PLEASE NOTE! I've found that you can remove the front plate without removing the knobs, if you completely remove the central aluminium bar first. Then you can unhook the front plate from the back, and then lift it straight up!
The Oxford Synthesizer Company OSCar is a nearly mythical monosynth used by Ultravox, Jean-Michel Jarre and many more, perhaps most famously it provided the synth bass line in "Do They Know It's Christmas?" OSC manufactured less than a thousand of these, making them as rare as they are weird. This rarity, together with the unusual design, questionable build quality and the company's brief life means it is sometimes called "The DeLorean of Synths".
Repairing this one has taught me a lot about the OSCar, if you have one in need of repairs, do not hesitate to contact me for advice and help. It is NOT easy to repair, you need an expert.

nice to see an OSCar video on YT. I have one and I had to have it repaired by a synth tech. I was working fine for 6 months then I turned it on and nothing. Just a octave light lighting every 6th or 7th key presses, plus the odd white noise sound. Some people say 'wavetable' must be reloaded. I am not sure if they are referring to actual wavetables lie with a PPG or just the factory sounds. Not a lot of clear info on repair on the net.

Yeah, that happens when the battery runs out, it loses all the memory. It will then often crash on boot, making it non-responsive, or if it boots, the presets will all be either silence or random noises. In the latter case you can reload the memory via MIDI, or I presume, tape, and it will work again. If it happens again the battery is dead and needs replacing.

@@Bike-Professor Well, no one is sure it's actually is the factory patches, but there is a patch set floating around the internet. There's a good mailing list called oscar-owners on freelists, you can join there and ask as well.

Following. I started up my OSCar a couple of weeks ago after it (he?) having been stowed away under the bed for a couple of years. Didn't get any sound at first, only an occasional high-pitched tone, but after an hour or so it started behaving normal, only to go silent again after five minutes. Will be interesting to follow your restoration project.

Quick info (that will be the next video): Don't disassemble the keyboard. But do change the battery, it sounds like it's dead.

@@RegebroRepairs Yes, I have watched (and liked it) already! Very informative, and it made me realize that I need to deal with the battery as soon as possible. Thanks!

@@RegebroRepairs Well, it took me two years to get this project going, but better late than never I guess. The original battery is 3.6 V, but I see you used three AAA batteries, which should give 4.5? How flexible is this? Thanks!
