I believe the reason the covenant suddenly disappear after the spike is inserted, is because the virus is intended to destroy the ship with the Spartan 3's still being onboard -- thus sacrificing them.
yeah they are basicly turned into fire and forget weapons, send them into a ship and have it explode instead of shut down. they even talked about that the UNSC loses 3 ships for one covenant ship shot down. this is a great and less expensive solution to offset these numbers and for ONI, it is all a numbers game.
In halo lore the spartan III's are expendable, they just dont care about the rescue, that's why they didn't programmed it they know is a suicide mission
I never got the vibe that any of these "Spartan III's" were augmented and it's more just about the armor making them Spartans as part of how Ackerson views Spartans as just the armor and not the highly trained and augmented soldiers underneath.
It is quicker & cheaper to just find a lot of soldiers seeking revenge for what the Covenant has done ... and deceive them to complete suicide mission tasks.

You are the only Halo RU-vidr I've seen actually talk about how the Spartan 3's are actually Spartan 4's, on top of that they don't even seem to be augmented. Essentially just ODSTs with extra steps.
…..but I thought any users of Mjolnr had to be augmented into super soldiers because of how heavy and powerful Mjolnr is and how is tense Spartan combat is…that doesn’t make sense.
@@IgoByaGoMy guess is that ONI doesn't want to invest in the augmentations until they can actually prove their worth. Even if they intend to mass-produce Spartan IIIs, the fact these are fully-adult humans is going to be an issue for a lot of the chemical augmentations so who knows what the survival rate is going to be.
It's pretty much the same concept as the canon S-IV's. In this case, it's even more extreme, as they aren't even wearing actual MJOLNIR, haven't been augmented, and have had minimal training. Which makes sense, since they're cheap suicide troops.
I’m fine with it as long as Spartan 4’s become more like the 3’s and are actually Child Soldiers They shouldn’t be scared to show the Darker parts of Halo so much potential they have with the Universe
The Arbiter turning on his crew cemented your Heretic theory for me. It makes for a more compelling storyline than 343 Guilty Spark revealing the truth about the Halo ring imo, as we get to see this “betrayal” in real time as opposed to off-screen following the events of Halo CE. It’s interesting to note that Makee still doesn’t know the true purpose of the Halo so in a sense both are acting on blind faith. Like I said last week, I also really like Makee’s role in the Heretic storyline as it’s her way of exacting revenge on The Prophets. Both The Arbiter and Makee are being manipulated by Cortana which is so on point for her character too. Super interesting power dynamics at play, love where this is going!
Yeah she's using the to get back to the Master Chief she's sneaky about it and that's what I love about her and Makee or even ONI are not aware that Cortana is helping the Master Chief get to Halo before the Covenant or anyone in general. Though I predict next episode John is gonna have a few words for Ackerson and Parangosky which I am looking forward too
I agree, and I hope that although Chief & Arbiter may fight again, this Arbiter doesn't die. We need a compelling non-human character to add a new dimension to the show.
Alright I’m gonna play super mega devils advocate here: Makee makes sense. Not only does she makes sense in the Silver Timeline, she makes sense in the Platinum Timeline. (The canon game timeline and associated media) actually try and think about it. In the games, whenever the Covenant needs to activate anything that’s Forerunner Technology, they need to go on a wild goose chase and find a human to activate it. This happens in Halo Wars, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Infinite with the Banished. The Prophets know Humanity are reclaimers. Grabbing one Human Orphan and grooming them into the Great Journey would be an excellent choice. All the Prophets would need to do is keep them secret and safe. Even the Prophets in the Silver Timeline have said Makee is just a means to an and, and as we have seen here this episode, the second Makee stops waking up Forerunner stuff, the Elites try to kill her… and if the Covenant should succeed in killing all other Humans..they would be the ONLY force in the galaxy that can activate Forerunner technology. It makes sense to me. Change my mind.
@@obi-wankenobi523 how? That doesn’t make sense and can’t possibly work as well as direct human interaction. Hence them always going out of their way to grab one.
I think it was just bad idea to have Master Cheeks and Makee sex altogether, but otherwise it's ok. Like this season you barely have any ROMANCE with Makee and Chief but they are still connected through the artifact. @@natesaunders2105 Like if they started off season 1 and make Makee and Chief's connection non-sexual, it would've been Ok right?
While i dont like the changes made to the S-III story, I didn't really expect Paramount to have the guts to show the supposed "good guys" sending 300+ child soldiers to their deaths, part of the impact of Operation: Prometheus and Operation: Torpedo was the fact we knew these were children.
The "good guys" left an entire planet of people to be glassed and destroyed by the Covenant so it's not like Paramount doesn't have the guts. I think trying to explain the background of the show Spartan 3's just would have derailed the story too much. It's unnecessary exposition when them being UNSC soldiers trained to be Ackerson's lapdog Spartans works just fine for what the show is doing.
