To The Top Crane | Setting beams in a basement for a new construction house. We were using our 17 ton capacity boom truck for this job. Unfortunately, we got caught in the rain.
Antique crane collector here, own a 10 ton osgood crane built in 1949 has 30 ft of boom on it. I just recently brought home a 1980 Ford LN9000 with a 10ton Nation 6T47 boom on it. Everything works but the winch, it hoists just fine but will not pay out. Tulsa winch, getting ready to start taking it apart to try and fix it. Our local national product support dealer told me to scrap it and he’ll sell me a new one, and that’s where out conversation ended.
I run a 30-ton manitex fixed cab crane for the crane outfit i work for. Learned in a 45-ton National swing cab crane but got stuck running the stand up crane to start out. Same thing at our company, it's the crane nobody wants to run lol. I keep a rain jacket in my crane and heavy winter gear for the cold days. You're right though, it does make you a smoother operator after running it with those big levers for awhile.
We got a nice size crane here in Manchester Iowa setting up a 340 foot tower for the railroad it was something to watch. Keep up the great videos. And give your buddy there a big thank you for serving our country
I have a few tower videos (although I dislike towers). If it is putting a 340 foot tower, it must be a big crane. Probably a 250 ton or bigger. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
That was a little different. What the heck were they building out there anyway? Long way to go to take a shower and then get muddy. Thanks for sharing the video of you washing your truck.
Tell the young man thank you for his services. That place reminds of some of the places I've delivered building to job sites you get in some pretty hairy conditions. Grind them some more they'll make them out of rubber someday Jimmy lol
+John Warren, Kaleb says thank you! We get into some worse situations than that from time to time. I did do some gear grinding in there. Lol. I even referenced the "rubber" comment. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Thanks for your service to this great country, Caleb! (sp)🇺🇸 Better get her in the shop this winter and start fabricating the umbrella holder! It would be nice on super hot days as well.
Wayne Tharp, I'll let him know tomorrow what you said. I should start fabricating an umbrella holder. I never really gave it a thought. Thanks for the idea and for watching! 🙂👍
@@ToTheTopCrane there's an old timer that hauls lobster trap's out of a flat bottom skiff it's yellow and he has a big yellow unbrella he stands under 8 foot one it works really well for him but he is looking down not up. Maybe you could get one of those umbrella hats 😂🤔
Tell Caleb Thank You for your service! That did not look fun. at. all. What's that truck weigh? I'd think if she started sliding, there'd be no stopping her. Glad all ended well! Thanks for the video!
Welcome to my world. It's nice when the base of the boom shoots the water right down your neck. A set of "Frog Togg" rain gear makes life suck a little less!
I've back firetruck down drives like that no fun .done at night and in snow gives a big pucker factor almost as bad as slick mud which is probably worse
I find it hard to believe they needed you to set those small beams, especially as they were at the delivery truck bed height. However, a safe and well done job! ....13
Rogue Excavating, Palfinger seems to have the knuckle boom crane market cornered. For good reason. They make an awesome knuckle boom. As far as features for setting septic systems....I would want a rear mounted crane, remote, and winch. Some of those knuckle booms don't have a winch. Which means you have to reach down into the hole. With a winch, it would be more versatile. You could even get into possibly setting trusses, small signs, etc..
they guy that does it now has a 20 palfinger said his next would be a 25. but no winch and yes that can be a pain on some of the more challenging picks I was not aware you could get a winch on a knuckle I was leaning toward a behind the cab setup with a sliding tilting deck so I could load and haul my machines around. Make it more of a multi purpose truck. you said rear mounted what would I lose capacity maneuverability wise etc by going cab mount? im crane stupid lol
@@rogueexcavating3839, I believe they have an option to mount a winch on the tip. So, it gives you hoisting capabilities. Having a rear mounted crane puts the crane closer to the hole without putting the truck in the hole. It also give you the ability to back right up to something for more capacity (since the load is closer to the center of the crane). You could still haul your equipment. Just put lifting lugs on your equipment and set it on with the crane. 🙂👍
For setting tanks, having the ability to back up to the hole and set the tanks would be paramount. Setting a tank with a center mount would take a very large center mount crane. The farther the load gets from the center of the crane, the more you lose capacity.
Yep. Driving down a pig path, standing in the rain, and playing in the mud. This is my life. Only thing you forgot to do was sink down to axle in that mud. By the way those levers seem uncomfortably far apart.
Dustin Finley, I'm glad I didn't sink down to the axle. That would've made an already messy day, even worse. Those levers are kinda far apart. But, manageable. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
That road was terrible. I'm just glad that I didn't have to take a big crane up there. And you Sir are correct...I wouldn't be backing up. Lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
To The Top Crane I was tossing around turning one of these boom trucks into a service truck at one time. A real service truck is a better idea though. I had spec’d a 16,000lb boom with a little over 30’ of stick. I thought if everyone is putting cranes half that size on a class 7 truck then my overkill should be sufficient for the next 10-20 years that I’d own the truck.
Michael Owen, you must have a crystal ball! This crane is a stand on crane. I'll get some footage of it at some point. I just wasn't too concerned with recording too much today, given the weather. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
Ran a 2284 mounted on a Mack DM600 chassis, 21 ft flatbed... Worked from downtown Richmond Va to a radius of a little over 50 miles... put it in some crazy places.. towed in and out with dozers... was running it one day setting trusses on a house.. had to climb in quick when a young black bear decided to investigate... Top heavy... long... topped out at 62 mile an hour...
That didn’t look like any fun at all! 😒 that’s nerve wracking too thinking you will be sliding sideways down a hill in a truck like that. You did great thanks for sharing! Now go dry off lol
Elite Earthworks LLC, sliding sideways would be no good. The slide typically isn't as bad as the stop. Kind of like falling. The fall isn't bad. The sudden stop at the bottom is. Lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
I OPERATE THE CRANE RENTAL YARD 30t BOOM TRUCK AN I DID A JOB FOR A STEEL COMPANY IT STARTED POURING RAIN THE IRON WORKERS STOPPED UNTIL STORM PASSED BY THE THE FOREMAN MADE THEM GO BACK TO WORK THE IRON WORKERS WAS PISSED
Doug Smith, yeah...it wasn't much fun today. However, if it weren't for the crappy days, we wouldn't appreciate the easy days as much. Thanks for watching! 🙂👍
That job-site looks like just another day up here, but It makes for a long day when the tag-line guy thinks he moves/controls the load. the best "tag-line operators" are female!
