I played a lot of FFTA as a kid and to this day love how nostalgic and triumphant it sounds, always takes me back and has the perfect atmosphere. A few games with great music to check out are Haven, Daemon x Machina, Valheim, or Sable
FFTA is so underrated, sure it didn’t do everything great but it was GOOD. A lot of people didn’t like the change from the original FFT but as someone who played FFTA first it was a great experience as a kid. The music was a good example of it so I’m glad you are covering it. :D
Omg this is so nostalgic. Unlike FFT, FFTA have really light tone and fairy tale-ish, I can still see the tutorial snowball battle in my mind. I already replay this game a few times, unlike FFT, FFTA & FFTA2 is pretty easy as long as you grind enough, but completing all the achievement still so fun. I can't wait for new successor of it. And Triangle Strategy is more FFT than FFTA, so it doesn't count.
Might want to clarify that this is from Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. The original is a very different game, at least in tone, and the music is also very different along those same veins. Far darker and lacking a lot of the bright, adventurous feeling of a song like this one. Both absolutely excellent games imo, and the music is top notch. Hitoshi Sakimoto is a genius that doesn’t get nearly enough recognition.
Could not get into the battle mechanics of Tactics Advanced at all. I think a large part of that was that I had been craving another game like Final Fantasy Tactics and seeing the Tactics name used really got my hopes up before being crushed when the game just wasn't like the original.
I honestly never played FF Tactics, but I put in a LOT of time into FFTA. Loved that game to bits, I probably but way more time into that game than most other FF games aside from FFXIV.
As soon as I heard this theme, aside from the flood of memories, it made me directly think of "The Pervert" of the original/war of the lions final fantasy tactics as almost a direct antithesis to this.
I'm surprised to see this one covered. FFTA is my favorite in the franchise and I loved that song so much. The orchestral version of this one begins with amazing fanfare.
If you want some good GBA music, being from 2001, Golden Sun has you covered. The first game's main battle theme and Saturo's battle theme being two of my favorites. More recently though, Tactics Ogre Reborn has some really good remastered tracks and they added a few new ones. "In the Fray" easily being my favorite.
With the release of Tactics Ogre Reborn. I can't help but hope we get Final Fantasy Tactics: WotL rerelease on PC with technical fixes of things that the PSP game suffered from.
This is my favorite track in FFTA! I adore the 5/4 time signature and this track is a stellar example of it. I submit to the court that both FFT and FFTA are good games- the most common way to not like FFTA is to expect it to be a sequel to FFT in mood, tone, and mechanical complexity. It tells a very different story, but just because it's about kids in a videogame world doesn't mean it doesn't have a story anyone can appreciate. I know lots of adults that need to learn a lesson about not running away and pretending their problems don't exist... (Infomercial voice) I'm one of them! As far as gameplay mechanics goes, I won't claim it's as complex as FFT tho, cos it's not lmao. I just don't see that as a bad thing.
When it comes to tactics titles like that, one fond memory of mine will always be the first vandal hearts. Some really catchy music to be found there as well given the ps1 limitations overall. Would recommend a casual browse through the songlist for it. ^^
I did not get this game either when it came out, but finished it years later, some of the best written dialogue in the franchise, I hope we will get a remake one day. Other great tracks from the OST are: Ultima - The Perfect Body, Apoplexy and Holy Angela's Theme. (Edit: I now see that FFT and FFT Advanced are two different games, no wonder this sounded very unfamiliar, I though Advance is just a remaster).
Final Fantasy Tactics is peerless. Such a great game. Very few games I've ever felt actually lived up to the word "masterpiece" and Tactics is one of them.
Hay mi madre! I HAVENT heard of this game for YEARS!! Amongst my favorite GBA GAMES!! I actually 100% it! I EVEN STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL STRATEGY GUIDE!! I’m honestly tempted to play it once again… And I do recommend to play the OST of the original PS1 GAME, especially the WAR OF THE LIONS version!
Probably my second favorite battle theme from the game after "Companions That Surpassed Their Race". You should totally give a listen to the original Final Fantasy Tactics music, especially tracks like "Antipyretic," Trisection" and "Helldance".
I really loved that game - since FFX was my first mainline FF game, this one introduced me to the FF job system. Been a fan of RDM ever since. Speaking of FFX, that Zanarkand theme still sticks with me.
You didn’t enjoy the best single player final fantasy game? Madness. And yeah there’s just something about the yasumi matsuno games and the osts that were made for them, such as ff tactics, vagrant story, and ff12.
