and the software experience is simply the best of any handheld I've tried.
I’m all in for an updated Pixel vid, and I was on the beta 4.3 release for a while and glad to see this got a stable release. MM+ is my favorite retro handheld device hands down.
Newer purchased MM+ work fine with C to C chargers and larger then 5w chargers. It's been tested and doesn't pull anymore then the 5w it needs. I charge mine with a C-C 65w charger for the last few months. I also experimented with a variety of other chargers. No issues noted and does not get hotter compared to a 5w.
Thank you for these straight-forward videos. I'm not a tech-savvy person, so I was kind of intimidated by the handheld emulator world, but your channel has been extremely helpful for me! I can't put my MM+ down, now!
Yes Russ great video as always! I too have been using the GKD Pixel more than my miyoo mini's but could really do with another video as I would like the new cores on miniui thanks buddy
The charging fix is such a huge underrated update, my miyoo mini+ has been messed up since the day I got it because at the time I didn't know that plugging it into my phone charger would borderline brick the device and I said I would never buy another until it was fixed, glad to see that has been done
We own two Pluses and one original Miyoo Mini. Ironically, our 18 year old son prefers the original Mini. I think for me it’s a vision preference, as my eyesight gets worse the older I get and that tiny screen just doesn’t cut it. Nice update video!
I'm so happy they fixed the colours on the V4, I ordered one a few weeks ago. It's still shipping, but it's very good to know that there wouldn't be any compromises to the screen
Thanks for this video, had no clue 4.3 hit stable release, yay. Can't wait to tryout some DS games. Great Video as always, I think im married to the Mini plus :)
Would love an updated video on the GKD Pixel! I'm still holding off on it just to see how the software experience is looking like. But hardware-wise is the one I'm mostly likely to buy.
It’s funny this video popped up because I just installed the last beta build for v4.3 only a couple of days ago. I’ve had the original Miyoo Mini for a good while now and I just got a Plus model last week. Both devices are awesome little handhelds, but because of the bigger screen and overall size, the Plus definitely wins in the comfort category for me.
I'm covered with my two Miyoo mini+ models and one Miyoo mini v2. But it's good to know that the mini v4 is now viable. Good to recommend for people who truly want a simple, very small solution.
Between this video and your other plus video I actually picked up one of these and it was on my doorstep today. I think I’m gonna enjoy the plus version.
I bought an RGB30 almost a month ago and i think i might return it for one of these. Its not the most comfortable to hold for me and the 3ds i bought was stolen upon delivery. DS and GBA games are my big thing so i dont think ill miss the analog sticks either. Thanks for the update Russ
Thanks for sharing the update video. I went ahead and updated to 4.3 on my yellow miyoo mini while watching this and I can say yeah they definitely fixed the color and the sharpness of the screen. I use the onion desktop tool on my pc and it takes care of the downloading and upgrading to the card and then when done just insert the card to the miyoo mini, connect the USB C cable and let it do its thing.
100% want to see an updated review of the GKD Pixel. Bought a MM+ off your recommendation and have always fancied the Pixel. I've definitely got the mini retro collecting bug!
I have a Plus and a V4 and am very happy with both and honestly I kinda switch between them as my daily driver depending on how I’m feeling that day and what kind of experience I want. It’s nice to know that Onion Os everything sorted on the software end for the screen and that Miyoo is actually keeping up with the V4 stock. At this point it really seems the only difference is just the size and it’s pretty cool.
I love my Miyoo mini and have yet to put on a custom firmware, I just use it to play Pokemon Pinball on my walk to the office while having breakfast so it's been pretty nice to go into making the office returns a little better to manage :)
Perfect timing, I just received a grey + and I love everything about it, looks and feels great, beautiful screen and great feeling buttons 💞 (I much prefer the buttons to my RG351M).
