I really like the open road with Cattleman crease because it looks like a cowboy hat with a small brim and you can have the brim flat or with a slight turn up edge on the sides. Given a cowboy hat brim
Oooh, that looks really good. Perfect color. I'm not super into the distressing or the feather, but it's hard to argue with the Open Road. Love the fedora brim to kind of soften the "yee-haw" factor. Looks great on you, too.
I am 67 years old, living in Texas for 40 years. This is my favorite "Cowboy' hat! I have the sage also. We wear palm or straw Stetson Open Roads most of the year but always look forward to felt time! Of course, I snap the brim down :)
I bought an open road 6x caribou and the Yancy in phantom Grey to wear in fall winter, Los Alamos straw for summer, and the black crushable wool fedora The Markham... great feel and looks!
I love your review; since seeing this a year ago, I have been trying endlessly to get my hands on this. Finally! I am stoked to have the Distressed Open Road Sage ordered. It is always out, and I even called Stetson to make sure my order went through, that I'd get no "We apologize but you are on back order." Thanks again for the review.
Cool hats. CJ! I always liked the fedora and have several cowboy styles but i really am liking the versatility of the open road style.Going to have to get a silverbelly open road soon. Thanks for sharing.Boots and hats and watches and guns and bikes etc lol.
Just found your page and subbed because of the boots. And then see this about the open road is completely awesome. Just picked up the silverbelly a few days ago. Looking forward to more videos man. Cheers 🍻
Alright CJ, you doing hats now! Sweet! Can't go wrong with Stetson. They've been around forever. You should look into having some bespoke hats. They'll only fit your head. I love hats also. Very nice pickups. Take care my friend!
Have been wearing the open road for 55 years, the x used to mean the amount of beaver fur used, the more x's the better qualit, now it's still the more x's the higher quality.
I'm not into the distressed look, but I have a premier Stratoliner in sage with the brown trim. I really like this color especially with the brown trim. Your open road looks great on you!
My great grandfather used to wear the Stetson line back in the early 80s before his death. He wore it as he worked and pretty much everything. I don't remember much about him but I do remember him putting his hat on my head whenever he seen me
I really like the distressing, the more rugged look is definitely my style. I'm not much of a hat guy, but I did buy a Stetson hat and a Filson hat not too long ago. I want the Filson x Stetson Wolf Canyon hat one of these days. Check that one out, it's seeexy.
Man those hats look sick, I have just about every style of hat, all but the open road... you should do a follow up video to see how they wear in some time
Just ordered my first Open Road in Sage. Size came in stock and I got an email . When I got to the site it said “ only 1 left “ . Sure hope there isn’t and inventory error or I’m hosed !!!
Looking good Man! That’s a great hat and it works for you! I have had a chance to check out the Garland Texas Outlet Store and I now have 5 Open Road Hats. I love ‘em. Thanks for the video. Stay safe.
I only saw three of your vids but from what I see you're a Stetson man and I aint mad at you for that. I'm 55 my pops got me strung out on Stettys. Bro that hat 🎩 is I'll but that Stratoliner keeps escaping me but I'll grab one soon, I love them. Jamie Fox got me liking them.
Hey, good looking hat! Quick question-can the back of the Open Road be snapped down too? That is, both front and back snapped down at the same time? Thanks, Anthony
With wear over time all these hats develop their own patina as wells unique creases having said that this wearing apparel is an investment in your own self-expression. Back in the day when my father wore a hat barbering was more art than it is today so you may struggle to find someone who will cut your hair so that it naturally compliments the use of a hat!
@@CJCook nice! If you're ever in London soon: www.thegreatfroglondon.com/product-category/jewellery/rings/ Aside from their skull rings, there are some real gems at TGF. I'm pretty sure they have a store in NYC or LA.. take care!
I don't think anybody else has mentioned it but the Open Road Stetson is considered a city hat not a traditional cowboy or working hat. Some people refer to it as the Lawyer's or Car Salesmen's Stetson.
Is the brim floppy or flimsy? I really like the distressed look, but I don’t want a flimsy brim. I prefer the snapped up all around look. Any info appreciated. Thanks
CJ Cook yes it’s tougher than finding a current production hat but it’s possible. I’m a 7 5/8 and I found one in 7 1/2, I bought a hat jack for it and it stretched it out to what I needed!
