This song made my life. In 1982, I stole my mother's 8-track tape, and took it to the roller skating rink. I talked the DJ into playing it... at the right time. I took my sister's best friend out on the floor, and sang this song to her. I broke through the "Friend Zone" with this song. Sadly she passed 2014 from cancer. I miss you Sheila!

Bill was good friends with Elvis. Once when Bill was preforming in Vegas. Elvis and his posse walk across the entire stage behind Bill as he was singing one of Elvis's songs. Bill didn't miss a beat as the audience went wild. Elvis stuck his head out after Bill finished and look at him and said, " Not bad son ".

The introduction was by Nancy Sinatra. Your reactions are so entertaining. To be fair, this video is 56 years old. I'm glad you got to hear this. Have you checked out their "You'll Never Walk Alone"? Up until the pandemic hit, Bill Medley was still singing.

He's back with Bucky Heard performing the Righteous Brothers classics and more. I saw them 6 months ago in CA. Awesome & packed auditorium of fans. His daughter McKenna sings in the show. Together she does the Jennifer Warnes part of her & Bill's hit "Time of My Life" He always pays tribute of Bobby Hatfield. The Ed Sullivan Variety Hour TV show has a great clip of "You'll Never Walk Alone". Also love their Moonglow Records 1st album. They loved singing soulful R&B songs like "Hold On, I'm Coming" which they also did on the Shindig TV show so there is a video of that altho some of the old Shindig videos aren't the best quality you get to hear & see them live. I know they are appearing in Laughlin NV this week Nov.17-20, 2022.

Cool! you found the TV Tape clip with the REAL soundtrack instead of the one with the studio recording dubbed over it. Introduced by Nancy Sinatra, Frank's daughter. From 58 years ago!!! This is how it was boys and girls...THIS is how we saw and heard things, put your smart phone down and live with it 🤣 what you do get is experiencing history the way it was rather than cleaned up and changed...plus the girls screaming from the audience at the end. And even the guys liked them [Well okay, if my girlfriend says their good I'm not gonna argue]. . Did you know that before they were offered a major recording contract in 1964, they were the opening act for the Beatles?!!!?? Then they had left the tour when they got the contract and went into the studio and history was made. Some of that Beatlemania rubbed off on them for sure. My guess is some of the kids knew that they had toured with the Beatles and that helped give them a pass as "Hey man, these guys must be good."

Bill and Bobby performed fairly often on Hullabaloo and Shindig, two musical tv shows, in the mid 60’s. I also remember seeing them on shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show, the Andy Williams Show, the Bob Hope Show etc. Unfortunately, around 1968 their popularity waned and they split. Medley decided to go solo. The good news is that they reunited some years later.

The Righteous Brothers are one of the musical artists I’ve discovered this year and became a fan of. Been a good year for that. I had mentioned this to my folks in a text, since that’s really their generation’s music. My mother texted me back that she once read in a newspaper about one of their concerts. The article mentioned that a lot of the girls in the audience were swooning to their performance. Really love it when Bill goes off on the bridge, belting his bass-baritone notes so powerfully. The Righteous Brothers will always be just that. ✨

The Righteous Brothers songs you've done so far are all from after they got picked up by a major label. When they were with their first label, Moonglow, they were edgier. 2 of my favorite songs from then were I Just Want to Make Love to You and Little Latin Lupe Lu which Bill wrote about a girl he knew in high school.

Hi Maggie, thanks for that! I was maybe five or so, not sure, when I'd hear the Righteous Brothers a lot, and many others. Just sharing... my Aunt Thelma and 'Uncle' because he was dating my aunt and always sporting a tie and suit) would visit every Sunday. They were a 70+ year old dating couple! They'd visit every Sunday for the Lawrence Welk show, Ed Sullivan, and Wild Kingdom, bringing ice cream and cookies. We'd sit in the living room and watch those shows, including sometime Disney's magic kingdom. They sat on the couch, my dad in his recliner, mom in an easy chair, and me on the (carpeted) floor. Like clockwork they'd show up. That went on for years, but it they were great years really. Thanks Maggie for everything.

I hope to see you react to more videos of the Righteous Brothers because there are so many hidden gems from their 2 years on Shindig where it shows their versatility and their humor. Thank you for keeping their legacy alive through younger eyes and your great reactions.

In those days there was no video tape. These recordings were kinescope … actually filming off the TV screen so the quality was poor. Unless they were filmed live (which wasn’t generally done with these weekly teen shows, its the only record we have.
@mikenolan8044
@mikenolan8044 Год назад
@@zanhar7688 Video tape had been in use for over a decade at that time. Kinescope was much better. It involved sending the image to both live broadcast and to 35mm film at the same time. Check out the old Honeymooners episodes and see how sharp and clean they are. That is Kinescope. Jackie Gleason came up with the idea and asked the engineers to create the technology. There are a lot of those episodes on YT. Also, they are lip syncing to the single, not singing live. That was typical of TV practices back then.
@zanhar7688
@zanhar7688 Год назад
@@mikenolan8044 … although videotape was around in the fifties or earlier, it didn’t come into general use for these lower budget programs and even then was not preserved much of the time. This was ‘live’ but the one I posted earlier had the studio version dubbed over the live version, as opposed to being lip-synced. The Righteous Brothers did use recorded tracks sometimes… especially for their ‘wall of sound’ numbers, but they almost never lip-synced. The only times I am aware of were on some of their appearances on ‘Where the Action Is’ which took place on the beach.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Linda Ronstadt, the GREATEST of all of female singers. She could sing anything, pop, rock, country and western, she had #1 song in all 3 genres at once and 5 platinum albums in a row, mostly multiplatinum. she had one of the most powerful voices ever. there has never been a singer like her. She spent a year on broadway singing the lead soprano on The Pirates of Penzanze. she could sing anything. she made #1 all time album in Mexico singing conceones songs in spanish...they show the most powerful voice in rock... look at Track of my Tears, Blue Bayou, tumbling dice, and her duet with Aaron Neville that won a grammy...she won many .....also check out Karen Carpenter one of the great voices of all time...and was a drummer....unfortunately she died at 34 of bulemia.... do Sinatra's Old Man River....Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma was at Dodger Stadium with 75,000 people the night before World Cup Soccer Finals in 1994. Hollywood built a multi million dollar set against the wall in center field and the stadium was full and they filled the entire grassy field with chairs...the front rows was the royalty of the world.. I was there and Placido and Jose Carrera made up the 3 Tenors...

They're lip-syncing to their studio recording (as was the case with almost every performance on Dick Clark, Hullabaloo and Shindig). But that means it's rerouted thru the onstage speakers to pick up the live audience response, so it loses some definition. Sorry. As some folks have noted, that was Nancy Sinatra introducing them. At one point around 1966-67, she had four songs on the charts at once (two of them were duets), plus she was an actress in a motorcycle gang movie.

There are much better recordings than the one here... I've seen and heard much clearer versions here on You Tube.... try to find one and you'll be even more impressed!

There is a better version on the Ed Sullivan show, which is not muffled and the orchestra was better.

There is a much better video and audio version of this song. This clip doesn't do them justice.

There are several better recordings of this song. You owe it to Your self to use one of them.

This is really a poor video so you should listen to this on a record/album.