@@dylanv.4970 To counter the point on "Guts" There's a difference between what's essentially a brief interlude and saying "Yeah we more or less just left a planet to burn." Is different than showing an active child soldier program and either showing the results, or insinuating them as they are here for the intent of being "Disposable heroes." Children, as disposable heroes. Yeah, that's not a topic easily touched on main stream media. However I do agree that going deep into the S3 background would have been a derail with the way things have been paced.
@@larssonk22lol yep I’d go as far to say the massive derailing is the cause of why they can’t give us anything good. (That and low budget?) so they gotta waste 30% of the show with kwan and an old lady , or Spartan dealing with their emotions a core component of the halo universe and games of course…
This is the Silver Timeline .... which is after ... the Game Timeline with the original MC & Spartans. The Lore is ... the Galaxy can be reset .... by the Halos & Ark tech ... to defeat the Flood. Game MC died at least 3000 years ago after the Halos were activated killing all life in the Galaxy before the Ark reseeded it with life to restart the cycle. But some "god like" being .... made it possible .. for every cycle ... to have a MC, cortana, Halsey and Halo wars. The Silver Timeline has the Spartan 3's ... Ackerson wants (Suicide squads) .. as it is faster to train up soldiers who want revenge , smart enough to achieve the objective but dumb enough to see they are simply expendable.
i see Parangosky's story about the tea as a parallel to the Spartan 3 program. they're not spartans raised from childhood, augmented and given the best gear to be the perfect soldiers and accomplish missions no one else could, they're just... made in the very facility they're in a few floors down, literally. just like the tea. but by selling that story to the public, you can raise morale; and by selling that story, that name and all it implies to the people you're sending to their deaths, you make them more likely to accept missions that can and will kill them. you're not making them spartans, you're selling them the story that they are spartans and can be used as such. and aside from Perez, who is probably the only one here to have actually met and really talked with spartans, everyone here is buying it.
I also feel there was a flex about the power she has. When she was asked why they are spending resources on tea and her reply was "Because I told them to" was an open threat to him about how much pull she has.
@@CuriousV yeah, obviously that too. something about how ONI can also work on things you wouldn't even think about, even if you were on Ackerson's position
Your videos about the show are by far the best.. You actually break the episodes down and understand that this show takes place in a completely different universe
But he hasn't figured out ... the timelines are due to the the Halos being activated killing all LIfe and the Arks reseeded the galaxy with life ... including Humans & the Covenant species. The Game Timeline is assumed to be the first ....with the MC everybody love. Likewise the Silver times is assumed to be after the Game ... with its version of MC. So powerful "god like" entity ... make ever reset Galaxy have its own MC, cortana, Halsey, Spartan 2, 3 & 4s etc so the Flood would never be able to destroy all life ... forever. C'mon. This isn't rocket science. Once you knew the lore concerning a great reset .... what is happening in the silver timeline makes complete sense .. and is Halo lore & canon.
I love the way you explain the story difference without being biast or hating it, as a halo game and book fan I know and love the story that's been told and yes a live action retelling of the story already told would be amazing to see, I'm all for the silver timeline it's a new story being told that is not following the games/books making it intreasting and less obvious on where the story goes, I for one really like the show, yes its not action packed with chief in armor kicking butt from start to fin but that's OK in my eyes as the story being told is intreasting atleast to me, I think the key point I would give to anyone that watches the halo show is to not expect it to be like the games and the books and let the story being told, to be its own thing the comparison between the to is what is causing the hate and it shouldn't great reviews by the way very positive best I've seem on RU-vid
Remember, the show runners stated they are doing their own thing... these Spartan III seem to be closer to Spartan IV's from the game world.... PS: I wrote this right after the part of your video where you mention the issues with Perez being a Spartan.... should have waited and then I could have just agreed with you!
Perez has that Sarah Palmer hair cut going on in this episode. In regards to the Spartan IIIs. Could it be possible that there are REAL spartan IIIs out there, however, Perez and the others are not? Perhaps they are prototype Spartan IVs. Not fully augmented, and with their armor tuned down. Shock troops that ONI intend to throw against the covenant to cause confusion and buy time.
My understanding, is they changed where the Spartan II's were trained, and moved it to onyx instead of reach. It's why soren knows where his son is being kept on the planet
Additionally, I was thinking about this previously, but Captain Keys in Halo CE is not essential to be Keys. His role really can be taken by anyone, as there is nothing he really does special, beyond his slight connection to the spartan origin. But ultimately, Keys is not directly required to for Halo CE to proceed, any captain would do.
It could be that Spartan IIIs and IVs are switched in this universe. It's implied that Kessler will be turned into a Spartan and he's thought to be an orphan.
