Bought a nice keyword unit with turntable, amp, tuner and tape deck from an estate sale. The daughter of the owner sold it to me for 100 dollars because she thought it didn’t work and all the power cables had been cut off. So I took it home replaced the power cords and turned it on and everything worked except some scratchy pots on the amp and tuner decks so opened them up and sprayed contact cleaner in them and presto. I also changed the platter belt and cassette belts too. They don’t make thinks like that anymore. Everything is plastic and micro chipped not brushed aluminium and replaceable parts.
When does the music industry finally understand that it is beneficial to them which pieces of music used by a technology channel like yours. Complaining about copyright matches in technology channels only showing a successfully repair, does not generate any profit! Thank you for sharing such great Content John!
Over here, we used to call that piano key cassette deck style the "tiger teeth" deck. And "Tu m'as dit" (You told me) is my recent discovery on Botany Garden's website.
got to love those old decks. VU porn. I have a couple of pioneer RTR decks RT 909 And a RT707. Built like tanks. All metal construction. The RT707 has the old school VU meters vertically in the center , and the RT909 has Pretty blue FL display. awesome machines.
I like the old analog cassette decks. Onkyo made decent equipment back in the day, I had an Onkyo receiver back in the early 80's. That was a cool reminder, thanks.
Beautifull machine! It's strange that as of this moment NO manufacturer is building a high quality cassette tape deck 2.0. Even Tascam/TEAC uses a mediocre mecanism for their cassette players. Very much in contrast of the enormous choice of high quality record players you can buy these days.
isnt there 4 belts in this deck? replacement kits show 3 on ebay? I cut a hole in the front to get at the tape head screw to adjust the azimuth. for years i recorded stuff and when i played it in some other decks tapes sounded muffled. I think it came from the factory misaligned. I put in a commercial tape and adjust for best sound than figured that is the right adjustment.
I know this video is 4 years old, but I just got one that needs work, but mine has a plastic cover at the bottom that covers the transport. I was also wondering if you have source for a belt kit. I have a few belt assortments, as long as I have tension it should not change the speed , right? Also was wondering where exactly you sprayed the contact cleaner. Thanks, Great video
Hey - great video - I have something very similar, a Rotel RD-500. I was wondering with yours, does the capstan continually turn even when play's not engaged. The fly wheel continually turns driving a belt and in turn the capstan. Mine does and I wondered if this was correct. Cheers man really helpful video.
So the issue with this deck is that it would start playing then stop? That is the issue I’m having with my Onkyo deck. All I need to do is take the front off and get a new belt? @johnaudiotech
Direct action controls- no Computer Controlled Mechanisms (and all of those problems) This deck like many of this period,were built to take it.Now, the plastic pieces rule. Put new belts on it? yeah sure.because that hairspring that blasted out of the universe when you took that e-clip off is NOT important.
