right? that was very helpful and informative and I feel sympathy for the elk. he's an old man all along surrounded by other species. so lonely in his last days..
Went to go visit my friend this summer on the island. So many deer and those guys have 0 fear. First time seeing a deer walking in a human town so casually.
He is living longer because he isn’t fighting other elk for mating rights. Those fights are really bad on their bodies, not only wounds they get but the amount of energy exerted leaves them very weak.
@@furnacego2164 so says you, he's already lived 50% longer than most of his counterparts due to not having to deal with hunters or predators, I don't know about you but I'd give up getting laid over having to worry about getting murdered every day of my life...
@@rantional8180 he wouldn't be afraid of getting murdered everyday, hunting season isnt year round and adult elk are very rarely preyed on by other animals. He has no friends and no mates
@@furnacego2164 lol, then you explain why elk in the wild only live 10 years on average and elk in captivity live 20? This guy on Whibey Island is 15, like I said, he's live 50% longer than his counterparts because there's no competition for him there, he just gets to relax and chill with no worries, unlike if he lived somewhere else....I grew up in Mukilteo, lived in granite falls and know the area very well, I'm telling you he's better off there than out in the mountains where things are way more harsh.
Or was just too injured to return back with them, and if was a baby when it happened maybe didn't know how to get back after... my heart breaks for him, we talk of a male loneliness pandemic, this is next level for the poor animal... 😭
@@Steve-ev6vx no im sure not, but it has gotten alot worse you must admit, since theres a whole lotta women now on new missions to be boss babes... another chunck not sure what they are, and then the war to turn men and women against each other getting far worse with social media being so high in so many's lives... I don't know, personally think theres a far worse issue than there ever was before...
@@aig9672 i thought they said he was 12, 13... & been there for 10... i'd have to watch again, too tired now.. not sure if there was a question or statement in the second part of your message.
I love how he was like, 'bye, I'm sick of you guys, I'm gonna live the rest of my life alone on this island!' 😂 & he's just grumpy because he's reminiscing about how much the rest of his herd annoyed him 😅...so glad to see people try to make him feel welcome 💜
Why did you make up the part about him being annoyed at the herd? Were you trying to do the "people suck and they annoy me" thing? Because the actual facts seem to be the opposite of the point you are trying to make. He is frustrated now because he is alone
@ShaveDanis yeah and they tried to make a point that was incredibly stupid. The total opposite of the facts. Just seems strange to me that anyone could logically agree?
Yeah man, ain't that the truth? You live longer when you're not always trying to please someone else or running around like a madman for the sake of finding someone else.
How magnificent is he?! He truly is gorgeous to gaze upon! I would so love to be able to look out my window or walk down my sidewalk and see such a magnificent site as him. May God bless that beautiful beautiful animal.
The great thing is that he is not living in captivity, but under his own rules. I bet he will live till he is twenty, as long as he chills where he is. The ranger is his only friend. Thats ok. Ranger, you take special care of Bruiser. He deserves it.
He lives as long as an elk in captivity because he doesn't have any competition or threats. And he's free to roam as he pleases. Hell, he's living his best life. ❤
doubt it when other Elk get to experience the vastness of country, they also never experience playing with others or getting to explore one of the universes greatest pleasures. alone. with no one who can understand your language or suffering. Poor, poor existence. At least human metrics are satisfied.
@@user55890 to be fair, it’s not always possible to know how an animal is actually feeling, especially wild animals because their body language and general demeanour tends to be unfamiliar to us. We also frequently miss out on cues that our pets give us, so, really, this elk could also be doing fine in himself.
I just saw 5 elk in a pasture with cows. It was on the area between Spanaway and Eatonville. I’ve seen elk in that area before though. I was heading to work, doing 55 and was so glad I had great brakes because there were 3 of them just standing like middle aged women in a grocery store sharing gossip. Just all standing roughly 2 ft apart, facing each other. I slammed on my brakes and they all turned their heads and looked at me like I was intruding. I backed up and went around them.
@@Steve-ev6vx all bull elk are tanks a mule deer is orotund 250-300 pounds at their bigger weights a small bull is around 500 pounds so yeah poor deer would be made into burger lol
@@memewithinameme35 You are aware that he came there with a hurd, swimming over there on their own cycles of migrating around on their own, old ways of searching for the best feeding grounds? That is what they do,and some hedge or garden plant end up a "victim"...so what? They was there before humans settled there, probably!

