Trying to open my first retail store has been really hard. It is sickening to think that there are still people in this world trying to hold Black people back from success. I am disgusted by what has happened to me, in the town I live in. Please watch this update!

I’m a Realtor. It’s against the LAW to “steer” others and to guide them to different areas based upon sex or race.

Thank You! ❤ I am weighing my options on how to proceed but I have been granted a hearing from the National Realtors Association. I asked what would happen if the woman is found guilty and she stated, "If the hearing panel finds the Respondent in violation of the Realtor Code of Ethics, the hearing panel will impose discipline on the Respondent. Discipline can include a fine up to $15,000, the requirement to take a specific education course or courses. and/or a Letter of Warning or Reprimand". I don't think this is enough. She will just continue to do the same thing. She may even take it out on other Black people trying to get retail space in this area.

@@ParisNikkole good. I hope she is fined and disciplined. Unfortunately, I doubt she’ll actually change. She’ll just be less crass in the future. I hope the outcome is that they will force her to rent a space of your choosing from her. Will you be able to do anything about the white folk candle bar that’s being opened? Will it be difficult to prove that you had the idea first with what you’ve documented? What’s awesome is, you have proof with your RU-vid channel.

Thanks to everyone here for all of the support! ❤I appreciate your words of encouragement so much! Quick update: I was granted a hearing which has finally been scheduled for next month! Hoping that all goes in my favor because this woman was wrong and I am sure I am not the first or last person of color she will discriminate against.

Yes! I was so hurt when I saw this I just broke down and cried. I have been searching for an entire year and this woman knew I was trying to open a candle bar. So for her to try and push me to a minority area and allow this company to open a candle bar is maddening. This company doesn't even have a website and 179 instagram followers! That is a slap in the face! But I will continue to fight. Thanks for your support. ❤.

Expose them and vlog the process so that people all over the world that watch your videos can know exactly who she is. This is uncalled for an blantant discrimation. I would also try to have your story heard at the local chamber of commerce, to get more in town news on the situation, plus most peoplpe that are in the chamber of commerce have businesses in the city or plan on doing business in the city.

I was granted a hearing from the National Realtors Association which stated "The ethics complaint that you filed against xxx was reviewed by the Realtors® Grievance Committee. The committee determined that if taken as true on its face, the complaint constitutes potentially unethical conduct and should be forwarded to the Professional Standards Committee for a hearing, citing Articles 1, 3 and 10 of the Code of Ethics." I will also take your advice and reach out to the local chamber of commerce. Hoping my fight will help others. I appreciate your support. ❤

Yes queen! Go TF for her entire head….that’s so messed up. Maybe there’s an update to this video and I missed it, but what is the status of your grievance currently? Ouuuuh this literally made me so Mad and hurt watching this. I’m in the process of starting my own candle business now and I just couldn’t imagine something like this happening to me I’d be so devastated. Thanks for sharing, standing up and fighting. Its the fact that its so obviois cause they thunk you wont or cant fight it. Dont know much about these things and hope if needed you get outside reps and courts cause who knows how deep is her network

Agreed. I am sure she thought I wouldn't fight for myself but she was wrong. My Mom said the same thing about her network knowing that her family is rich and powerful in this area. But she will be exposed.

This is so discouraging on so many levels. I am here for support and will follow your story and share it so other can be aware of the warnings. We as a people have to fight for spaces in the world ,the crazy thing is i feel you are more qualified for this space than the stolen idea behind you. Candle Bars are opening up in alot in major cities and I have a feeling you are going to get a space that you wanted even if you have to build it yourself. You are amazing 🤩

Thank you so much for the support and sharing my story. ❤️ It is a shame that there is a constant battle for our people to get ahead. I literally have a larger following, built out website, online sales and market sales but this company has literally 176 followers on instagram and no website! It is crazy. Candle bars are definitely trending which is why I saw the need in this town because it did not exist when I started looking for a space. I receive building my own space. God has a plan, I just have to do my part and allow him to work behind the scenes. Thank you for your words of encouragement, it is truly appreciated! 😊

@@englishgarden2036she would be suing because of discrimination. She didn’t rent the commercial space to her because she was black. Adding insult to injury, she leased the space to another business owner with the same business idea.

She never gave me the opportunity to apply for the rental space. She tried to push me to a different town which has majority minorities unlike the town where I wanted to rent the space which has zero minority owned businesses. She lied and tried to steer me in a different direction due to my race which is discrimination.

This is just so crazy that in this day and age people of color still have to experience this. I hope my fight allows more people who look like me the opportunity to open businesses in this area.

It is so sad to see so many comments from my Sisters who have experienced the same issue. Unfortunately I did not win. It was no surprise that everyone on the judges panel looked the same. No representation of color at all! It was maddening that they summed it up to make it seem like I was disappointed that the space was rented to another candle company. It was a slap in the face and although I was hurt I have not let it stop me from looking for a space. The problem at this point is the same woman who I filed the complaint against, her Father owns the commercial brokerage that manages 95% of the spaces in our downtown area. BUT I am a fighter and I will keep going until I get my space. Were you able to find a space?

@@ParisNikkole yes. I've finally found a space a mile or 2 away from where I originally wanted. Please pray on it. I prayed for my store daily for roughly 2 months. I asked God for very specific details and not only do I have that store, but they agreed to most of my terms and it's in a great location. I hate saying it, but look outside of your desired area. There may be something better waiting for you. And dealing with that horrible, sneaky family for 3-7 years may make you miserable. Best of luck. Please stay encouraged. 🩷

A change have to start somewhere and you're the start of this change without fear. It’s NAR- National Association of REALTORS (not NRA) First question, is she a REALTOR or a Real Estate Agent? Yes, there is a difference. If she is just an agent she cannot be reported to NAR. As a REALTOR myself, make sure you see through w/ the reporting but confirm what she is first so that you’re not wasting time. Also is she a Broker or an agent? There is a difference. If she is an agent report her to her Broker. If she is a Broker, report her to her local affiliation and then to her state board.

I have not tried to get into retail stores because the margins are too high. I would need to find a new supplier to get my overall costs down significantly before I can consider retail. It is something I would like to do down the line but at the moment it wouldn't make much sense at this stage in my business.
