I was at this concert. Travelled to Lonon from Bristol when I was a student. I walked to the Albert Hall in the afternoon to see what was going on, and when I walked round the bakc, Mikael came out for a cigarette. I actually couldn't believe my luck. I chatted casually to him for about 2 minutes. Got a photo, wished him all the best and then we parted. Great memory.
@@CristianHernandez-tr1jq I could, but it's just a random 21 year old standing next to Akerfeldt. Not sure it's particularly interesting to anyone else to be honest.
When I saw Protest the Hero in Guelph, Ontario back in 2014 I got to the venue early and Rody Walker (lead singer) just happened to be out having a smoke. We talked for a bit, took a photo and went our ways. I know exactly how you must have felt lol
That moment when you watch a video of a heavenly, perfect song performed flawlessly live by the best metal band in the world and you know you’re done listening to music for the day as you won’t find anything nearly as good as this. Bye.
Try Haken, Igorrr or Jinjer, maybe Spiritbox, Native Construct... There's a lot of good shit around. If you're into prog try Crystallized by Haken; it's 18 min. masterpiece - my favorite song!
Mikael is a legend!!:)Check his interviews, such a good sense of humor!!Like most Metalheads, we don't take shit too seriously and just have a good time!!\m/!!
Watershed was awesome an important transition, but Ghost Reveries is Opeth's finest modern metal album in my opinion. Sounds fantastic, and the parts are so inspired
I agree. I put Ghost Reveries above Blackwater Park even. It's my favorite album of theirs. I used to not like Watershed much but each time I listen to it, it gets better and better. I love it now.
Rohann van Rensburg It’s not to cover mistakes. They don’t make mistakes. Noticeable ones anyway. I’ve got a lot of dvds of bands and they all do that. Smart bastards.
My first concert was an Opeth's concert, they've come 2 times to my country, first time I was in V.I.P, right in front of Martin the whole show, when they were playing The Grand Conjuration, in one part of the song when Martin is doing the Slap technique I was the only person in front of the stage pointing him with my hand while doing the ol' devil horns sign, i was moving my arm up and down to point him every beat that he slaps the strings, almost immediately he looked at me with a badass face and made an approval gesture with the head, im blessed since that day...
Saw them live in India back in 2012 , i am sure they might have been jet lagged with the long ass flight but god almighty their playing was superb. Undoubtedly the best band i have seen live. Dare i say better than the studio version.
The fact that they are not shortening the outro means that every single note written is important and part of the song. This band is just the perfect synergy of raw talent, technicality, the perfect vocals (growling and singing) and hugely creative songwriting!
Oh man. I remember when I first bought this digipak of this album that included the making of DVD. I didn't listen to anything else for 2 or 3 months solid. Everyone in my life was forced to listen to it. Such a good album. And this song and Hours of Wealth especially I played often. But this song especially is just so perfect. It's an example of every single beautiful thing a metal song can be. An epic memorable intro, hooky catchy verses, intricate and talented guitar riffs, soulful drums, subtle keyboards, feelings, emotion, depth, anger, rage. It's the only song that could have a catchy, almost radio rock part, that goes into a black/death metal verse, into an instrumental beauty, into prog metal, into an ending you don't want to stop. It's just perfect. It's my prime example to anyone who doesn't understand what good metal is. 🤟🏻😁 #Opeth #GhostReveries #HarlequinForest
Exquisite. I don't think I've ever heard a more beautifully composed piece of music in my life. Opeth's music is a journey. If you are willing to go on that journey you will find some beautiful things there, I promise. 🤘🏻
I left a comment on here years ago. I always come back to this performance. I think this is one of their best ever live shows. The vocals are absolutely spot on.
I’ve always pictured a forest with harlequins instead of trees. Giant inmobile frightening clown trees with large feet for roots and a forage made from their hats, so dense it blocks the skies.
If this man was not a musical genious he would a stand up comedian I swear, its like he reads the audience like a book and responds like he would tell a story to his children for a bedtime
Whats with the dislikes?? It's like stomping on a blooming flower!!People will always disappoint but at least the majority here can appreciate Opeths work!!!\m/!!
@@petegrusky2715 YO ..whAT T FK does that even mean?! “ If you call a 1/2mill, a majority, then he must live in 2000BC”?.. He text “ At least the ‘MAJORITY HERE’( as majority on this page) can appreciate Opeths work”.. Soo It’s up to 8.9 ThousaND Likes… Soo, what year would he live in now? ..smh.
God I love this band. They're immensely talented. It's astonishing that they aren't that well known while talentless hacks are household names. Opeth should be far more known and successful than the likes of Cardi B, the Kardashians and whatnot.
Yah, Opeth should be a household name, but they're way too advanced for the masses. Opeth isn't something you can listen to with one ear. You have to invest time and multiple sittings to just get into an album. But once you get over the threshold, their music just grows and grows. The masses, even the metal masses, don't have the inclination to invest more than two minutes if they're not "fed". Opeth is one of a kind. People have recommended stuff they think I'll like because of Opeth, but it's all garbage compared to them. Must've listened to GR well over 2000 times, I NEVER tire of it. The sign of a truly great band is that the first time you listen to a record is the worst, because you actually have to learn it to truly appreciate it. Same with In Cauda Venenum. It didn't sit right with me the first time. But I'm never giving up on Opeth, so I gave it another go and it opened up. Masterpiece.
I think its because of the growling. It takes time to get used to it and to understand the beauty of it. Music that you have to actively listen to to understand gets rejectet by the majority of people
Indeed. It's sad isn't it? They're immensely talented and yet they'll never be as successful, as well known, or as revered as the likes of Cardi B, and all the other talentless hacks that don't even deserve so much as to be mentioned in the same breathe as Opeth.
"I'd like to thank Jethro Tull for not putting out an album this year", says Lars while accepting an award for the Black album. Perhaps they should have...
i saw this tour in Los Angeles at the Wiltern a few days after this, the end of this song in particular was so loud and heavy in the venue. it was exquisite.