Overall, the direction this season is taking is interesting, changing things up really is making the whole theorizing scene flow, because like you said, not changing anything will make the show feel way to predictable and changing things way to much will make the community angry Although, diverging from that, one theory I've been having since episode 4 is that Ackerson will take Keyes role in the CE adaptation, if the series follow more closely the events of both CE and The Flood and we get a Pilar of Autumn, then I can see Ackerson redeeming himself during the war on the Halo, ending with his sacrifice to stop the Flood, and it wont affect Miranda's development if she still becomes a captain like we see on H2 and H3

I like your review and theorizing each episode. You point out things you don't like and note down things you do like. I didn't particularly like this episode as much as last episode but episode 7 and 8 look to be a huge battle 2 parter. Also, in the season 2 trailer, you do see Master Chief in full Mjolnir armor in space overlooking a space battle happening in orbit of a planet. At the time, we didn't know what planet that was but it now looks to be Onyx so Master Chief will definitely get suited up and go to space in the next 2 episodes. I think The Arbiter and his fleet will come to Onyx to try to claim the 2nd artifact and Master Chief and Kai and Spartan 3/4? will attempt to infiltrate the Arbiter's ship to grab their 1st artifact and more importantly for Chief to retrieve Cortana. Whoever gets both artifacts will open a portal to Halo ring through the portal on Onyx. So basically, CAPTURE THE FLAG (ARTIFACT). I 100% believe Master Chief and the heretic Arbiter will have 1 v 1 duel rematch before the end of season 2. It has got to happen. But this time, Master Chief will have his armor and no distractions. I think he will win this time for sure.
I'll say one thing, I actually kinda hope that Perez ends up with the chief at the halo, and she takes the place of Jenkins being infected but not fully turned by the flood. I think the emotional impact there of chief sort of being the catalyst for her to come out of her depression and embrace advanced military service .i.e. the spartan III's, and then him seeing her turn but still being in there and knowing there's nothing he can physically do to save her and in fact in a roundabout way hes responsible would really add to the emotional development that they're trying to add to chiefs character in the show.
It makes me so sad. This just isn’t halo. Nothing of it. It often doesn’t even look and sound like it. But the story is the worst. Even if this wouldnt be halo, nothing there makes sense. I only look it because I always have hope, it could be better or I could see cool live action stuff.
I dont think they are actual spartan 3s. They just seem like regular soldiers meant to die on the attack. They did take children for spartan 3s, thats why they have Kessler and soran is looking for them.
Oh shit your right! That means Perez is actually a Spartan IV!? What the hell is Ackerson pulling here as it seems Marines who joined the new spartan program are just to by them time to train the children to be Spartan-III which holy shit I'm all for it
I wonder if Ackerson will fill a similar role to keys. It would add an interesting element to keys giving chief an empty pistol at the start of CE if they go down that path.
It seems like the other RU-vidrs are forgetting that this show doesn't take place in the same universe. And they mostly complain to give fuel to those who don't like the series
@@Kris-er3gj And because they don't care about the these characters .. they don't see what the main story is about .. and that this is actual Halo lore & canon. It is Lore ... that the Ark & Halos .. can reset ... the Galaxy to defeat the Flood .. then reseed the Galaxy with life including Humans & Convenant aliens ... to start a NEW cycle or timeline. The Silver timeline means ... the OG timeline was reset ( all life killed) ...so MC likely died 3 000 years ago. Halo gamers have always been trolls and apparently are successful hollywood TV writers, directors & producers.
I think the Spartan IIIs of the silver timeline will be divided war orphans like what ONI thinks Kessler is and consenting adults like Perez. Furthermore I don't think the SIIIs like Perez are augmented yet but are going through before they get there augmentation.
No offense meant, I love your uploads. That being said, I am unable to watch all your videos on season two of the Halo TV show. They're so far out of sync that they're actually annoying to try and concentrate on. I just thought you should know, just in case you didn't 😊
30:15 My perspective on events based on the games being changed in the show should be based on a) good writing and b) earning the trust of the fans. Based on Season 1 and the limited parts of Season 2 that I've watched, I feel like they should have just followed the games because - aside from the fight scenes - Season 1 was a confused mess that I want to repress the memories I have of it and it seems like even when Season 2 has been trying to make good episodes, there have been moments of Season 1 style absurdity that (even if it makes sense in the minds of the writers) feels like unintentional self sabotage... with a prime example of the second half of the FALL OF REACH not having any fight scenes where Spartans use Mjolnir.