I don't really like the Advance version of FInal Fantasy Tatics. In my opinion the tone shift was a bit too harsh, and when you see this game next to Ogre Battle: The Knight of Lodis it gets a little bit stark. But that doesn't mean I don't like the music! This every little bit of Final Fantasy in it and sounds heavenly.
Wow nostalgia hits hard sometimes... I beat this game a few times since everytime someone reminds me of it I need to play it. Well another run of this is in order.
Really glad to see you looking at some of these different games that get little to no recognition. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced was incredibly frustrating to me. Final Fantasy Tactics (and the War of the Lions re-release) is one of my all time favorite Final Fantasy games. For this game (and the subsequent releases) to follow that game up with so many weird, and kind of awful, decisions is mind boggling to me. Especially when they got a lot of the music right. Really appreciate this upload and I'm hoping to see more like it.
I never played Final Fantasy, but it felt a lot like an adventure, the closest thing that comes into mind is pokemon, going out on a journey etc. Also day 5 of asking for pokemon villain team boss battle themes!
Hey Marco, if you ever planned on doing more Armored Core tracks, I’d highly recommend the main theme of Armored Core 3: Artificial Sky. Its an incredibly unique track with a lot of strange sounds and vocalizations to pick out. It has 4 versions in-game but the one with both the action packed synth and melancholic violin would be the version called Artificial Sky IV, which plays during the game’s end credits.
Long ago FFTA helped me when I was sick and lying at the hospital. My roommate had an GBA - very unusual thing for my country - and shared with me) Even now I sometimes play FFT/A/A2 with using emulators on Android. It's like usual FF + chess party xD Sorry for bad eng btw
FFTA's tone for the most part is very different to its predecessor in no small part due to how its world is set up. Even villainous bandits must obey the Laws as enforced by the Judges and as a result you end up with this battle theme which has that almost playful quality because in a sense, this IS basically play fighting. People who cheat and break the rules are given red cards and thrown in jail. And it ties into the overarching story when it begins to take off.
Never really played final fantasy, feel like it’s a lot to get into Also we waiting to see more outer wilds content (no pressure I know it’s emotional)
Hey Marco! I know that you probably recieve suggestions to listen to any piece of music everyday, but there's one thing I'd like you to... experience, if you please. There's one composition called 'Panacea' by Richard Vreeland, or Disasterpeace. This tune is from another iconic game like Undertale, that you're playing right now -- the Hyper Light Drifter. Like Undertale. it's done in a pretty pixel artsyle, but the game speaks to you through music and ONLY through music. I can't say the topic of discussion, but I think you can feel it when you hear it, because you can hear what the composers are trying to say to us; I'd appreciate if you listen to 'Panacea' and share your thoughts about it. Plus it contains the musical historical background, such as impressionist piano melodies, and you can shine your knowledge of music theory here, a-hah. If you decide to hear it, thank you ✨
hey, could you check the music of the messenger ? i absolutely love the music on its own but it is a retro inspired game like shovelknight but with time travel, so the music and game change from 8 bit to 16 bit , i hope you like it
Not to downplay the original's greatness, and we can have different opinions about the plot of advanced and its depth, but the gameplay isn't really so extremely easy like I've seen some people say, it's a nice sweet spot unless you really grind out clan wars and side missions, and it's also not simple either, it's just a different console, a different format. Making team synergies, working around (or WITH) the laws is challenging and fun, like, if you mindlessly send out your units without checking the laws you're probably not gonna have a good time. Oh, how I wish you could rotate the camera in FFTA.
Hi Marco, maybe someday you will try ost from the game: pathfinder wrath of the righteous, there is a lot of different music, I think you will like something.
I don't think this is very representative of Final Fantasy Tactics tone and seems to only mimick the soundscape. Maybe that sounds negative, but if Marco hasn't listened to Desert Land, Trisection, The Pervert, and the Shop and Tutorial tracks, I think he's being misled on what Tactics sounds like.
Final Fantasy Tactics ADVANCE is just so much worse in comparison to Final Fantasy Tactics for the playstation 1 in my opinion. FFTA is just for kids, it's literally about kids, but the protagonist is kind of psychotic in his aim to bring back his disabled friend by force to reality, who is fine and enjoys his life in this alternate magical world.
You have to understand that Mewt robbed everyone else of their free will by (LITERALLY) turning the entire world into a fantasy world. There's nothing fair about that. Mewt would need to learn how to face his inner demons and grow up, instead of running away. In Marche's determination to bring the world back, he also helped his friends grow, which is ultimately the moral of the entire game. FFTA wasn't supposed to be the same as FFT on the Playstation, but they are both amazing games in their own right.
