Sounds epic. As you say nothing beats the satisfaction of something you built yourself however it turns out

@@BudgetModelRailways Bang on Mike as you said in one of your previous videos,we are losing the ability to make things ourselves.I will give you an example,i now make my own bushes and shrubs from used kitchen sponges (thanks to Gormo in Australia) Cut them up into small pieces,put them in a cheapo coffee grinder with some acrylic paint and whalop there you have it,its just as good as the stuff the major makers as well.

Nothing beats the enjoyment of a original building you built yourself, it does not matter how it turns out, it's yours as long as you are happy nothing else matters

It's all just practice, just build something and have fun with it and your skills will develop

It's why many branch lines were never able to be financially viable. Col Stephens of Tenterden Railway fame had the right idea, build cheaply lots of wriggly tin. Clever people reserve Lt Cols, lol

@@BudgetModelRailways thank you. Also will the name: Foyles wharf be carried over to this layout and do we have a name for the ideal and complete beginners layouts? I have a saying that layout is truly a layout when it holds a name. Perhaps a good way to decide would be to do a livestream and hold a vote in the chat.

Yes it will be Foyles Wharf. The begginers layout is about to be sold, but my other shunting layout will get a name at some point

@@BudgetModelRailways yup from local model shop Geoffrey alisons in worksop that place is my second home lol always raid there bag of bits they had got windows n all sorts of stuff in get alot for couple of quid nice n cheap staff are fantastic

Mounting board is what picture framers use, you can buy it from craft shops like hobby craft or do what I do and get off cuts cheap from a picture framers. Its what I use for most buildings and what I made all the square detailing from. Cereal pack card has its uses too

Its DC. The wires are attached to fish plates so they can go at any end. There are some other videos on the channel which explain how to do them which I think were fairly recent.

There are two sets of wires, one at the entrance one at the end of the headhunt, using insulating points these power the whole layout. I will feature it in a video but we also have quite a few on this subject

My internal doors are 3x7 ft and the station door is meant to be a double door so hopefully about right?

Try not to pay too much, but the basic building skills in it are excellent, even though it was written in 1948!

Sadly we don't get involved with clubs much

Budget Model Railways thanks. I recently visited a local Hastings shop I won’t name, but it’s been there for years near the bus depot. Fond memories of looking in the window as a kid, but never went in. Never been so patronised. Showed him a picture of my layout. He told me it wouldn’t work as curves are too tight. I showed him a video of it running. He kind of short circuited and just kept saying “it won’t work”. He then went on a rant about train sets not being toys. Very disappointing experience. Eventually I took my son and left.

Sadly that is not unusual in this hobby, makes my blood boil as an old school trained shop keeper myself.what a way to build a business. A trip up to Classic Rail might be worth considering

Budget Model Railways once the layout is completed, I would like to send you some photos or video of my layout, purely because you helped inspire it. Your video about having a small layout using flexible track gave me the motivation to try it while I was stuck on my own during lockdown (I’m a nurse so I had to isolate from my partner). Using a variation of 3-D printing, a lot of matchsticks, a few secondhand parts, & a Hornby starter set that was discounted, I’m nearing completion of a small layout that will be part of a ‘large coffee table, (70cm x 100cm). I’d always put off building a set before as I didn’t think I had room. The fact it annoys that shop keeper is just a bonus at this point. Lol