Imagine that this entire show, season 1 & 2, is just a dream that Chief is having while he’s in cryo aboard the Pillar of Autumn, and episode 1 of next season he wakes up and then it starts following the games lol
I felt the eeriness as well. While I have read the book, the way the camera angles were taken as we followed Quan, that the animal noises were familiar yet... Distorted almost. That and mentally just going "Onyx or not, this a an ONI controlled world with a base just nearby, you shouldn't be wandering off!!" They did put in that vibe, it's not just you, and it's not just knowledge. I'm not a film major or anything but I know enough to see techniques that are being used. As for the Spartan 3's. I was rather thrown off by Perez suddenly being in there. I will say on a time scale. We genuinely don't have any idea how long anything has taken, our sense of time since leaving Reach has been... Limited to say the least. We know at **minimum** upwards of a week passed. Though not entirely clear, the time spent on planet last episode is likely a fair amount of time to even give Rizz the benefit of the doubt on a spartan recovering to even waking after taking what was likely a plasma round to the lower back. That and time compression syndrome is a thing in TV and Movies. Unescapable simply for the sake of pacing, whether or not it's addressed is very hit or miss. Back to the Spartan 3's. IF we make the assumption that Kai and Perez reached Onyx at roughly the same time, and the way that Chief has healed (Because I'm sorry, even with Kai holding back, if he was in the shape he was at the end of last episode. He wouldn't have been walking. Period.) we could be seeing a time scale of upwards of a month or more. I also feel like that there might be some mix of recruitment for the S3's, as we only really have one person in the group that is solidly disciplined, and to the problematic degree. After winning pretty much everyone barring Perez, the squad lead and one or two others went absolutely off the wall at having the "Won". It's perfectly possible that while not augmented yet, the idea of augmenting to some degree akin to the S4's is what the plan is. Ackerson is still ultimately making disposable heroes, but to go public with it and call them Spartans, there has, or should at least, to be something more than the armor alone. Though I'll say that on the level of "Superhuman feats" we aren't exactly given any big circumstances for it to be shown for if anything has been done. I mean we don't even get the CG budget to have visible covies. So. It's another big question mark, for better or worse.
Seeing as the new 'Spartans' (probably 4b rather than 3), what if the the Arbiter's actions start the Covenant civil war? I couldn't agree more that this program benefits from not being lore accurate, imagine how boring the reviews would be, 'Oh, yeah, it's just like the books....' I really hope they keep this program going for years yet.
The think the new generation of Spartans are a mix of both concepts from the maintime line. They’re taking orphans like Kessler and giving existing troops Spartan armour. 3s and 4s at once. I suspected this a while ago because I thought the time lines didn’t quite line up.
Rooting for the Covenant here, everyone related to the UNSC just come across as highly unlikable. The snarky dialogue between the Spartan 3's was cringe worthy.
@@gamingonwheels2502 oh I agree with that, the organisation as a whole is. But on an individual level, even the Spartans and marines come across as bickering, angsty teenagers.
For a show whos writers emphasize how unimportant and restricting the source material (lore) is, they bank pretty heavily on the assumption that the viewer is a few steps above casually familiar with said lore. I dont know how anyone is remotely supporting what they are doing here. Onyx and Spartan IIIs are such a cool storyline and they are just destroying it just like they did the fall of reach
As much as I'm enjoying this series for what it is. (Flaws and all) I'm really worried its going to get canceled and we'll never see another Halo show again.
Some random soldier who couldnt even defend themselves becoming a spartan candidate is the most unbelievable thing ive seen on this show and thats saying a lot. Thats like taking some random infantry dude from the army and letting him join delta force.
Nice the virus is introduced, as Halo Infinite's Cyber Showdown starts. I believe the taken children are the Spartan 3's and Perez and company are the begining of the Spartan 4's. Love the Elite scenes, like seeing the priest. You think Kwan is seeing the Librarian or other Life Worker?
I don't understand how Corporal Perez got into the Spartan 3 program after she was the one who piloted the ship with John and everyone else off of Reach
Perez becoming a spartan 3 so quickly (imo) is 2 factors 1. Desperate times call for desperate measures, reach just got glassed, its ackerson, and theyre spartan 3's, makes sense to rush them through and 2. They were technically still in training, we never actually saw them in a battle as 3's yet it was all training for a mission, and they all seemed preety incompetent on the first run
I don’t think that the Arbiter is the heretic leader. I think he is going to be the arbiter we get for the remainder of the show and that Makee is actually a stand in for the heretic leader. Where as in the games Heretic leader opens Arbiters eyes to the lies of the prophets in the show it’s Makee. What I see happening is season 3 will probably be more in line with Halo 2 plot where The Arbiter and Chief will learn of the rings true intentions (probably towards the end of the season) and be forced to align to stop the prophets from activating the ring. To me this makes more sense then to introduce Thel Vadam and have him interact with the show arbiter. We have seen the show is changing a lot of the plots of the games so I could see them abandoning CE completely and focusing more on Halo 2 plot with The Arbiter who we’ve already established.