CJ you must have a Truckload of Fur Felt Hats! The Classic Open Road is a Presidential Hat styled with a Western Theme yet,you can shape it if you buy the Oval Premier Open Road which is softer then the pre formed Model you purchased or the LBJ Texan Open Road Hat. It's super stiff cause it's pressed Rock Hard from a molded Block and the Brim is too it will get softer over Time and use. The Deep Forest Green and Turkey Feather are so Purdy some People don't like the Feather I do with the tattered Ribbon really gives it Character. Billy F. Gibbons owns a Silverbelly One. Stetson's most popular Hat in my Opinion looks good on Broad Shoulders too. I never saw the Six Shooter Gun Hat Pin before definitely another Pure Beaver Insignia Hat Pin if it's pure Beaver you said it was a 1865 Stetson Hat? They look cool too tilted slightly when you wear it.
I have always removed the feathers from hats. I don't like them, at all. I don't get the "stressed" thing, at all but all my hats are weathered naturally at my age.:) Living in the city now, I have traded in my open road for a whippet. I do love Stetsons
@@CJCook It is. I love Stetsons. I have never been disappointed by a Stetson hat. They are not the only guys lion town (the planet) but they are one of the best. I am now negotiating with my hat store to see if I can get a Stetson with the Stratoliner edge ribbon and the Whippet hat band. This is the wrong season for it but planning ahead is not bad. I got my summer linen fedora in March, well before the weather caught up.
Great hat! I own a silver belly, but need them all. I reshaped mine to raise creases on side and widened top close to a brick crease. Looks like a chopped hot rod!
Hello Cj Cook. Great video dude ! I would like to buy this open road hat but it's not easy to find one in France. Can you tell me if these hats size big ? I usually wear a size M in Stetson, but never bought a hat like this one. Thanks man ! ;)
Awesome review and breakdown, on a retail question. Anyone know a site I can purchase an open road? the US site won't ship out of the US and the EU Stetson site doesn't sell the open road. Thanks anyone in advance for the pointers
HELP HELP HELP ME please i am searching for this hat for months the sage one, i cant find it in my country ( netherlands ) is it possible that you send me the link where you bought it, or where i can find it. Thnx for helping....grtz from me.
I went for my Birthday 🥳🎉 🎂 in June to get a custom made fedora hat 🤠 in Sage from Greeley Hat Works it's about up to a year wait in some cases. My last and first hat took 8 months to get.
If you're in NYC, just take it to JJ Hat Center on fifth ave and tell Kevin you want it to be shaped. Ask for the crown of the Stratoliner and you can't got wrong. Kevin is the man there.
@CJCook JK! You good informitable videos! Jealous of how many you have, they all look stylish! Keep up the great work.. maybe dip into the classic whippet and the Trilbys and maybe the wide flat brim fedora. I own 4 stetsons: open road 6x caribou, the Yancy in phantom Grey, Los Alamos straw, and the black wool crushable fedora the Markham.
EJShelby open the crown w steam, you can use a ballon to shape it round. Then make the side creases really thin. Tatton Baird has a great example of a hat like this.
"Six 'ex'," not "six 'time'." Just for future reference. Not being a jerk, just helping you out with product nomenclature. I have a non distressed Open Road. Fits great. I also have a Stetson Metropolitan. You might check out JJ Hats on RU-vid. Kevin has a lot of videos and you might find a hat model or style you haven't seen before that you like.
I enjoy your website. If you like fedoras, check out Optimo Hats in Chicago. Graham Thompson is an amazing hat maker with great credentials including making hats for movies and celebrities. .
It is my understanding that a Fedora has a hat band or hat ribbon that is at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. Yours is much narrower. Am I wrong. All the famous photos show a wider hat band or ribbon even Indiana Jones has a wider Ribbon on his hat.
It's a Stetson 'cowboy hat' with a fedora brim. Has a cattleman crease with accompanying band. The band goes with the crown. The brim is what's fedora. Think of it as a hybrid. Hope that helps.
