Stay tuned for another giveaway. Just hit 1500 subs. Might be time to celebrate with a giveaway. Definitely do for a long term review. About to hit 20k miles. Stay tuned!
Awesome. Glad I could help. Tell him congratulations and great choice on the Navarra. It’s definitely hard to keep it clean but it has to be one of the most rewarding colors out there. It’s gorgeous when it’s clean.
I've done substantial research on this, trying to find a good solution for a little more exhaust tone for the S3 since it's exhaust is somewhat anemic from the factory. What I have found is that the drive select makes absolutely no difference on the flaps in the exhaust, and it only controls the sound aktor under the hood. When the car is started the flaps are open. It usually sounds cool but can be annoying if your like me and you back your car into the driveway and it faces your house. Once you pull away the flaps automatically close, and You can hear this on my launch control video as I roll from a stop. Then the flaps open again around 2700-3000 rpm. I disconnected my valves (which defaults to open) for a day to see how the sound was and it seemed to me it just increased the drone down low (which is likely why the close when you take off from a stop), without adding more up top. I think for me I'd like to try the resonator delete, but have full control of the flaps myself. The only compromise I can see to this is there is a device sold from some german website that plugs into the factory harness and links the audi drive select to the flaps (as they should be; comfort closed, auto, and dynamic always open).
Good info here. I’m very interested to hear what the resonator delete sounds like in person to see what kind of difference it makes. I’d be interested in doing that myself since it’s a fairly cheap modification. If I wanted to spend some dough on a true exhaust, I’d probably end up doing the AWE switchpath. The sound clips I’ve seen for that set up are pretty sweet and you have the remote to control everything. It’s a shame that it’s so expensive. 2 Grand is a lot to drop in a cart back exhaust.
ThatBlueS3 I agree. The awe sounds the best. I've also considered getting just the switchpath remote and the factory resonator delete. I've heard its thr best of both worlds and it's easily reversible. Plus total investment is around $400
That’s another option. I also want to add that the main reason that I opened up the flaps was for the even distribution of the soot. Makes the tailpipes much easier to keep clean.
good point. I've actually given up cleaning mine. I neglected them for too long and they don't come back. At some point I'll replace the tips and discipline myself to clean them bi-weekly so they don't get stained and pitted.
Uk models there is a switch on the top side of exhaust we simply need to pull out once we are in dynamic mode and the valve then remain open as it’s essentially lost power to the valve
I did this on my golf R in the past. my wife and I couldn't stand the drone for more than one drive out. The car will sound exactly the same when accelerating but you are just adding the drone. I wish if there was a mod to reprogram when they open and close.
Yeah this is def going to be a personal preference mod. Did you happen to turn the soundaktor off? The droning sound could be coming from that system? I still have mine turned on so I’m not sure what it would sound like with it turned down.
I had soundaktor reduced to 30%. I was doing mostly highway driving that day. I would imagine city driving is more acceptable with the flaps always open.
Oh ok that makes sense. I’m mostly doing city driving and sitting in traffic on the highway myself so I don’t really notice it. I should probably re-activate the flaps and take it for a test drive to see if I notice any difference.
Hey, I followed these steps and it worked! There's the issue of droning at around 120+ km/h and I was trying to revert the settings back to the original but was not able to. Can you please guide me on how to do so?
Nice. I have them disconnected too. But regarding the OBD11 I heard you can permanently open them without disconnecting the wires is that true? . I have an iPhones so what product similar to OBD11 works on iOS?
Yes that is true. I’ve posted a video on my channel describing how it can be done. I’d recommend picking up a cheap android device to use obd11. Its much better compared to competitors.
I have a 2017 S3 with res delete kit. I bought the obdeleven port. I can’t unlock the mirror to drop in reverse. And would love to open the exhaust flap. How do I do it ?
The mirror dip app should work with that. As for the exhaust flaps, I listed some instructions in the description of this video. That should work as well.
seen your question today. I thought the mirror in reverse didn't work either until i read the disclaimer.. you need to put your mirror setting dial into the R or (right) setting. then the mirror dip will work in reverse. if you leave it in the center it does not activate when in reverse which is nice because even though enabled, it allows you the option to toggle.