These Spartan 3’s barely seem augmented in comparison to the actual lore… and considering they seem to be adults in this timeline they’re more aline with if you were to put a Spartan 4 in spi
I have played the games and am a big fan of Halo lore, but I did not know anything about Onyx really. That scene just felt like a normal forest to me and that she was lost.
I think the "Spartan III" in the show, are their version of WWI, kitchener pal's army meets shinpū tokubetsu kōgeki tai (divine wind special attack units). i.e. i think they are mean to be stop gap SINO (spartan in name only). Non augmented Human with an as cheap EVA look alike armour so that they can survive being used as human buckshot through space. I.E. a 1000 of them is going to be cheaper and faster to produce than the 3 human warship and crew to one covenant exchange ratio). The simulation only training, their win of the scenario (i take Kai comments as an indication that the scenario difficulty was changed so that they win), the lack of of enemy for the exfiltration, Remember Reach and John. Is just there to make them believe they are ready before send them drifting a very slow pace towards the covenants machine-guns and they might takes a few aircraft-carrier with them. The Perez, Kai, master Chief, Akerson is really lacking in pretty much all aspect.
Literally the only place in the entire internet where we can actually discuss the show in a thoughtful and civilized manner, all thanks to you. You inspire a thoughtful conversation. This is no place for salty man-childs. Thank you. What you give to the community is invaluable.
The TV show is Pony, why on earth is Perez a Spartan 3, it makes no sense from a lore perspective and it was only like 6 days ago she was a failed Marine, They don’t even show these Spartan 3s to have any augments. There meant to be orphaned children parents killed by the covenant,
My thoughts on the episode. They somehow shoehorned hunt the truth and a bit of Halo 5 (Chief vs Locke) into the episode. Also the mini- somewhat schism is very reminiscent of the Swords of Sangellios/Storm Covenant War. If you have subtitles on for the episode, the priest is named Uto Mdama. What Sanghelli has the name Mdama thats also mentioned in Halo 5? I see where they are going with this and its interesting to say the least.
I appreciate the advocate stance but I dont think I will ever not look at this as a series of mistakes because of my knowledge of the books. We were robbed of the opportunity to see a live adaptation of really good books. The excuse to not make something a 1 for 1 adaptation doesnt work for me in a world where Attack on Titan (and other Manga to Anime adaptations) literally exists. Again I appreciate the effort but this show is a lost cause and waist of what could have been.
… I’m sorry did you just say manga to anime Ie. Two highly similar and interlinked media forms Of course they could be done 1:1 when it’s drawn-drawn rather than game-live action, Jesus
Dude there is like 30 books they can’t fit everything in it had to be adapted I’ve read a ton of them and I love them they are alll really good currently reading the didact book. There’s only so much you can fit in a 8 episode long season of 50 ish min episodes
I actually like the show for what it is, but yeah. I do agree with you, I read a lot, and the halo books (especially the first four), are really, really good, and it is a shame we don't get to see those stories brought to life. Again, I enjoy the show for what it is, but it does not hold a candle to the books.
@stormbreaker7373 I never said it had to be everything. If the scope of the show is master chief and the covenant war, then perfect that's a couple books and the games. If you want to link in Contact Harvest and Ghosts of Onyx those could be side series.
@@jordanclark4635I disagree. Video Games are a 'visual' media regardless of the interactive element. Cutscenes exist in these games which essentially is a mini episode of the mission before and after. I see where you are coming from but I feel these mediums are closer than you are giving it credit for. Now if you were to say the books to live action yeah that is a huge medium leap but the beauty of having the games is your visual medium is already storyboarded I.E. Manga to anime.
I think that the Spartan IIIs we see are not the actual Spartan IIIs. I think they’re going to be suicide troopers. We have to remember that the UNSC took Kessler, (most likely they are going to augment him and turn him into the FIRST, real Spartan III. Yes. I DEFINITELY got that eerie, “somethin ain’t right,” feeling with Kwan and Onyx. And I have played all the games but I’ve never read the books before. So that might’ve been the tone they were going for. The Elite Priest said there was a communication to the UNSC space. (We know that it was Cortana). HOWEVER, the way he said it made it sound like the communication was already terminated. If so, that would mean Cortana might have made a copy of herself in the Onyx base. Or she just predicted where Chief will be, at what time, what doors to lock and unlock, and what guards would get in his way. When Chief said, “You going to get that?” *No answer* “Cortana?” THEN the door opens. That might suggest that Chief moved a little bit faster than Cortana had anticipated, so there was a delay in the door opening. Love the way you talk about the Halo TV show. You’re so open minded and I, and many others, really appreciate you giving a voice to those of us who like the show. Keep doing what you’re doing!
