it is "die pole". The two parts are one "dipole". The term "dipole" means two poles. This antenna seems to lack some of the pivots that are common of such antennas. You want to be able to adjust the angles. For best reception, the wide dimension of the antenna needs to face onto in coming waves from the broadcaster so that it is wide as seen by the waves. Finger tight is good enough for the cable fitting Tuning the position of the antenna, rotating it and adjusting the length all work to optimize reception. Most TVs have some sort of "signal meter" function. You want to improve that. Each time you make a change, however, you need to back away across the room human bodies are conductive so they effect reception. It is the smarts in the TV that makes the definition. The antenna is some metal that picks up radio waves. It doesn't know what they mean.
