I'm neither Black or from NOLA. I live 40 miles away in MS, my home for 25 years. But when I hear NO jazz or Mardi Gras, I feel my blood stirring, my feet itchin', my shoulders hitchin'.....as a Scots, I feel the same with bagpipes, but Y'ALL got more percussive madness! Mississippi would be a real drag without NOLA influence on our Coastal history, tradition, food and music-thanks to all NOLA
@@maggieking6619 This is Black New Orleans, this dont have anything to do with white Confederate flag worshippes fron miss. Now, shout out to my black liberators from miss. not integrators. R.I.P. to my childhood associate from Natchez Miss. Paul aka Triple P. 1980 -2012
I'm from DC and we have GoGo ( Pocket, Socket, Crankige, Bounce Beat, Slow bounce). I understand everything that is happening culture wise. I whole heartedly love the second line because when I hear it, it's home period.
While this is New Orleans, the West African influence cannot be denied. I have seen it for myself during my time in Ghana, West Africa as an exchange student.. When the drummers stretch out the groove where you can't help but move your body? Down there they call it "atwim" -- the stretching. Coincidentally, neighborhood brass bands are also quite common there, too.

Was thinking the same think I must’ve lived there in a past life cuz I almost had teas in my eyes like I miss this place yet I have never been but this music fills my soul. There’s something about New Orleans that makes me feel like I need to go. It’s crazy
I'm from there don't let the music and dancing fool you them second line is where it goes down at dancing one minute and ducking gun fire the next I've been to alot of em New Orleans AKA CHOPPER CITY⚜️
I will be moving with hubby next year, back to his home in NOLA. I told him, "But I am a fat old Italian woman and can't dance.." He said, "No worry, you'll get along just fine. People in New Orleans will make allowances.." Hmm...
NOLA has a long, rich history with Italians....my in-laws are all full Italian-Americans, talk like they're from The Bronx and have many festivals, and traditions just like all the other groups that make up the olio, the gumbo that is NOLA! Welcome, there are plenty of us voluptuous older ladies shakin' our tailfeathers whenever possible. It's not HOW you dance, it's how you FEEL when you dance!
@@maggieking6619 This isn't about no Italians, this Black New Orleans. Let us have our stuff, you don't see me trying to go to an Italian parade. We can't have anything for ourselves, everything has to be integrated when it comes to Black tradition. But everybody that's non-black has private sectors that's anti-black.
As I drive around New Orleans it literally breaks my heart how Caucasian people have come here and tempered with everything that was once New Orleans this city has lost its soul .That magic you once felt in the atmosphere is gone .Everthing they touch is destroyed ask the Native Americans .
what wondering about having a paying job got to do with them secondline and having fun enjoying life and yes most do and if not whats the point of asking that queston! thank god for a life and important things in life.