I've never played the games, but I am hooked on the TV show. So Txs, great background info on Spartan indoctrination! As per whether these new recruits have been physically or mentally augmented -- I'd say "No." Looking at Perez she's still a petite woman w/ no added muscleture. Whereas Kai stands what a foot taller? But Perez has looked an Elite in the face, lost her entire team and family in a blink, and watched the MC fight them 'without' his armor. Something Kai can't say. And unlike Kai she has faced her fear and guilt and come out the other side. So her attitude toward Kai and the other Spartan cadets clearly shows the indoctrination has not taken hold w/ her. She knows the difference btwn reality and BS. She is 'NOT' drinking the Tea -- per that delightful exchange w/ the Admiral and Ackerson.
4:00 On the face of the scene, it would appear that they're all Spartan-III's, however, since we never saw the ODST in previous episodes and they were historically based on Reach, I'm inclined to the idea that 343 merged the Spartan-III's and the ODST in to one group for the show. This idea is moderately reinforced by the fact that most SpecOps teams in conventional militaries are all volunteers and in the show, the armor is appears to be a mash-up of the Spartan-III Infilitrator suit and the ODST modular combat armor. **edit** Additionally (as I put forward on a reddit post on the same topic), I'm inclined to believe of the mash-up based upon the lack of exfil training the "Spartans" are getting during the simulation, most notably that they all died in all of the previous runs, and are only rewarded when the mission is "completed" (i.e. their objective is achieved), not their safe return. **edit** 19:00 Actually, wasn't Master Chief trained ON Onyx? That would imply that he know the facility, otherwise, how would he know where to go to get the information he's looking for? In fact, him trying to use the thumb scanner just after this sort of implies he had previous access to parts of the facility otherwise (since he was "suspended"/"dead"), he wouldn't have bothered.
Good breakdown mate! Theory time: I agree with you, that whatever artifact is on Onyx, that Miranda is researching, is a portal or transfer device to the Halo. I would go further to suggest that, in the 'Silver Timeline', that is Onyx's secret, it is gateway to the Halo(s), not a Shield World. I think we are headed toward a full-scale assault on Onyx by the Covenant, or at least the Elite with MaKee, and the gateway is the only avenue of escape. So...the Spartans in training, along with Kai, hold the line, keeping the gateway open long enough for Chief & co. along with some UNSC forces from Camp, along with Miranda, to escape to Halo through the portal. Season cliff hanger is Chief & Co. arrive on Halo, in roughly the same circumstances that they had in Halo CE: limited supplies, no way home, and no idea where they are, save for Quan who is now the mystic guide. Chief and Co. must now survive and figure out how to get off Halo.
You missed the obvious concerning Onyx from the Show lore so far. Each planet that has Ancient Artifacts ... has a "Protector" bloodline. Kwan was of the bloodline protecting her planet ... and likewise the Old lady who committed sideways. Who is the protector bloodline for for Onyx. Remember ... for the TV lore ... Halsey is responsible for the Spartan program especially MC and the Spartan 2 .. and she is familiar with ancient underground network. Also isn't Onyx suppose to be a "shield" world .. that protects life on it from being exterminated by the activated Halos. Plus we see gates or portals ... likely ... to the Halo's and/or Ark. And the lore is ... the Ark or similar tech and the Halos ... can reset the Galaxy ... destroying the Flood .... by killing all life, and then reseed the Galaxy with life including Human Beings and the Covenant species. The Halo TV show ... is Halo lore & canon ... and is a reset Galaxy .... which will always have its own MC and Halo wars ... after what happened in the presumed first Cycle or Timeline .. that is the game with the MC we have all come to love. The Game or OG timeline ... had the Precursors giving all Humans the Mantle of Responsibility and therefore are the keys to the technology the Forerunners stole from the Prescursors. And we know the Forerunners did make Shield Worlds ... so everything on the Show ... makes sense if Onyx is a Shield world ... and will provide .. a Halsey & Master Chief .... for a reset Universe ... and the Silver timeless is after the the OG Timeline where the the Halo rings were activated to kill the Flood ... resetting the Universe to evolve over 2-3000 years .. to have the Human vs Covenant wars for the Halos..
Why are the Spartan 3s regular adult marines??? They are not even ODSTs!!! It would’ve been more badass for them to be orphans and have the cameo of them being just 13 and 14yo….