He knows he won't be harmed if he's actually been there that long and haven't been shot he knows. But on the other hand he's more of a pet probaly to the people now that a wild animal
Bruiser is just enjoying his retirement in peace, my retirement plan isn't anywhere near as smart or luxurious as his! 😂 He's living his last years as a local celebrity and doesn't have to worry about younger male elk trying to take him down, smart move. The only thing he misses is a mate and even then it's only once a year, I'm sure he's had his end away plenty of times throughout his life already so he's not missed out. 😂❤🦌
He’s literally pissed off and depressed constantly. Elk do not “retire in peace”. They are pack animals and need contact with other elk. Dude is miserable and these dolts are laughing about it. Jfc
@@SnailHatan if you're going to resort to childish insults no one will pay attention to your rants. You're the "DOLT" who thinks you can read elk's minds! 🤣 life must be tough when you're constantly triggered by other people's opinions.
Love this story. I was born, and raised in Washington state on beautiful Columbia River . I grew up mixing my adventures with all the wild life, and landscape. It reminds you of a real Avatar world of magical treasures just waiting to be found. Yes the elk is a very majestic animal that should be respected to enjoy. These people are very lucky to have a guest like him. Incredible
I saw an elk one time just standing in the road. I stopped and we stared at each other for a long time. Didn't take a photo bc i wanted to cherish the moment. Was such a majestic creature.
"He can't find anyone to be his uh, uh... uh, companion" the way he struggled to say mate or something else is honestly adorable. It's like a dad having to unexpectedly give his daughter a period talk. He's literally blushing lmao
shooting off in a residential area is a serious charge, so i wouldnt worry. doubt anyone wants a handful of endangerment charges, and probably a poaching violation given hes been protected by wildlife officials.
He hasn't had a great time there, alone...once the King dies there are no Princes or Princess left behind...he looks like a healthy, large male, he could have been the alpha buck of his herd and responsible for safety of everyone else in the herd. He could have passed his genes on to other elk... Everyrhing an elk does is taken from him, except eating shitting and sleeping....i can't imagine that leaves him overly satisfied...the people who live there just let him stay so they could look at him...this is nothing to celebrate...
@@WholeWhiteBaby You can tell how unhappy he is. He doesn't eat and he's nothing but skin and bones. He's already lived 50% longer than the ten years that an elk usually lives in the wild. I think you're full of prunes.
It's almost certainly best to just leave him be. That might cause more problems than solve any. He can leave anytime he wants and swim back to where he came from as easily as he swam over to the island, but he hasn't. It's just best to not disrupt his environment and let him live the way he wants.
@mattjack3983 and they said he's pretty old, it would probably be his last year if they did. Otherwise he's essentially in captivity without being so. No predators, plenty of food water.
Given how old he is I think it's better to just leave him be; there's a reason most Elks live only 10 years in the wild, not only are they prey animals but the conflicts with eachother are also a risk to their own life and health, so bringing a male Elk over could potentially be dangerous for him since he's a senior and may get badly injured. As for a female, the Elks *can* get to the island and go back to the mainland whenever they want, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to kick start a resident population there; if he's managed to live for so long there by himself it means there are no predators, and if there's no predators the Elk population could grow quickly and compete with the local Deer. He went there by himself, he can go back if he so chooses to, sometimes interfering with an animal's life isn't the best thing for them.
@@thomasrobinette3227 why would that be out of the question to bring him a cow elk it would be horrible to live the rest of your life all alone it's almost like he's being punished. This just proves that our game wardens don't give a shit about wildlife they only care about generating money for the state.
Elk are beautiful beautiful beautiful animals and I do thank you for sharing beautiful picture of him overlooking in the distance into that forest such a pretty beautiful animals there is just not a word to describe how beautiful they are I do thank you for sharing
Protect him from All the people claiming to be from widby island saying that they feed him snacks. A. "It's illegal Under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2018 penalties may apply to people feeding wildlife" B. It could kill him, from the state of Washington Fish and wild life department (where this is) "The greatest drawback to feeding deer or elk is the potential harm to their health. The digestive systems of free-ranging elk and deer are not able to use many types of artificial feed efficiently. Fruit and grains are not a normal part of a deer's diet and can be extremely difficult for deer to digest"
