Good for Mikael. He did what made him happy and stayed true to himself, rather than do something to please the fans to make money.

Black Phillip Nah man, everyone who really loves Opeth knows that. Mikael has even called the band (ironically, but still) "the Martin Mendez band" at times

This man is way more intelligent and gifted and hard working than people know. Or maybe they do but he’s beyond genius - Top 3 greatest song writers and musicians in the music business right now

Heritage is actually the first album I heard from Opeth and what got me into the band. I love that album and that's coming from someone who's favorite Opeth album is Orchid.

I'm old enough to have enjoyed listening to Opeth since their first album (Orchid), and I have to say, it's been a fantastic journey so far. Seeing them up to Pale Communion thus far, seems like a natural evolvement , knowing Åkerfeldt through interviews and such. Can't wait for their next release!

I wonder if he has listened to Ne Obliviscaris. Pretty unique for a death metal band.

I don't wanna be rude, but I think that band sounds pretty mediocre. I can hear that they were inspired by Opeth, but they have no talent Mikael has , to create unique music, they riffs are quite simple, annoying blast beats, nothing catchy. When I've been listeting to them I had a feeling that I've heard all that shit before, nothing new at all. And I'm not a fan of that type of clean vocals. But as for Mikael, I'm not rly sure if he's still listening to modern metal bands, he's more in 60s 70s , and I uderstand him, those old bands have done very interesting music.

Mikael has said he doesn't like progressive death metal. Death metal died for him in 1995. He only likes classic dm that came before and has no interest in any dm after that.

...Moving away from Black Metal?
@MetaliBlack666
@MetaliBlack666 7 лет назад
His early vocals (Orchid, Morningrise, MA, YH) had a kind of black metal shriek to them. Then changed to a more death metal growl from Still Life onwards. So I can see why it says "moving away from black metal" even though I do consider them to be overall more death metal.

I love Opeth but these last 2 albums are iffy.....I wish they would of went more like the "Damnation" album if they were gonna stop death metal
@armane374
@armane374 6 лет назад
damnation was not actually a whole album, it was a half with Deliverance, so all songs from Damnation are ballads. Not sure if ppl will like album of ballads only.

Mikael should have called it quits with Opeth and used a different band name instead of runing their legacy as an amazing prog metal mand.

+Adam Renske yeah... glad he didnt Opeth is such a cool name for a band :)
@pane36

He's not ruining their legacy, he's building it. Great tales of triumph have their trying times as well, and the story of Opeth is no different. I'm not saying their softer music is bad, but it's all part of the collective Opeth experience. I haven't grown to love Pale Communion yet, but I'm going to keep on trying just because the band believes so strongly in the musicianship at work in their more progressive tracks.