Hey man. Really useful info. I just thought the outer pipe is fake since the soot didn’t build up. Is the noise the same as dynamic mode minus the rev in comfort mode?
Nope they are definitely fully functioning pipes. The exhaust is slightly louder than stock when driving around in comfort mode. Nothing to noticeable though.
I would've left the valves in it's default setting. Cold starts need the back pressure, to help warm up the engine. Once the ECU, determines warm up it adjust the valves open.
Im not sure that is a true statement. The valves are open at startup. As you take off from a stop they stay closed until you reach a certain rpm, which seems to be 3k.
Nice review. I have a 2018 S3 in Ara Blue Crystal Effect! Jeez! Anyway I have the Stage II APR tune with the down pipe. So from the Catalytic converter back, my exhaust is stock. I always drive in Dynamic mode and in Sport as well. I did notice a difference that the down pipe made when driving, so do I also have this issue with the valve remaining closed?
Seems to be a lot of confusion around the exhaust flaps. From what I understand, which could be wrong, the flaps are open at idle, when you start moving the close until 3k RPMs, and then open above that. I’m not sure if that happens in all drive modes or not.
Oh, I also just got myself a Dragy! Check them out at Amazon for about $150. Finally I can (very) accurately track my 0-30, 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 times as well as many other readings. Now I need to find a straight road, not busy, anywhere near me to try it. Sofar a 4.2 second 0-60. Bad start and all, still have to figure out the best launch for this car. Any thoughts on the best launch method?
Damn 4.2 is pretty quick. I’ve only launched mine a few times and just turned off the traction control. Mashed the brake, mashed the gas, then let the brake go.
can't you do the exhaust flaps stay open mod in the app tab? obdeleven has that option, all you have to do is scroll down an you'll see exhaust flap deactivate
They are constantly updating the app so it is possible that they added it. The last time I checked, which was a few weeks ago it wasn’t an option for the S3.
oh oh, you uploaded this in may, an i did this to my R back in like march so i guess its possible that they added it for the S3 recently. they just now added tthat throttle speed mod too inside of the app tab, i just did that today an i just found out you can do the increase traction mod in obdeleven, idk how the fuck i missed that but i did that today too an wow what a difference it made
Yeah I’m pretty sure that I did the manual coding for that same mod and the car accelerates so much better. It’s more linear and doesn’t hit you with a ton of power all at once out of nowhere. I’m also getting better gas mileage. Not sure why Audi didn’t do this from the factory.
I’m not sure if it affects warranty. If it does, it would only affect the exhaust system. I have not seen anything about opening them in dynamic mode only.
Slightly mad to find out the “valved exhuast” is nothing like BMW M4’s where the flaps that close route all the exhaust gas into fhe one big muffler (just like audi’s) and flaps open, it is straight through.... bmw did it right.... audi did it wrong....
Thats actually a really good question. You may run into an issue with them seizing up if you have them locked open all the time. I know this was a common issue with the B7 RS4s. How do I know that? Because the flaps on the RS4 that I just added to the channel are seized up.
Hi - Can anyone advise me on which OBDeleven dongle (product code?)I need to buy for the Audi S3 Cabriolet and which app for iPhone that is compatible and will allow me to disable exhaust valves as per this video?
They should but you can confirm by taking a look at the pipes at the back. If you see a wire going into a valve that is connected to the piping you have them.
So it's clear all youtube Audi/VW vloggers were sent a free copy of OBDEleven, considering how these have popped up like mushrooms. So did you all have to sign a contract not to talk about the credit system in the app? Literally no one mentions it. Also their website is very vague. How much do credits cost? An honest review please...
I actually bought mine on my own after I purchased carista. None of the features worked on Carista for the facelift so I decided to try OBDELEVEN out and liked it much better. You can get up to 5 free credits per day by watching ad videos within the app. I never had to buy credits. Just logged in every day and got my free credits. Let that build up.
