Love Jim Broadbent as the translater in this. Interesting(ish) fact: He and Miriam Margolyes (the spanish infanta) both ended up at Hogwarts as professors Slughorn amd Sprout.

Considering how smart Baldrick is in the first series has anybody noticed the insult to the injury, when the interpreter says (well, translates for the Infanta) "Don't hold back, please, my little worm." ? :D

It's basically said in the video description. Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) doesn't want to marry the Spanish princess because she's fat, small and ugly and he's trying to find any possible way to avoid the wedding. He realises that for the marriage to be valid she has to be a virgin, so he sends his servant Baldrick to take care of that. Because it's dark in the room she wouldn't recongnize Baldrick and mistakes him for Blackadder.

Am I the only one who would feel quite satisfied being married off the the Infanta?

Forgive me if I seem a tad dense, but my knowledge of this episode is rather wanting (which I plan on rectifying, once I find a quality version of it, in its unaltered, entirety), but is the premise that Baldrick has been co-opted into having relations with the Spanish Infanta, so that she'll no longer be a virgin, thus allowing Edmund to get out of having to marry her?

The 1st season was good, but 2-4 were way better. Ben Elton replaced Rowan as a writer for 2 and changing Blackadder into the clever one and Balderick into the idiot worked better. Also I think bringing back Rowan Tim and Tony worked and bringing in Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry and Patsy Burne as new characters worked well and Hugh Laurie for 3 and 4.

This is the series the BBC bigwigs said looked a million dollars, but cost a million pounds.

Ah the first series of black adder. There was so much potential, a lot of bits with really great writing. Shame it never meshed together too well. It's amazing though the difference between the series, good thing the poor reviews of the first series didnt stop them making more black adder. Wouldn't have wound up with the master pieces that are the 2nd 3rd and 4th series.

On the contrary, I think it is better than the next three. Of course, it is also very different, but to me the other series come across as slightly too cheesy, with Blackadder being far too obnoxious and irritating. But hey ho.