..... this gets worse and worse..... so why wouldn't we get 'odst's' with this 'power armor'? do the writers think that the mjolnir armor is like the iron man suit? (iron man 2 court scene) then they show 711 be 'captain america' fighting elites and tossing soldiers(with ease). master chief is not his super hero name(how people seem to see it) it is his military rank MCPO John -117. he didn't want to 'advance' any further..... i'm just going to keep watching the 'black mirror' to watch this strange amalgamation of halo play out. can't wait to see the promethean flood... please don't mind my mini-rant
I feel it's gonna be so weird if they treat Onyx like earth from Halo 2. Like Onyx has got so deep lore when it comes to ONI I just want to see that unfolded in future Seasons. So more worried how there treating that. Also the Spartan IIIS Well I like the Armour but it feels weird having a adult being a spartan III considering they are and originally supposed to be orphans. But This does feel like Spartan IIIIS because of Perez we haven't had details on the other Spartans ? So maybe just maybe Perez is the only first Adult in the Spartan IIIIS ? Who knows I won't be surprise if the show doesn't keep it that in depth of lore. I liked this episode better than the recent one. But still some issues they better fix in Season 3 If that's gonna happen. With which Paramount plus is gonna do most likely.
I think Parez and the Spartans attacking the Corvette are Spartan 4s but where Soren went, that specific facility has the Spartan 3 conscripts in it. One has Fight ready adults ready for Potential Augments (Parez) and one has kids in training to eventually receive augments (Where Soren was). Idk it just seems weird to have Thermopylae there but also have Wargames in a totally other part of the facility. Wargames would train them in a way more efficient way they go against the ‘actual’ covenant for one.
I have to rewatch the episode again but I don’t think they were referenced as Spartan 3. I think they are just called Spartans. They use SPI armor and are disposable so as Halo fans we reference that to S3s but this silver timeline turns them into just non augmented Semi Powered S4s. Interesting actually. Not sure why they didn’t just go with ODSTs but I’m curious to see where this is going….
A very well put together video and analysis. Thank you for confirming to me that I don’t want to watch the show. Had nothing to do with you, the creator, or your video. I wouldn’t expect the show to follow the story exactly but, I’m disappointed that the show is barely using the games and books for ideas and almost completely rewriting the story. Again. Great video. You did a great breakdown.
I agree, the 3’s don’t appear augmented at all. Side note, Master Chief is amazing eye candy! I enjoy seeing him unclothed 🍑. I know it’s not true to the game and lore but it’s not supposed to be. I’ve enjoyed the show a lot. Thank you for doing a positive review!
I think they're definitely treating the S3s like they're S4s from the main lore. Which would be fine if they still pulled candidates from special forces. Why would they pull a candidate for "spartan 4" style augmentation from a communications technician with no special training.
This was the peak of bullshit for this show. Why even call this Halo? This is as much Halo as a Spiderman show but Peter Parker eats a spider in his sleep to get his powers, he's raised by his father and it takes place in Colorado. There are good ways to adapt stories or "modernize" them or what ever, but this ain't it guys. Come on. This show should be called Destiny Ring or something. So many WTF moments in this episode. This story isn't even a spin on the original content, it's just a whole new thing set in locations with Halo names. I just can't stop watching because I can't believe how bad this has gotten and I can watch it while I work. My second favorite part of watching the show is seeing how Installation00's very reasonable predictions in an attempt to theory craft some lore founded structure into this story consistently fall apart because the writing in this show isn't even trying to keep pace with the source material.
I find it odd Kai didn't question Ackerson further when he brought up Makee. If Makee is alive, then Chief wasn't crazy. I would have asked what else was Chief telling the truth about.
We still have the Kessler question hanging out there. I think the show just switched the names of the Spartan III and IV programs around. The white haired shaman lady is pretty clearly a manifestation of the Librarian in Kwan Ha's mind.
Was also not a fan of how they kind of just jumped ahead without giving us an indication of how our characters got to onyx and when. Then I didn’t like how they made Spartans 3’s essentially a Spartan 4 and it feels like they aren’t augmented. I just wish they did more by showing us the “who, what, when, where and why” before what actually happened in the episode.
I think is the initial install of Spartan 3. So Ackerson and ONI could gather intell and baseline to build on. Otherwise them taking Kessler and probably younger children in wouldn't make as much sense.
My knowledge of Halo lore is somewhat extensive - I have spent many hours on RU-vid diving in to the lore. The only lore I haven’t delved into is that from the books. With that being said, I was unaware of Onyx’s origin and I do recall getting an eery feeling during the scene with Kwan in the woods. Do we think this was done intentionally by the writers?
Soren is still searching for kessler at Thermopolae. What if Spartan IIIs and Spartan IVs are trained at the same time on Onyx. I can't recall the timing from reading Ghost of Onyx, but it fits the Kessler storyline. I think we will actually see real Spartan IIIs in the following episode, and this Spartan episode was intentionally showing Spartan IV as a kind of teaser!
This show is not made for Halo fans. Anyone with a basic understanding of the lore or just common sense plot development. As far as I'm concerned Halo's story ended with the release of Reach. Everything else is fan-fiction
One other thing, Kai can eat it. No way a Spartan 2 especially one that has been with Chief since 6 has no loyalty. If her pill was put back in then ok, maybe I can see it. But I am sure she has her feelings and emotions while doing this. So yea she can kick rocks. Sorry for 3 different statements I really like the show and the lore you give, thanks!
