Many of the questions are specific to English (or British) pop culture, history, politics or geography. Of course some draw on American culture also, but the balance is toward the UK.
@@sayantanguha707 Jeopardy is really the only quiz show we have in the US (as opposed to game shows), and I don't find the format as entertaining. Although I'd argue it can be just as difficult considering each of the contestants is left to guess on their own, whereas Only Connect or University Challenge operate with teams.
For the first missing vowels round she said "Space Odyssey". Shouldn't that be counted as a wrong answer, because it's actually "A Space Odyssey"? They are normally very strict about this.
Victoria has so far been strict only if they miss one of the consonants on the screen. If it was "The Space Odyssey" and they didn't say "the", she definitely wouldn't give them points.
Hello! I need to thank you for compiling this list, I am currently on a very splendid and worthwhile binge of the ENTIRETY of this playlist and I'm enjoying myself immensely.... And am sharing the link with all of my friends in Australia - where I now live - whom are almost as dull as I.
13:21 that presidents' question was quite a lousy one in my opinion. I don't know why, it just felt kind of unconvincing in a way, not a real sequence.
@@solarprogeny6736 I just didn't like it. Felt arbitrary or too complicated to explain, and almost impossible to manage to get. But you did manage to define it in a shorter and more exact phrase, which makes it a bit better :)
I dunno, the moment Victoria said it's also Nixon, it clicked for me, even though I wasn't sure if I was on the right track. Which seems exactly the type a convoluted question this show loves.
This quiz show is devilishly difficult. I normally do well in other shows I catch on TV and I laugh at the contestants' humiliating answers when they make fools out of themselves, but nothing of that sort can be found here. This requires a lot of knowledge, but also some clever thinking. I am surprised shows like this are even around. I thought the TV has been leaning towards some brainless entertainment lately. And I rarely know answers to these questions myself, but part of the problem is that I'm not British (and English is not even my first language) and a lot of the questions requires knowledge of British things that is much less common knowledge in other countries. While another lot of questions requires knowledge of some very specific terms or names of species/races in English, which is also something I never had a chance to learn in-depth in English. I wish there was a version of this show in my country to give me a little better chances.
I am usually quite horrible at this. Mostly because I'm not British, and don't really know that many famous people. It was really nice though to be able to connect the terriers and baskets on the wall and their connections, and then figure out the connection of the red words. Surprisingly enough I nearly got all of the greek and roman gods in the vowel connect. I'm glad I knew my mythology, vowel connect especially is always my worse round when I play along as I watch.
Honest I didn't think The Gamblers were a match for Min Lacy (and her team), but I guess the wall (despite that lucky last second jab) was the Archers Admirers' weak spot.
@@zanehankins7500 @Zane Hankins Yes I was indeed thinking of "My Funny Valentine", the jazz standard. I thought she was referencing that too, not a Jojo character :)
@@Tassdo Well, it doesn't matter what she was referencing, the comment was a joke. Even though you didn't get it, I appreciate the fact that you didn't get mad at me.
@@zanehankins7500 Okay! Yeah I thought it might be a joke but wasn't quite sure :) (which is why I said I might get woooshed) No need for anyone to get mad haha
@@zwair42069 But it would matter, because you have to give the exact spelling...usually, that is, because Space Odyssey also counted, although it was not precise. @DoctorX Do you really say "Torino" and not "Turin" in the UK? I cannot imagine.
Wow! I sometimes listen to old Sister Rosetta Tharpe performances, and lots of Only Connect. Today they actually coincided: First the algorithm suggested SRT's _Lonesome Road_ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uw9ArnbNr3c.html then this episode of Only Connect 8:35.
I know my Greek and Roman gods because of Rick Riordan. Kinda disappointed they were all the major gods. Would have loved some minor gods and goddesses.
To my own surprise I knew almost all of the missing vowels before they pressed the buttons. :O I only didn't know the Alice subtitle. Did anyone else think it wasn't hard or was I just lucky with these topics?
Blimey, I posted this opinion 5 years ago ffs. How am I supposed to remember? Just for you I’ll watch it again and let you know if I still find her rude.
