Couldn't agree more. I think everyone loves zoom cameras. Once you experience it, you can't go back to having a phone without a periscope lens! I'm keeping my S21U for the time being and never "upgrading" to a phone that doesn't have at least 5x zoom.
Device do looks interesting and with their own chipset release, it gets more interesting. Thank you for the video and great comparison with the rivals, sounds fair and informative.
I just bought oppo find x3 pro for 4700 yuan in China. Feels like I made the right choice as this review of oppo find x5 pro is 95% applicable to oppo find x3 model + my phone still has the microscope

Beautiful but for THAT price it needs a zoom lense. Costs more than an s22 ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max. Oppo really doesn’t have the standing here for that.
I just cancelled my pre order of S22 Ultra. Going to get this instead, however not new, will wait a few months. Oppo depreciates very fast. My Find X2 pro is still rocking, so no hurry 🤣

Very sad that Oppo gave up on periscope. Personally, no periscope = no buy. I hope that the rumors about the Oneplus 10 Ultra are true because apparently that one will have a proper 5x periscope. Fingers crossed! Anyway, very good video Ben.

ill check this one in the store i barely use zoom lenses i can live with 2 or 3x zoom, an epic main and beautiful wide angle that's all we need..oh plus batt life and beautiful smooth screen
Great video, always liked the Find X series. Would be great to see how this compares to the next Vivo series release, whatever that is (Nex/X80/X Note). The X70 Pro+ was good, but with a new phone coming out, which will be the second series with it's own image processing chip, would be good to see how it compared camera wise. Vivo might give it a better zoom than the X5 Pro too :-)
Great review, I personally love my s22 ultra and always stuck with galaxy phones typically but this phone looks fantastic. One thing I do want to add though - when you were talking about the 3 finger gesture to swipe down and grab a screenshot. Samsungs One Ui has a similar feature where you can sipde your hand to the left and take a screen grab. They are probably equally easy gestures.
Very good review to the truth.As for the camera ,this phone I* just a hype ,w many limitation ,who will remember what mode on what settings be good .... Wish phone company can bring back Xeon flash & variable f stop instead of just one fix f stop.Like the Nokia once was .
you know... these OEMs custom skin on top of android have many useful things yet google pure android kinda run out of idea what new features to bring up to the table, that single swipe and hold to get you floating window is damn smart gesture other OEMs don't even think about 😲
Hi, just start to say that your reviews are great! One question, have you found lens flare and light artifacts to happen a lot on OPPO? I have mine for a week and its insane the amount of times the photos for ruined due to street lights flare/halos and light spots.
lens flare and Ghosting are common for all smartphones(except Vivo X80 Pro as they use special anti-reflective glass for their lens). It's not just with oppo, it's with Samsung and apple too.
I'll be picking one up when it goes on sale here in the U.K.! I don't care much about the zoom. Everything else looks fabulous and what a gorgeous design!
The video quality of this smartphone is phenomenal! All my videos made during the Marcus Miller concerts are in maximum quality (4K 60 frames per second) and all in the front row! Take a look if you want to see how it looks, and if you're convinced, don't hesitate to give me a thumbs up ;-)
Come on man, they swapped out the periscope zoom for the microscope camera in the previous x3 pro, and now that one is gone too, and the optical zoom is at 2x only? Hopefully they will introduce strong zoom cameras from next year onwards with the new camera chipset. I think the camera bump this year looks better than the previous iteration, and it feels Oppo will be pushing ahead with this as they move ahead. that's what Find X series of Oppo means. Each and every sequel will be different from each other and will have a different X-factor for it. For Find X it was gradient design and pop-up, for X2 it was Vegan leather and Periscope lens, for X3 it was Microscope lens and 10-bit color, for X5 it's Marisilicon X, Ceramic and Hassleblad
I think if they put in a long-range zoom lens, this will significantly increase the cost of the device just like with most phones having 5x or 10x optical zooms (pixel 6 pro, for example) not to mention the new imaging cpu, new cam lenses used, etc. and perhaps some proprietary tech they are using for the 1st time
I just finished watching your low-light comparison video between the S22, this phone, and the Huawei P50 Pro cameras. I gotta say, while you often criticized a lot of the Oppo shots for not being clear enough or vibrant enough (compared to the S22, not on its own, you admit that on its own, it's still amazing), I found the X5's shots to consistently look more organic and more like they're actually taken on film as opposed to the clearer but often more digital photos of the S22 (in particular) and the P50 Pro. This is the first Oppo phone in a decade that's made me seriously consider buying one again, if only for the excellent quality of the cameras.
"Unfortunately, the zoom lens here is pretty weak". Seriously though, do you often use the zoom lens? I digress, I'm sure there are people who find zoom shots important. That said, I take perhaps .001% of my pictures by zooming into shots, more often just taking normal shots because I want to catch what my eyes see, not whatever thing is 250 meters away. :P
With the older version of OneUI, you used to be able to drag from the corner diagonally to open the app in pop-up view but that's been removed now. However if you use Samsung' Multi Star app under GoodLock you can enabled it again by checking "Pop-up View Action"
I really don't get why no smartphone manufacturer who only wants to have 3 lenses, choose a 4 or 5x periscope lens as 3rd lens. Especially if you have a very good main lens as in this phone it would be perfect, bc. everything up to 3/4x you would get pretty good results by digitaly zooming in on the main lens and then you have a pretty good 4/5x times photos bc it is the native zoom of the periscope lens even if it is a rather small 13 mp sensor. And even 10x photos would look pretty decent. For portraits they could also use digital zoom on the main, which wouldn't be bad. I don't think it is that important for most people to have a 2x telephoto lens for portraits. Second best solution would be to use at least 3x telephoto as the iPhone does, but then you need a very good software to get good let's say 8 to 10x zoom photos, which also shouldn't be a big problem if you have a customized separate chip for processing photos.
I've been looking forward to this phone as I was hoping it would have a consistent and good quality between the main and ultrawide. However... If the images get overprocessed by their hdr stuff... Sigh... Then the photos will just be consistently unnatural and useless. Why can't smartphone manufacturers build a camera that takes realistic photos and videos. And then let the user _choose_ to process them afterwards..
My Huawei P30 Pro New Edition with google services spoiled me with it's periscope lens. Honestly if I could've repaired the loud speaker on my p30 pro I would've used it indefinitely just because of the zoom and the expandable storage but I can't. So I bought into Oppo, it's my first time buying your products and I went all out for this find x5 pro. I am willing to overlook the zoom and no expandable storage so please be good otherwise. I will update after I get the phone and use it for a while.
Great video again! Don't care about the hair, lots of videos to do atm. Love the gestures as well and some known from OnePlus. Would you recommend one over the other (Oppo vs Vivo vs OnePlus)? I would love to see the technical details in the video as text or in the comments (CPU, Cam specs, etc.).
Hey Ben, nice review once again. I see on the website the Find x5 pro has a wide angle selfie camera up to 90 degree field of view, but can't seems to find any reviewer confirming it. Is it wider than the s22 ultra? And is this phone rear ultra wide better than the x70 pro plus?
bbk are scary, but which flagship is for you does very best in overall camera & phone as general. vivo, 1+, oppo (realme is not the race). note : edited realme is not included