Onyx was one of my favorite episodes because it had little to do with Soren’s story. Also Perez’s story is odd but not “bad” she lost her whole family but she’s a grown adult so I guess adults can become Spartan 3’s
I feel like these current "spartan 3s" are actually like a stage 1 thing.. oni trying to take less risks with consenting adults, but seeing how incompetant they are they decide they need to get kids to be spartans... hense why they took kesler.. theyre prepping the second stage whichll involve them enducing growth to adult bodies etc and turning them into the spartans we know.. not just with spi armour but the test bed mark 5 (or maybe mark 7 for them lol) armour.
Speculation that Perez is not a spartan 3 for the following: their number is greater than 300, they are not augmented, they are not training at the Thermopylae center where Sorin has tracked Kesler, Kesler is in his own eyes an orphan now, requirement for the 3's and would be prime candidate for being rolled into the 3 augmentation program given half his genetics are that of sorin 066. The 3's are at the training center at the other end of the Onyx facility.
I get what your saying about Spartan 4's and how their consenting adults but so were Spartan 1's consenting adults. They didn't steal small children till the spartan 2 program.
Let's all be honest, we're all thanking you they're overgrown odst with better armor and slightly better training That's the way they had to put it for a TV audience because they wouldn't understand the actual nomenclature, reasoning behind any sports that you already mentioned," To put it in simple terms, the writers got lazy again"
Given the dearth of info on the 3s, and how the sims work, its hard to know anything. We also don't see Kai do anything particularly spartan on screen in the sim either, perhaps its not capable of managing to sim the augmentations. Maybe this squad of 3s haven't been augmented yet, maybe the augments, being more chemical based, are only effective for a certian amount of time. I can think of dozens more options as well. I think Perez's presence so soon supports the idea that they don't have augments, wether thats a not yet, a timed effectiveness or they wont getem remains to be seen.
Even if you see the show as it's own thing, it still doesn't work in a story or logical aspect. Everyone seems to be able to manipulate anyone, kai has no logical reason to doubt john halo. He was telling everyone that the covenant was on reach and was the main reason the managed to stop makee on season 1. Why isn't perez sayung anything about what happened on reach to kai. The arbiter seems more of an idiot than a reasonable warrior, as the show wants to make him look. Parangosky and akerson seem like complete morons, why would they betray the most powerfull and usefull soldiers that they have just to make inferior less effective soldiers. Even the most intelligent A.I has told them that their chances at winning are almost nothing, why make them smaller and make an enemy out of your best soldier.
Halo the TV series reminds me of the Starship Troopers movie. we didn't get the book made into a movie, we got the director's story, loosely affiliated with the ideas in the book. Halo the series is a show you want to like, but it's just terrible.....
I really dont see why cortana is showing any emotion, the only reason would be rampancy but this is before/kinda during halo CE which is way before her 7 year mark, i think the shows just tryna make her more relatable
Well you know what the next episode is called. Thermopile. The Spartans who fought overwhelming odds and broke the morale of the enemy. Though they all died to the last man.
Your closing thoughts on Ackerson being deployed might put him in a position to take the place of Captain Keyes for the events on the Halo? Not sure how I feel about that, but interesting idea sa with the other intentional changes and deviations they've done.
You could technically make the argument Perez is a spartan III candidate as her entire family is killed in a covenant attack and wants revenge but that's stretching the lore beyond thin to make excuses for a production team that just shits on the source.
this is a fan fiction that knows the lore and doesn't care because they just want to do there own story, they just do what they want I wacth the show because it is interesting how different and wrong it is from the true story. I don't know why they let this show happen, there are so many directors that would love to do movie's and shows in the lore. I would love to zack snyder to do a live action live action project. I have no I idea why this show exists, I don't like the idea of halo fans enjoying this because it is the only thing they have fan it feels unhealthy fan should want better. I prefer every halo live action project before this more, just because this has more money dosen't make it better to me it's the worst. I understand some people who are watching might not know the lore but it makes me sad that people will think this is halo, because true halo is so great 100% better than this. Even if i didn't know the lore of halo i would know i don't like this show. Everyone ones and awhile the show has a interesting idea but rarely does anything worth caring about most ideas are not done good it is a shame when a idea is wasted. To be fair to show I love that riz was not the best spartan out of all of the spartan, she might of even been the worst of the Spartans. Her survivors guilt of making it thought the program were others died drived her to work and push herself to be the best she can be to self danger levels in the memory of those who die. That was the most interesting idea they did in the show, thinking about that idea is really interested that state of mind. I just wish we knew that before her last episode
Perez and gang are Spartans IV but Soren's son Kessler is probably beginning trained to be a Spartan III you see Soren imply he knows what's happening on thermophley
