I would like to throw in that Tim "Lint" Armstrong's guitar-tone on the Op Ivy reminds me of Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols. If the Pistols stayed together somehow with at least Steve Jones and Johnny Rotten, I think they would have had joyful similarities to Op Ivy. they both have a high energy "party" feel to their rebellion... Otherwise, it's just a similar guitar sound, although Steve and Tim do seem to play pretty differently for the most part. Also, Jesse and Tim's rudimentary rap skills are underrated. There's a hip-hop quality to some of the verses on Energy at least (or what I call 'Energy', I had the CD+7 songs or whatever it's called). I listened to Battle Hymns today for the first time in 20 years. I should have listened to Destruction, but I already know I like it. Battle Hymns I had completely forgotten until today - I can't believe I still recognized every track on that album today.

I’d love to hear you guys discuss the album Never Hungover Again by Joyce Manor. Its 10th anniversary is this July. A true classic of my generation of punk!

I'll make a note of that and see what we can get on the calendar for you! We both dont have a ton of experience with punk that new, but i know Joyce Manor if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching!

I think the Mighty Mighty Bosstones may be more responsible for Reel Big Fish, lol. That's no disrespect on the Bosstones. I love those guys ✊️

Bosstones were almost a hardcore band with horns, their older stuff is super heavy

@thepunkrockreview True but Reel Big Fish came around right after they went in a more pop direction.

Omg…Battle Hymns is fabulous! Yes, the next 2 were different, but still some great tracks. The. A Match and Some Gasoline and War Profiteering were back to phenomenal! And Jay is so fun at shows involving the crowd. I’m sorry, but I def take the Suicide Machines over Op Ivy, and don’t worry, I’m older than you guys lol! They are probably my 2nd favorite band, and I’ve seen them many times. Even the new record is great and they are touring again and working on new music. You guys should have kept following them. The podcast was great great!

I still follow SM, I have their latest album. I'm trying to get them on the podcast, too, but the lady at Fat is so hard to work with, so we'll see

Operation Ivy it’s definitely one of a kinda, it’s really hard to compare anything to them. Only one I can think about it that it resembles OpIvy a little bit it’sSlapstick

Punks have changed generationally according to their parents. They used to be angry greasers, then they were angry hippies. Now the kids of thrash/ grunge era kids are the new punks.

I guess. I've known punk of all ages and we all seemed mostly the same to me. Minor differences I guess, but overall the same

Gotta humbly disagree w/ you boss, ...the heir to Op Ivy is Less Than Jake, the official 2nd greatest ska punk band. Hahaha, I just think they are WAY better IMHO than Suicide Machines
@thepunkrockreview
@thepunkrockreview 2 месяца назад
Well, I have stated many times that LTJ is the best Ska Punk band, but they're not the heir to OP IVY, they're nothing like them. They are great, but Op Ivy and SM are very similar, LTJ is in a different lane completely. It's just not the same stuff. LTJ has 2 perfect albums tho, but I don't listen to anything outside Losing Streak and Hello Rockview. Op Ivy and Suicide Machines are punk bands, and like you said, LTJ is a ska-punk band. I feel like they're even more a pop punk band with some ska. Very different then Op Ivy and SM imo. But I mean, whatever, lol, listen to what makes you stoked, right? 👊😎🏴‍☠️
