Little bit over everything in this one. We finish running our local from Huntington Beach and then run the hauler from 'staging' into the yard.

Rick, Just a fun thought... Complete the new section as 1967 Southern Pacific with appropriate signage, autos and industries. Your viewers as well as yourself could experience both now and then, UP & SP. If the SP should win your favor at some point, the rest of the layout could easily be retrofitted. Phil in Georgia

I put magnet and a screw on the load for the center beam. Just cut the pin shorter and glue on the magnet. The pin socket side gets the screw and can be adjusted so the the load sits right.

Rick, You had my hopes up watching SP videos that you would run the SP loco. We need to get it out soon. Also, the ski resort 😄😄right out of the yard may need to get some dirt/grass on it since spring has arrived!! Nice video as always .

Just sayin' -- JMRI keeps track of how many times each car has been used and makes sure they have equal numbers, so you don't get the same thing over and over. And the computer does all the work of rolling the dice and taking notes and stuff. What I've found is that you can also make the jobs limited enough that you don't tire yourself out with all the moves.

I've often pondered the idea of a multi era layout, where you could pick up everything from one era and plop down stuff from another. Something the size of your layout might work well for that. Especially if your "staging" project ended up being large enough for all your rolling stock. Although that might be a stretch...

Very nice layout. Did your locomotives come DCC? Yes, Resurrection Day definitely fits better. IMHO never seen a bunny lay a colored egg 🤔

[ is it a wilson thing ?? ] & Carl-- well he smells weird more days than not !I know U P Pete is new & is keen to make friends,,maybe not there,, somewhere a bit more safer. Tiddly pip.

Hey Rick.. watch my video on how I used magnets 🧲 to hold each half of wrapper lumber loads on the center beam flats.

Problem with 4k 60 fps is some cameras can overheat if you're shooting for like 30 minutes or so. I'm talking affordable cameras. Either way you'll be looking for a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. And if you're looking for a full frame camera that can get expensive real fast. Possibly in the $2500 give or take for body only. Actually I find 4k 60 fps a bit of a fad thing. People on RU-vid won't really notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps. If you want a cinematic feel you might want to go with 4k 24 fps as that's what commercial movies are shot at.

On my mess of a layout I proudly run bloody nose SD40-T2's (and other SP units of that era) along side UP ET44AC's and BNSF SD70Ace's. It's my railroad, who cares? I like 'em! Also, the original concept for my layout was for operations, using car cards. I don't do that, I just run trains! It's fun, and that's what this is about, right?

Are you going to put a view block between the yard and the new track? (where the haulers are sitting now).
@socalscalemodels
@socalscalemodels 3 месяца назад
Yes, there will be some sort of scenery to sort of block out that end.
@georgephillips5282
@georgephillips5282 3 месяца назад
Why don't you park your hauler on the main line in front of the yard. If you did that, you could run it out of the yard to the main parking, leave it there while you switch the cars the prior hauler brought into the yard. When you've sufficiently filled the yard with new cars to send out on a hauler, bring it in, swap engines and run around the layout back to the main. That's not much different than when you had your staging prior to expansion.

Been watching for quite some time. I see you use Peco turnouts. Which ones do you use? How easy is it to use slow motion switch machines?
@socalscalemodels
@socalscalemodels 2 месяца назад
I use mostly small electrofrog peco turnouts. No issues adding a switch machine, just have to remove the 'spring' in the turnout.
@musicman8942
@musicman8942 2 месяца назад
@@socalscalemodels I'd skip motorized switch machines and go with Caboose Industries ground throws. Talk about the realism factor to go with your switch locks!

Would you be interested in letting people operate a locomotive on your layout remotely? I get way to generate some revenue!
