These kids don't belong with regular Kids in class. I know of one quote "special needs" kid. He yells and gets violent. When this happens all the kids are taught to get up, and walk out of the room. Then they have to wait till the temper tantrum is over. It takes learning time from the normal kids. The mom won't put kid in special class and uses every rule and law to here advantage. It just comes down to selfishness.
Can you imagine how many times during the interview that woman wanted to lean over and yell "WILL YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP FOR ONE SECOND?!!!" to her blithering child? There is a fine line between patience and just completely denying your basic human feelings of annoyance and frustration. As Ant says often, people are so quick to disregard their humanity and honesty in these situations.
The mother says it's not fair to her kid that he got voted out of class... but was it fair for her to burden the whole class with her troublesome kid? How can the other kids learn properly with this lunatic spinning around, eating crayons, and hiding under the table? And those are just the things the mother admits he does... I'm sure he does more that she won't share on the news.
They talked over the part where the teacher made him stand at the front of the class and had the class tell him all the things they hated about him. I'm not saying autistic kids can't get annoying every now and then, but that probably wasn't the best way to handle it.

I bet we're not getting the whole story. I bet the teacher tried to speak to the mother and said mother ignored her to the point where she needed to do something drastic. Now Mommy is sad and angry that her little angel is upset. It's just like the 'Retards in Area' story. You hear all about how innocent the kid is while you get nothing on how much damage they actually do and how the parents ignore it.
What Mommy-dearest should do is repremand Alex when he does something wrong instead of simply pitying him and patting his head while lulling 'Your a good boy.' I'll say this: Even Animals know not to stick their noses in places that will cause them pain. All Alex needs is guidence. He also needs to be tought right from wrong as well as the result of doing something wrong. But then, that's asking a lot. Alex could set the family Dog on fire and mommy would simply tell him 'Don't do that.'
This reminds me of a kid I went to school with. Every day he'd end up in the principals office but at least his outbursts were usually funny. We'd be trying to learn french and he'd stand up and start doing sign language saying every letter over and over again. Made the poor teachers lives hell. Sure enough as soon as he was taken off ritalin he was totally calm and normal. They only waited till he was almost done high school to do it lol.
It's easy to condemn the teacher, but I wonder what this kid finally did to push her in to doing something like this? I work with kids too, and there have been times when the frustration isn't so much about what they've done to themselves, but what they've screwed up for the other, better behaved kids in the rest of the group. If he was ruining it for everyone else with his pretend disease AKA "I never got told No by mommy" then maybe the poor teacher finally lost it.
We ended up kicking the shit out of a kid with aspergers back in grade 8 not because he's mentally disabled but the fact he was smart enough and well aware of the special treatment he gets and purposely does bullshit without consequence. He was almost 6 feet tall and 180lbs but he got put in his place when everybody was fed up with his antics.
If I was in that kid's class, I'd be stoked. I wouldn't even be paying attention to the teacher, I'd be asking Alex, "What is it, man? Is Timmy trapped down a well?"
But Asperger's falls under the broader Autism definition, i.e. it's part of ASD. Thing is, some medical experts aren't even convinced Asperger's really exists and blame it on nurture rather than nature. The question has to be asked, is it a genuine condition or a symptom of parents who love their kids so much that they refuse to ever tell them 'NO' for anything?

If this kid is a special needs kid, Then if this is a public school they shouldnt have to deal with this type of behavioral issue? Thats why they have special needs teachers.
I wonder if this was a plot for him to push the limits of the teacher and class so his mom could sue the education system and get a lot of money. A lot of people get rich from things like that.
When I think of autism, I think of Dustin Hoffman's character in Rain Man. Dysfunctional. I don't know why they put Asperger's Syndrome in the same category. Asperger's Syndrome is also known as a "nerd disease". Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory has it. People with Asperger's are nerdy and awkward but not mentally disabled.

Looked up the story. Alex got $350k in a legal settlement. He got $200k instantly and will receive the rest in smaller payments after he turns 18. The teacher was suspended from teaching for 1 year without pay.
As a kindergarten teacher myself, just to throw my two sense in, what the teacher did was over the line, but more stupidly, just ineffective. The kids wouldn’t learn anything from it. The kid is going to be right back the next day, they’re not going to give him a bag and send him to live the hobo life on a train, so it undercuts their management of the class and the workflow. It’s was a pointless activity. A more meaningful activity would be to teach the kids to use affirmative emotion statements like, “Alex, when you eat the crayons I can’t color my picture and that makes me sad. Would you like it if someone ate you’re crayons?” Or honestly give the kid his own designated crayons that just he uses, and if he eats the blue, then he’ll have to go the rest of the day without blue. Then talk to him about how it makes him feel to not have blue anymore to complete his work. Someone can have challenges with emotions but still understand cause and effect. Should we shield him from possible growing moments- no, should we also teach the peers to constructively share their feelings- absolutely. My initial guess is that he may have been placed in a traditional classroom that lines up 22 or more kids with one lonely teacher and honestly he seems like a smaller inclusion classroom would best fit his needs because he does have needs that differs from other children. That comes down to administrators and parents signing off on a class transfer that they rarely think they need to do because that’s more work for them . There is absolutely nothing wrong with finding the right learning environment and putting your kid in that environment as opposed to the other so hey can actually succeed. That should be the whole point- with all this happening I’m sure his learning is weeks behind where it could be.
People with Aspergers can be helped. But if the kid is disruptive, he needs to be in special ed, where the teacher is trained to deal with that, and the kids have their own problems to contend with. Honestly, people with Aspergers are very capable(unlike someone severly autisitc), but as people, they are enraging to deal with. If you're not gonna abort the lil fella, atleast do right by it and get it the proper education.
Dustin Hoffman's character was an idiot-savant, that is a more serious affliction on the autism spectrum and isn't regarded as a specific mental disability. Asperger's syndrome isn't just "nerd disease", it's a slightly more high-functioning affliction on the same spectrum. There are different degrees of autistic disorders, they all make it hard to deal with the world, and they are more serious than the clownish way Sheldon Cooper depicts it on television.
@anonUK If it entails the correct definition of retardation is irrelevant. More often than not they're a burden to society and contribute little to nothing. Also more often than not you will get cases such as this example, where the kid is a massive distraction to the rest of the children and is impairing the rest of their ability to learn because he's bothering everyone. Yes it's a terrible thing for me to say I know, but the truth isn't always a pleasant thing to know.
@Panasper Great point, lets not lie to children, and tell them their special when they havent' worked for it or done anything to be special. They have to work hard to get what need to be special or unique. Others wise they feel so deserving for nothing, and the world wont put up with that.

If someone can't act the way they should, they should either deal with it themselves and not make people suffer for their stupid illness, or sit alone in their house for the rest of their days. I'm kind of leaning toward the latter.
theclarkhome, it's strange, because Asperger's Syndrome was first described around the 1960's, before there was the 'computer crisis'. It was described before pharmo companies could make a buck off of it. And there is a genral consensus in the medical community that says this condition does exist. Leave the theory-making to the doctors.
