The Ontario Community Food Center (OCFC) project is a significant investment in both the cultivation of just, sustainable food systems in Southeast Oregon, and in building the capacity of our Ontario branch to provide immediate hunger relief while stewarding the relationships, engagement, and leadership needed to create long-term, systemic change.
Through the Western Treasure Valley Food Systems Partnership - a collaboration of social service and food systems stakeholders across the Western Treasure Valley region, in rural eastern Oregon and Idaho - OFB will establish a community food center to improve access to free and affordable food for area families. The Community Food Hub was identified by the partnership as a key strategic priority to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities and to create abundant opportunities for agricultural stakeholders in the region.
Serving Malheur and Harney counties, the new facilities will increase capacity to process and distribute fresh, locally-harvested foods - along with a community kitchen, value food market and gathering space for year-round civic engagement to end hunger at its roots. The community food center will co-locate with River Bend Place affordable housing and the new Valley Family Health Care clinic, offering a single destination where community members can access essential resources and services.
