[INTO THE FOLD EPISODE 11]
For the few short years that foldable phones have existed, we’ve basically been given two weapons of choice: the full-format folding book, or the clamshell-style flip phone. Huawei or Motorola; Xiaomi or TCL; Samsung ... or Samsung. As Mr. Slim says: you can blow with this, or you can blow with that.
Well, it was only a matter of time before someone came along with the best of both worlds: a foldable that would deliver the utility of the tablet … inside the compact footprint of the clamshell. I’m Michael Fisher; join me for your first look at Oppo’s first foldable, the Oppo Find N!

That folding hinge is definitely a direct shot at someone's complaint about the hinge making the display too concave. I refuse to believe anything else otherwise.

The Find N honestly looks to me like a more sensible Book-Style Foldable. The Clamshells are still their own form-factor and one I'd not want to love without anymore, mostly because of how small it fits in my pocket
@Errcyco
@Errcyco 2 года назад
It’s neat, who’s gonna buy one though? Atleast in America you can’t get it on a carrier so you have to buy it full price all at once. That’s a huge caveat for the Chinese brands, who’s sub-$300 phones have a huge chunk of the market. If people here are gonna spend $1k though they tend to goto Apple or Samsung because they are the big guys. Just gonna be interesting to see how many people get these.. I’ll bet a handful of reviewers and that’s about it lol.
@Chickenbreadlp
@Chickenbreadlp 2 года назад
@@Errcyco I never said that it's the one-all-be-all Foldable. Like I said, I see the bigger benefit in Clamshell Smartphones then in Foldables (after all, if I want something with a larger screen, I usually want something larger then what a foldable offers) And I should mention that my current phone *is* the Samsung Z Flip 3. Wouldn't wanna live without it...

Outer display could have been 6-6.5" with similar aspect ratio as it now then inner display eventually got bigger in size and providing more estate to work within. Instead of 7" it would be much nicer to have 8" or bigger one.

This is a promising device. I wouldn't surprise that Oppo will go mainstream with this series. It's a great one what addresses all the common complaints of the folded phones released before it. Good job Oppo! Hopefully Oppo brings back the original Oxygen OS.

In this the outer display is the main display where you do most of your work and then jump to bigger inside display for specific tasks like gaming or media consumption. With fold 3, if you want to do any quick stuff you use that outside screen which serves as secondary display but for most of your work you have to use bigger inside display.

I've never had a problem with my fold3's aspect ratio. I know it comes with the foldable territory but if somehow they could make the phone lighter, that would be a game changer for me. This thing shows EXACTLY what I said the whole time about the Fold: fold it on the short side, not the long one! You get a more natural form factor when closed and the tablet style is in landscape mode when you open it. It's just SO much more intelligent than the Fold design. Stuff like the rounded corners of the screen not matching the rounded corners of the chassis look ridiculously bad but that's only thanks to Oppo not to care about important details. In tablet mode, the Fold 3 really looks a billion times better than this complete mess Oppo did here.
@npcimknot958

@Raja995mh33
@Raja995mh33 2 года назад
@@npcimknot958 Yeah but I guess you're a minority with that ^^ I guess most people, that are interested in a Foldable in the first place, would prefer to have a normal sized phone when closed and a small tablet when open. The biggest problem with Foldables imo is still the thickness tho. When in "Smartphone mode" it's twice as thick as a normal phone. And there are reasons why not a single normal Smartphone on the market is thicker than 10mm - let alone 15-18mm.
@vipul_chauhan9384

You're blind as hell. Tablet mode for ALL foldable phones in existence have garbage aspect ratios. The only things that the Oppo Find N DESTROYS Samsung in is with price and the vastly superior outer 18:9 aspect ratio. We need Bi-Folds aka Dual-Foldable phones to come out to solve the inner aspect ratio problem that all foldables still have.

@RecklessTurtle
@RecklessTurtle 2 года назад
Personally, there are too many cons on any foldable, including the SW. I assume until Google makes its own foldable, the SW aspect will never get properly fixed. Even though Google is prepping Android for foldable support, I don't expect it to run hick-up free on Android devices any time soon. That is the natural outcome of the Android eco-system. Everyone is "almost" free to do whatever they want with their HW and apps/underlying OS doesn't always agree with said decisions...

The pixel fold is rumoured heavily and data mining for the current Android version shows a compatibility with a codenamed device. Either a new Google Pixel laptop, tablet, or a foldable. Though the thickness has me wary, if it weren’t for the lack of US support, this would be an interesting phone to try. I kinda dig the shorter, beefier aspect ratio of the entire thing. But you do bring up a good point on OnePlus and if it’ll slap it’s name on this device. But with the recent rage I’ve seen against OnePlus, maybe it won’t be as successful as it could if it did.

I'm still a bit surprised how usable I find the narrower screen on my Fold 3. Answering messages, chatting, no problem. After a day or two getting used to the keyboard I don't really misstype any more than I would on a standard phone. Would I write a novel on it? No. But fine for shorter stuff. Also, reading the news headlines, checking social media and even watching some quick youtube video. Just fine. I think Samsung has something with that form factor. S-pen support for both screens would be very nice when needing to quickly write something down. I also hope they will have a cover with that very, no pun intended, handy fingerstrap.
