When Henry VII defeated King Richard III on the battlefield during the Battle of Bosworth Field, he dreamed of a dynasty on the throne that would last for centuries. But within 125 years of the end of the wars of the Roses, the Tudor dynasty would come to a whimpering end as the death of the brilliant Elizabeth I took place and break the hearts of the nation. Inside the Tudor family was the notorious King Henry VIII who had 6 wives and two of these he had executed inside of the walls of the Tower of London. But also there was Mary I, who was also known as Bloody Mary. It was a time period that changed England forever, but because of the intrigue around the Tudor monarchs many of the most prominent Tudors were dug up following their deaths, or they had their burial vaults disturbed a number of times. In this documentary we will look at the different times that the Tudor monarchs had their burial vaults or coffins broken into, and what these people would find would be incredibly shocking and at times harrowing. This is opening the coffins of the Tudor Kings and Queens.

Great compilation. I've mixed feelings on Tudor Kings & Queens. They built to improve, won battles, prevented invasions but also destroyed much, and battled their own people in what today would be called tyrannical. Yet no matter my opinion of their lives, no one after death deserves to have their mortal remains & grave poorly treated or desecrated.

I have a theory as to why Elizabeth I chose James VI/I , son of Mary Queen of Scots to succeed her. I have three points: 1.) The most obvious is he was her second cousin and by blood eligible to succeed her. 2.) I suspect that Elizabeth had some guilt regarding Mary's execution. I often wondered why they did not come to some sort of compromise, become allies against any who would seek to de-throne them and enjoy the ability to co-rule, Mary over Scotland and Elizabeth over England. I understood that as children they were fond of each other. I find it hard to believe that their affection for each other dissolved so quickly in adulthood. 3.) and this is one of the most telling. When Elizabeth's father, King Henry VIII died, in his will he requested that a Seymour, (possibly Jane's Brother?) succeed either Mary or Elizabeth, whoever died last. I think Elizabeth held some resentment towards her father for his treatment of his wives, in particular her mother, Anne, who he executed on trumped up charges. I believe, as a final flip of the bird, Elizabeth made James king instead. Elizabeth, in some ways killed two birds with one stone She made amends to her cousin Mary and avenged her mother's wrongful execution by her father with one scratch of the quill. This is just a theory, mind you, but I think it is worth considering.

@@jesmichel I read somewhere that she was coerced by her "advisers." They convinced her that Mary was a threat to the crown. She was torn. She didn't really want to do it, that's why I think Mary was imprisoned for so long before she was executed. I think Elizabeth was waiting till she could safely release her, but her advisers powers of persuasion were more than she could stand. I think she felt more threatened by them than Mary, quite frankly so she did it against her better judgement and regretted it till the day she died. I don't claim to actually know her mind, but the power of the nobility was quite strong back then and had an almost tyrannical influence over the monarchy even though it wasn't quite as evident to the subjects.

Henry VIII needed a male heir. The risk to the kingdom without one was absolutely enormous after the years of civil war known as the War of the Roses. No woman had ever been a ruling monarch. The chance of a female sovereign dying in childbirth was far too high. As it turned out the Tudor family died out after the last two female monarchs. Neither had children.

I heard the coffin of Henry the VIII was being taken to St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. On the way Henry exploded in his coffin and his juices leaked out and onto the ground with the dogs licking it up. The sarcophagus intended for Henry the VIII was instead used for Lord Nelson and is St Paul's Cathedral.

Funny to think that we all consider henry vii 's dynasty ended in 1603 because of the patriarchal lineage. In reality every single royal since has been a direct descendant of henry tudor because james 1 was his great great grandson through his daughter. Its henry viii that was the dead-end, not his father.

Mary I., was called that after her death. Although not coined by John Foxe. His work, The Actes and Monuments / Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. Is where most historians say the moniker originated from by its readers, yet finding the very first written source of the term "Bloody Mary," remains oddly undocumented.

10 seconds in and already a falsehood. Henry the VII took the throne in 1485 with very questionable royal lineage. However, as we know he was followed by Henry the VIII, Edward the VI, Mary the I and then Elizabeth the I. (All offspring of Henry VIII). Therefore, the Tudor dynasty lasted a total of two generations. The narrator states that Henry VII created a dynasty that lasted centuries. Elizabeth I died in 1603. That's a total of 118 years. That hardly constitutes using the phrase 'centuries'. Switching off, in order to avoid any further misinformation or blatant rhetoric.

The narrator didn’t say that at all.. it said he dreamed of a dynasty that would last for centuries. Someone dreaming of something and it actually happening are not one and the same. Perhaps, read the words she said in the description as it’s written exactly as she said it. You may need to check your hearing if you heard it so differently than how the narrator actually said. Pitty.
