The 10th episode of the 5th series of the BBC4 series "Only Connect," hosted by the lovely Victoria Coren. All rights belong to the BBC, Presentable, and whoever else might want to sue me.
"Sous-vide would be a nasty way of cooking eggs" -- oh how wrong you are, dear Victoria. Starbucks sous-vide the shit out of some eggs these days, and I eat them after every workout. Although from the sound of things, I wouldn't be surprised if you preferred "quick-oats" come breakfast time.
B17, not a B12. There are several other mistakes in this episode, such as a picture of a red panda being called a 'firefox' and some listed below. Not a good episode and I wonder if this is reviewed by the BBC later for blatant inaccuracies.
VCM misspoke when she said B12 - it said B17 on the script. A red panda is nicknamed a firefox (hence its used in the Firefox browser logo, apparently.) The Quixote pronunciation I've dealt with below.
First she's being snooty about a team "mispronouncing" Seuss (even though that's how absolutely all English speaking people pronounce it) and then mere seconds later she blunders with "Quick-sot"?? (and no, that is *not* how all or even most English speaking people (who know who that is) would pronounce it)
+GroovingPict i have only ever Seuss pronounced the way she did. on Quixote she was being ironic- that said a school kid pronunciation an dshe knew it full well
