Ganzo is my choice. I also have the Rat 1, but I like the axis lock more, the linerlock is a weaker lock... and I prefer the 440C steel. I think Ontario made the Rat with D2 steel to compete with Ganzo ... Great video!
I like to play around with liner locks...they tend to be smooth. but the axis lock allows you to do more things with your folder without worrying that you might damage it. In general I like all ganzo models...for the money you have to pay...you really can't go wrong. In this case...the difference being somewhat smaller...I would go for the RAT1 for comfort in hand...however i still take the G727 because I know I can abuze it a bit more
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. When someone gets a knife I presented and they like it enough to mention it that just makes my day! Greetings from Romania
I always wanted a Rat 1 but found it hard to justify the price even though it is not really that expensive. Then I saw and bought the Ganzo G727. It is a great knife. My only wish for it is a more low profile pocket clip. Of course this is true of all Ganzos... I would prefer a clip like my SOG Flash II has. Rides very low in the pocket and is a dull grey colour...Thanks for sharing
i wish they had a more low carry pocket clip as well... about the "dull grey" color..you can acchieve that with the Ganzo clips by dipping them in Ferrichlorid(FeCl3) foa a minute...that will eat up the nickel plating and leave the clip grey...you can of course use some blueing sollution...and that will get it to be nice and dark... That is what I do on the ones I carry...the ones I test in the woods or give avaw as preents...i leavet the pocket clip as is...
I keep hearing that from people...It is very tempting...I gave up carrying the RAT1 because of the steel... As an edc knife, i can accept the liner lock. more fun to play with. As a dirt-knife...i would opt for the G727...
I have a G6801 with liner lock that does not work very pleasantly. Today I got my first axis Ganzo, model F-753M (the small version). The tension spring is not light, but the blade moves so smoothly! I played with it every couple moments for three hours and my fingertips just barely hurt from operating the lock bar so it's not terribly tight, and the handle is quite small (it would be easier to grip on a larger handle). Very happily surprised, never again looking at liner/frame lock. Maybe I would try back lock in the future
The RAT 1 is more comfortable. For my hand, at least. but the G727 has the axis lock...and the 440C, which is really well heat treated. I always try to look at knives not thinking of how much they cost...for edc I would choose the RAT. as a dirt-knife which would probably get some abuse, i would chose the G727
I saw some videos in wich we can see than the axis in the G727 is not as strong as in other models from Ganzo (it fails). Wich is your opinion about that?
Hi, I have had the Rat 1 and Rat 2 with Aus 8 and now I have the Rat1 with D2 steel. It is an incredible knife. The D2 compared to Aus8 is no comparison. Think I paid $39 for the D2. Keeps an edge for a very long time. So far only have had to strop it. Thanks for your vids. Ray....Oklahoma
I like the RAT1 model and I seriously hope they will upgrade it someday. D2 is a tricky thing. If heat treated well it is fantastic. If the heat treatment is off..then you get a blade which sharpens up easily but won't hold an edge. Glad you got one that has a good HT
The RAT 1 is definitely a good choice for an edc-dirt knife. It comes at a decent price and it still is one of the more comfortable folders on the market The only real problem i have with it is the AUS8.
I like the axis lock so much I may end up getting one of the Benchmades, despite the high price. The only thing I don't like about my G727 is that the blade can partially pop open when I pull it out of my pocket. Other than that, I've beat it up pretty good doing construction ad chores and it's still pretty much looks and operates like new. Is this video a bit dated? I would have thought the snow would be gone by now in your part of the world too. It's + 90 f here today. Always great hearing from you! :-)
The video is a few weeks old. We had snow here in the middle of April. I might also find some older videos which I recovered recently..will have to see if I post those or nowThe G727 is a good one. But in my opinion it cannot compare with other Ganzo models which(compared to the original designs) are really amazing. This is a good, no nonsense beater. Have you tried tightening the pivot screw. I tend to keep my folders pretty tight. Since I use them as beaters.....i care more about them staying closed or open rather than flipping them.
thank you. I was intending to review the RAT1 for a long time but I said to myself: there are so many reviews of this knife. I wanted to point out the differences between the RAT1 and G727.
Danke.
They are the same! The differences between the G727 and RAT 1 are: locking mechanism, handle length, blade steel, scale material. Everything else is pretty much identical.
As with everything else... I think that the Tenacious is cooler, better looking(by spyderco standards) than the RAT1. But the RAT 1 is more comfortable in hand and the unsharpened part near the handle makes it a bit safer than the Tenacious. The Tenacious is great if you have to work with heavy gloves on. Easy to open and close and with a thicker glove it becomes really comfortable.
Axis and compression locks will be in more knives from now on. I hope. Frame lock and liner lock require putting finger over the knife path. And frame lock must keep finger off the lock bar to open.
Hey, Mr. SpartanJohns I really hope your thumb is alright. Wish you all the best. By the way, if it is a Ganzo knives giveaway then I want G727W. Peace!
The 727 has better steel tested by bird shot 4 and a better lock than the rat 1 ( or as I call them crap 1 s as the one i got was crap in the box ! Lock stick first opening . Then second opening I didnt notice the lock fail to lock ! It popped shut on my thumb ! Fixed it with a bloody thumb ! I got a rat 2 as well ! Another cull in the box ! Lock slop and pivot slop !
