Embark on another thrilling chapter of our gold mine revival in the RU-vid video: "Opening My Gold Mine! Part 3: Timbering The Shop and Clearing The Adit." Join us as we journey deeper into the heart of this ambitious project, breathing life into a forgotten treasure trove.
Jason leads the way, commencing the video with the vital task of organizing the shop space. Witness the meticulous timbering of walls and the strategic arrangement of tools and equipment, setting the stage for an efficient and productive underground mining operation.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! The true adventure unfolds as Jason and his dedicated crew ‪@mineoperator‬ dive into the task of clearing and cleaning the adit. Watch as they set sturdy stulls, carefully remove the old steel rail, and embark on the process of racking and mucking. Their goal? To transform the adit into a safe and navigable passage, laying the groundwork for upcoming mining activities.
The journey isn't just about gold; it's about reviving history, preserving heritage, and realizing a dream beneath the earth's surface. As we continue rehabbing our old gold mine, every swing of the pickaxe and placement of a timber takes us one step closer to reclaiming this hidden treasure trove.
Stay with us on this riveting expedition as we bring you more updates, progress, and the exciting moments that shape the revival of our gold mine.

I think you should reinstate the railway. It's a whole bunch easier to push a cart full of spoil or ore than to carry a wheelbarrow or whatever. For the effort of doing it, it'll save a lot of time and backbreaking effort later, especially in sections where you can't stand up straight. Cost/benefit. If the old time miners found it easier to use barrows, they wouldn't have installed rail.

bro have you ever mucked and pushed a full two ton ore cart? Let alone solo? Even doing a half ton cart is a god damn effort with three people. the old timers worked in teams rather than solo. I mean realistically setting a section of rail solo would be absolutely insane to do as well. He's definitely doing it right for this being a hobby mine and not a production mine.
@andrewclarkehomeimprovement
@andrewclarkehomeimprovement 8 месяцев назад
Pushed an ore cart? No. I have however moved 300+ tonnes of muck by wheelbarrow and run it up onto a dumpster/skip and I'll guarantee that pushing four wheels is easier than carrying on one and that's allowing for the fact that outside there's no restriction on headroom! You will kill your back trying to carry a full barrow when you're even slightly bent over.

A good coarse blade on a porta band will zip through that rail and pipe. Blades are more expensive but last a lot longer than sawzall blades. Keep the sawzall around for the places that the porta band won't fit. Also, battery chainsaw for the timbering.

Arm chair keyboard warrior here Jason if you have a blind backing like @4:30 put a wedge in against the stone slide the upright post in place then tap the post into position #2 wedge now goes between the top wedge (backed up by the rock face, so it is unable to move) and the top of the post. You can create a lot of lifting force like this. Same thing I learned in vehicle rescue and it cave rescue while working as a firefighter. Just a suggestion sir. Love the videos it allows me to live vicariously through you .. :)

Hey Jason, love your videos! I have been an underground miner for over 50 years. I have active mines as we speak. I like what you are doing but I am really not understanding why you aren't making use of your exsisting rail? It would be much more efficient to acquire or build a dump car instead of using a wheelbarrow. Your rail looks to be in good shape. You might have to replace some of the ties but it is much more efficient to use the rail. I might have missed the reason for cutting the rail out, if so, please excuse my comments. Keep up the awesome work!
@Porty1119
@Porty1119 8 месяцев назад
That confused me as well. There are some 1/2-yard LHDs available that would likely fit, using something like that is the only scenario I can envision where not having rail makes sense. Wheelbarrows just won't do it if there's drift to be driven.

I’m sure you know this, but Milwaukee makes a circular saw as well. I feel it’d be a lot faster to use one of those than a saws all on those pieces of wood! Just a suggestion though :)
@whosaidthat5236
@whosaidthat5236 8 месяцев назад
The depth of cut with the circular saw is not enough you would have to roll the post and do 3-4 cuts to get threw it . And then this cuts will never line up proper because the wood is rough sawn so not square. I’ve build many many decks fences and gazebos and pergolas using the 6x6 . Now there is a really cool attachment for the circular, you can get a 12” chainsaw bar on it that’s what I used.

Jason, I dont remember the age of the mine and the rails, but if those were made pre 1940 they may be Low-background steel. For those who don't know most steel made since the bombs dropped dropped in Japan and other nuclear testing has contamination (from air/oxygen used in manufacture) that can make it unsuitable for making sensitive instruments. Might be a market for it still, with the right companies.

Two years ago I added blacksmithing to my high school shop classes as a way to teach metallurgy. We cover heating, tempering and annealing. We discuss the reasons why you cannot weld or heat specific parts of farm equipment or components as the heat will travel down material and affect the metallurgical properties. I would love to give a shot of working with my students to create some products out of your steel. My youtube channel ( Agteacherthoughts ) is still small, but a series of collaboration videos might be fun. Winter is coming to North Idaho which will limit my content to indoor things like shop skills so this would be a good fit. Let me know if you are interested.