Ooo I love this update! I think the remote feature of controlling your miyoo mini plus on your computer or seeing the screen on your computer is perfect for people who want to stream their retro gameplay! In my own opinion lol since I was on the fence of getting this or the powkiddy rgb30 so I can try to stream my handheld gameplay!
VNC thing is super useful since I gave my Miyoo to my little brother and sometimes he finds ways to break everything there so helping this way could be nice
Thanks for another great video and your continued coverage of Onion releases! You mentioned potentially making a video about the tweaks that are possible with the GKD Pixel and MinUI. I would be very interested in a video on that topic because the limited features of MinUI are the main thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on a GKD Pixel. (I am also curious to what extent Pico 8 is playable on the Pixel with MinUI. I can see on the MinUI site that Pico 8 emulation is supported but no native support?)
""We're not gonna hit no, we're gonna hit yes!" Favorite new RGC quote :D P.S.: I love your studio space with the greenery, great wave of Kanagawa, and so on. It's always just so refreshing to look at! Helps my inner OCD chill out.
Man I wish they could put OnionOS on something like the RG35XX H. I much prefer a horizontal handheld, though I do have both the Miyoo Mini V3 and Plus
So, I have both the MM and the MM+. I use the MM+ to update Onion OS and quick swap the SD card between the two devices. The themes for both devices stay separate as well which is really neat! Just make sure that you update the firmware for both devices before you start swapping the SD card like I do. I keep the MM in my bag and the MM+ at home, then swap when needed :D
Russ, I think you hit the nail on the head. For 99% of Miyoo Mini Plus owners, getting a Miyoo Mini V4 is kind of a step backwards. Personally, I won’t be buying a V4 Miyoo Mini. Now, the new soon to be released Miyoo Flip is a whole other ball game. I can’t wait to see what kind of chip set they are going to be utilizing in the Flip. I think the rendering they put out of the black one with green buttons looks killer. 🤤
I’m hoping that thing actually comes out as that will def be the next device I buy. I’m hoping for at least N64, and PSP anything else will be a nice bonus.
I bought a Miyoo Mini v1 to complement my Steam Deck. The Deck is for home gaming sessions, and the Miyoo Mini is for outside. Pocketability was a crucial argument for me. It's a very good companion. The v1 adds hot-swappable batteries. I bought three more to be able to play all day!
Love my miyoo mini plus. The new update has been pretty good. Playing a lot of native pico 8 on it and only a few games here and there havent been able to run at all. It doesnt look as amazing on playing on an rgb30 but still very enjoyable.
Hmm surprised to hear you mention the charging difference. I've only been charging my MM+ with 45W PD C-C and never had any issues. Not saying I don't believe you just wondering how many people are actually having this issue. Perhaps only certain PD chargers are tripped up.
These things are so very, very cool. If I hadn't injured my thumb with too much d-padding, I'd be all over it. The PWM adjustment is cool too, and while I'm glad to see a screen running at 800 Hz instead of 100, either one is still pretty slow. I make LED lights, and I normally run them at around 20 kHz to ensure it won't be visible or audible.
really waiting for the miyoo flip. was hoping to resell my mini v3 to pay for it but if they stay in stock then i may need to rethink that a bit haha. i think i have some old firmware so i definitely need to update it and this video was very helpful
Awesome as every guide that you shared with the community man! Am I wrong or your menu color is different from the standard ? I’ve search how to change it but had no success.
A use case for the remote play over VNC is if you want to be able to sometimes play games on a larger screen without having to deal with transferring save files.
I agree with this so much lol. Anbernic has amazing hardware and form factors at really budget-friendly prices but holy smokes is the software hot garbage on their devices.
The ability to play the MM+ from your PC sounds like something that would be extremely useful when you are developing apps for the MM. You develop and build the thing, then move it through ssh and finally test from the very same PC.
I would love an updated GKD Pixel video. There just aren't a lot of videos showcasing it and it's abilities and since i got it I've loved having it with me.