@@remirec it's more durable when it comes to scratches. I didn't mean durability against brute force on that comment. However Ceramic is durable than Glass and Plastic in both sense
They have over looked not only the telephoto lens but also the selfie camera. I mean, Samsung's selfie quality is not only the great and best among androids, but it shoots at 4K as well. Oppo and I think Xiomi and also One Plus all have stuck to 32mp 1080p selfie camera. It's a bummer that thay couldn't upgrade the zoom camera. Anyway, it is a worthy camera and can be considered to buy!

It's tricky because you get more camera options with the S22 Ultra, but miss out on the software features and possibly other little hardware things. For me I'd love the s22u camera setup, but have to deal with certain Samsung things such as icons design or potentially camera processing.
my hair is also messy like that, but if you wet your hair & dry it with towel, or even better wash it with shampoo, it will make your hair not like that 00:06
I assume Oppo finds.... Eh... Sorry... They find that zoom is seldom used feature. Not a big fan of multiple camera holes like the S22 Ultra, seems off putting. The Find X5 Pro back looks neat.
I don't think so, i think they just want the vivo to be the ultimate cameraphone, differentiating brands under the BBK umbrella... oppo 2x, oneplus 3.3x, vivo 2x and 5x... otherwise their phones would be very similar
Are you kidding me? No at least 3x optical zoom? This is unacceptable from oppo, you can't downgrade the hardware like this, it was supposed to be better than the x2 which had a 5x zoom
Currently using a Find X2 Pro - having an optical 5x tele lens and 512G ram - the Find X5 Pro doesn't seem like technological progress. The lack of a state of the art tele lens is a bummer.
If it has 3X telephoto and 4k front recording + better optimization and as you told if periscope was included then definitely this will give enough tough to top flagship mobiles , But let's wait for the first' patch update maybe they can improve
Don't get why the dropped the periscope lens from the Oppo find X2 pro ...Like they have gone backwards with the zoom .Even my old One plus 8 pro has a 3x optical zoom 🤔🤔
You are fast Ben! I dont like the left corner pounch hole. And the camera pump 🤢 Its should have bigger zoom because of that big camera bump. Ben samsung alsow offer 3 finger screenshot. I dont like that
So for me, those curved corners are super slippery. You also loose screen real-estate in the corners. Wouldn't want my TV to have curved edges lol. The sharp corners on the s22 ultra (note) help the phone stay in my hand(which doesnt hurt at all) and It makes space to actually see the screen in that corner. The sharper corner also helps me not lay this heavy phone on my pinky which is much more uncomfortable than if it were "stabbing" the palm of my. It literally curved my pinky. I like that they brought back another option instead the whole line up looking alike and slippery. I couldn't stand that with my s21 ultra. Always felt like it would fall and did many time. Also you can gesture screen shot on a galaxy as well. Also curve are a propping nightmare
