You all know that I don't need any more cars. Especially needy and broken vehicles. But somehow I accidentally bought another one. Today's purchase is a $600 1994 Lexus GS300! It looks great but has some problems lurking under the hood. Let's learn more about this '90s sporty luxury sedan and find out if I just made a huge mistake!

Vacuum leak or mass air issue. Clean throttle body of carbon buildup.

That's what I'm thinking. After filming we tried a new mass airflow sensor but it refused to even run. Seems like unmetered air getting in there somewhere. Not sure though...

I loved the design of the first gen GS - I always thought of it as a Japanese Jaguar. The Infiniti J30 (a direct competitor to the GS) was also a favorite of mine. Both were stylish, under-powered, and did not find their intended audience.

The first thing I would have done with a car that has been sitting for years is flush the fuel system. Hopefully you get this up and running to a level comparable to its original standards.

MY FIRST LEXUS WAS A GS300 1995 BOUGHT IN 2003 SINCE THEN I FELL IN LOVE WITH LEXUS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT MY 2ND GS AND 7TH LEXUS GS300 ON 7 PLATES AT A BARGAIN PRICE. I LOVE THE SHAPE OF THE FIRST GENERATION BUT MY FAVOURITE SHAPE IS THE THIRD GENERATION SHAPE FROM 2005-2011. ANYTHING YOU DO STAY AWAY FROM AN OLD HYBRID CAR WITH NO GOOD SERVICE HISTORY IF ANYTHING SHOULD GO WRONG IT WILL COST YOU A FORTUNE TO RESTORE THE HYBRID BATTERY..

Love that white/grey two-tone. I just bought a 1992 Aristo twin turbo, and I can say that extra grunt really helps. I’ve also got a 2nd gen GS300 with the GE, which is adequate from a performance standpoint.

Feel lucky to have seen this look at a 1994 GS300! This is because I have a 1995 GS300 with same color but is a Touring addition that has upgraded handling, special wheels and other things. It only has 70,000 original miles in like new condition. It seems to me like a LS400 but mine handles better than a LS which has a more floating ride quality. Mine is more firm, sporty feel. Have owned it since new and always kept in garage. A great car with the 90s build quality that is not available today. Hey anyone is interested in mine, just let me know, hate to say it but need the garage space today.

Love these cars tons. Sounds like your issue might be the alternator? when my alternator died it had very similar starting issues, and that was only from 3 or 4 months of the car sitting. The cupholders are notorious for breaking on these cars so that's no surprise. Can't wait to see this thing cleaned up. Clean those headlights!! it makes such a huge difference.

I’ve loved Lexus since their inception when I first rode in my best friends’ mom’s ‘90 ES250 then fell in love with their ‘92 ES300 when they drove it on a trip to see us. I was 10 then and still remember seeing it with morning dew covering the headlamps in the early sunrise in our driveway; that’s when I fell in love at first sight. My first luxury vehicle was a ‘92 ES and I’m still in love with them. There’s nothing better than the original early Lexus models to me in terms of soft, supple luxury and the most quiet ride ever. 🔥 Even the smell of them brand new was incredible - I looked everywhere trying to find that OEM smell for my ES but unfortunately couldn’t.

Happy for you! It shouldn't take much to resurrect this one. Air filter or vacuum leak likely. Restricted fuel filter? Looks neglected a bit in the routine maintenance area, as though its having trouble "breathing". Timing belt or chain? Plus, isn't the GS a rear-wheel drive? Hope so! That would make it even more fun. Driver's seat isn't even torn! Congratulations on finding it for $600. 🙂

Love it! The gold trim package and the two-tone paint SCREAMS 90s Lexus (my 97 ES300 had those two features as well). Have you tried fresh premium gas? And I'm curious if the squeak is something as simple as a throttle body/cable that needs WD40 or a good cleaning.

Saw your video after i bought a 95 GS 300 not running right, it would start and run normally but cut off after about 10 seconds or if you get the rpm over 2k it would longer. The previous owner felt the ecu was bad as he had put a different ecm in 30k earlier and he just didnt want to mess with it. I first thought it was the fuel pump but after some checks decided to pull ecm and take a look, found burns on circuit board, shipped if off for repair, 125.00 including shipping, runs perfect now, good luck and let me know what you find with your gs

I suspect someone has used non-high-octane gas a few times and sub-par plugs. Or the EMC isn’t functioning properly. If it works at higher rpms it almost sounds like vacuum leak though I doubt a 94 Lexus relied on that at this time...would have been all electronic control. Otherwise, nice ride! Will look great cleaned up. And for $600?! Holy Smokes! :-)

That's not how that works. The driveline being in motion while the engine stalls doesn't do any damage, it's no different for the engine than just shutting it off when parked

Make sure the battery is fully charged. It seems when the car is revving higher or after running for a while it is running better. Also, change the sparkplugs and sparkplug wires. If I were to get my money, I'd say this poor running engine has electrical and spark problems more than fuel problem. But it doesn't hurt to drop the tank dump the old fuel and fill up with fresh fuel
