The stiffer Hat they put alot of Hat Stiffner on it or Shellac it's intended to be more of a Fall/Winter/Spring for the Outdoor's Man for the Weather Elements. The more relaxed Deluxe is made for more Casual wear such as a Summer Evening stroll or maybe a Bussiness Mans working Hat. I like the stiffer Hat it is a good Sun Blocker and Rain too. A Night out on the Town the Mushroom colored One would probably be perfect. Interesting comparison Kevin!

The sage looks great , but modern Stetson Open Road has a lower crown than the vintage , but Royal Deluxe are NICE .

The softer hat is actually better for snapping because it can be snapped back and hold its shape, as someone daily wears a 6x open road, once you snap your brim down it will kinda take that shape over time, i try to snap my brim back up and the whole brim just looks goofy unless i re-steam it
@quadrogong1111

You should try snapping it back up when you don’t wear it. Snap the brim back up and store it upside down, I get great luck w my flange like that

I went with the royal deluxe. it’s very comfortable, and even though it doesn’t have the brim snap of the regular, it isn’t floppy by any means. It’s a bit more delicate, but also the softness allows a much easier reshape if you wanted to change the crease.

Hey Kevin, I noticed your finger tips had an ink substance. Is that from the color of the hat? Thanks for the videos man! Appreciating your work from California

I like flat brimmed hats and might like an Open Road for special occasions, but not to wear daily. For one, I'm not that fond of a cattleman's crown. They are pretty popular these days -- it's hard to find hats without them unless you buy an open crown and shape it as you like. My preference is something like telescope crown, but less pronounced. Also, I generally like a wider brim. This is largely because I have developed a tendency to sunburn my eyes if I'm not careful.

Who would say you had international fans! Hi Kev! Just purchased a fur felt trilby (the Gramercy) from your store, it's shipped all the way to Sweden. However, hoping on buying the Openroad anytime soon. I would definetly go for the sage, kind of a late trend nowdays. Keep up with the videos.

Which version would be best for molding the brim to a desired shape?
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 4 года назад
KuriosPC the royal deluxe is softer, the 6x is hard, stiff and rugged. These are snap brims,u can flip them up or down in front and in back, like a Fedora. That said, I suppose the softer one, but most folks leave those brims alone, it’s not a large brim, not a lot of options there..all up, Down in front. Or all down, I suppose, but u could leave it up and mold it interesting a western roll, but that’d require some good, hot steam...

I appreciate the video. If the deluxe is slightly better quality then the 6x, then what is the count quality for the deluxe?
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 2 года назад
It’s made of dress felt, which has no X ratings, and the felt is not officially better or worse quality, it’s just softer, its dress felt, and the other open road , the western one, is made of stiffer western felt, neither are better, just different.
@crownandbrim9261
@crownandbrim9261 4 года назад
Kev, I have a quick question. Is it a problem if the inside of your crown touches your head? I must have some sort of Mega-Mind-esque dome, because it seems to touch the inside of most hats. In fact, the Arlo is the only hat I own right now that doesn’t touch. What do you think?
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 4 года назад
Not necessarily bad, if u bottom out and don't have enough depth to pull the hat down deep enough, then it's bad, if u just touch it and the hat is near the ears,down deep enough,you're ok

No, sorry we don't stock long oval westerns, we have a full hat making workshop here,and can reshape a hat a bit more oval, but no. .we are primarily a dress hat shop,our western Dept is pretty basic, although it's expanding slowly

Bro, I need help buying a hat. Love the looks of the stratoliner and open road. No clue where to start...
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 3 года назад
Open roads are VERY stiff, and a stratoliner is soft and comfortable. The open road is much more western looking, and a Strat is basically a dress hat with a thin band . I think all of the summer straws are coming out now, so you might want to wait and see so,e new arrivals which will start to pour end of in this month and throughout next month.. take your time, and also consider some other hats, keep looking..the answer will come, I can answer any questions.. the Stetson Calico is an amazing hat, very hearty felt, versatile, slightly wider brim. Also I think u might like something classical and slightly Indiana Jones,too..like the Stetson Temple in brown (“mink”) that’s the brown hat I wear sometimes..u can wear it brim up, brim down in front. Or brim down all the way, I Jones style.. keep searching and be methodical, think forest of u want stiffer western felt like the O toad, or dress felt, like a Strat,calico or temple. Then think about brim size, then color.. and narrow it down. happy to help w any questions.

I'm partial to the Silverbelly as I have 2 hats in that colorway, but geez that sage is next level slick. I'd love to see a "Shootout" between the modern open road and a deeper crown/wider cattleman crease like that custom Stratoliner in a previous video.

I have a Stetson labeled Royal DeLuxe. What’s that really mean? Just a marketing term for rabbit/hare fur? It feels nice ‘n soft when compared to my Akubra.
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 4 года назад
Akubra is western felt,thicker and stiffer The Stetson is a dress hat category..softer felt. They categorize dress hats with different qualities, each different series has a name.. Sovereign Stetson Royal Stetson, Royal Deluxe Stetson Excellence Quality It's a hierarchy,the better the felt, the better series it's in.. total deluxe is second from highest series, the Beaver stuff and hats over $300 are in that highest range..but it's a small category.

I definitely want the comfort of the royal deluxe but I also want the durability of the 6x open road. Do you think the 6X is significantly more durable and capable of withstanding rain, snow, heat, etc? I know it will hold its shape better, but I'm referring to the durability and longevity of the furs and materials, not the ability to hold it's shape. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks for the videos!

in your spare time, take that open road and make it into a tom mix gus style and put it on the shelf, it will sell faster than a bucket of ice in hell
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 4 года назад
That's a good shape,I dig it too u need a deep crown to make it look right though, One thing though.. nothing sells faster than a silver belly open road, Gus/Mix is the kinda shape that everyone loves admires,and it catches their eye, but in NYC the open road shape is super super trendy, anything too big or dramatic doesn't sell to new Yorkers, more to tourists,folks from out of town..they're a little shy out here when it comes to westerns..
