Oprah, Cast React To 'The Color Purple' Trailer 

The 80s version will always be a classic but I support this new revival....great casting! Can't wait to see it❤

That trailer is so beautiful!!!!!! The expansion of Celie's physical and spiritual world just looks spectacular. Plus that cast!!! I am so excited for this!!!!!!!!

Not gonna lie, I got emotional seeing all this come full circle.

I may be a bit biased…but the way the musical was written, it “enhances” the story told in the book. The musical gives WOMEN a voice during a time (early 1900s) when they, especially black women had no voice. The musical was incredibly moving with Fantasia and I’m excited to see them expand upon the magic of the broadway production. This film will def bring in some serious bread.

I'm so happy they filmed it because I couldn't afford those Broadway tickets when it first came out, and even the revivals that went on the road were pricey. It's great to be able to have cheaper access to the musical via the movies. The cast is definitely stacked with major talent!

Seeing Fantasia on Broadway was my first time going, so I am over the moon to see her play this role on the big screen!

That was great. All my favorite actresses and singers embracing this wonderful musical film. Definitely looks like a blockbuster during the holiday season.

When Steven Spielberg Color Purple came out, i went high and low to find the book. The book is so captivating and heartfelt. Hope this movie will live to that expectations.

I cannot wait to see this new rendition of The Color Purple from the Broadway Musical. The trailer brought back so many memories to me from the first movie with Ms. Oprah and Whoopi Goldberg. This trailer was moving and emotional for me and in these moments of watching this trailer I felt SEEEN! This movie will bring in new viewers from our younger generation with the newest stars of this movie. Fantasia Barrino is a beast with her vocals. The new cast Taraji, Danielle, Halle & H.E.R, welp that says it all, this movie is definitely going to be a smash hit!

I believe, I will love every minute of the film. I love everything about the color purple. Each iteration (book, movie, 1st play, updated play and now updated movie. All distinctive in their very own way. Art at it’s best!!

This was beautiful! It had a REALLY special place in my heart. Unbeknownst to me, as a 14-15 year old in Chicago my Drama teacher sent me to try out in the 1985 Movie. I obviously didn't get it, but what a memory to have! I had never even read the book, and the part I had to recite was wild!

I am looking forward for this version. I loved the movie, loved the musical and this looks amazing. West Side Story did well and so did Dreamgirls. I cannot wait.

No hard sell at all!! These women and those other actors are all clearly qualified in more ways than just reciting words from a page. The embodiment of these roles will definitely show…music and all. 🙌🏾❤️🙌🏾

The Color Purple is and has always been legendary. Every scene song and performance was stellar. It has been one of my favorite movies since I was young. I could quote every line at one time and I probably can still remember quite a few. So what I'm saying is normally you leave perfection alone so if they're going to do this it had better add to the greatest movie of all time. You just can't out do perfection but we'll see when the time comes.

I don't think I have ever been excited about a remake like I am with this one! I loved the original and I am looking forward to this one.

I can't wait. I have teared up most of the day watching and rewatching the trailer. Here I am again watching Oprah and 'em watch the trailer. NOt much gets me out of the house on Xmas day but this might. I can't lie, I would have loved to see Heather Headley play Shug Avery in the movie though. But yeah, I have so many childhood memories around the movie, including it being the 1st movie my family watched on this new thingy called cable-- I'm really going to have to put the 1985 movie over on the side to truly enjoy this one. I really want Danielle Brooks and Colman Domingo to get Oscar nods. Domingo especially has been putting in work the last few years.

When I saw the trailer I was so excited and by the end I was in tears the only other movie previews that had me emotional was Wonder Woman, Black Panther 1&2 and Woman King

Off the top of my head, just a couple of other examples of movies turned into Broadway musicals which were later turned into musical films: "Hairspray" and "The Producers" + the live TV special "A Christmas Story" kind of counts.

There have been a number of movie to musical to movie musical adaptations. This one looks so great though. It's one of the most powerful scores in recent years. Can't wait to hear this cast sing it.

Not a hard sell for colorful people that know breaking into colorful song breaks the black and white of daily life. The color of song drives out the gray and shine beautiful bold colors and light into our daily lives. So we will accept, celebrate, sing, dance, roar and shine on IN LIVING COLOR!

I'm so happy for everyone in this production, I'm the 1985 color purple moma I know with this cast y'all gonna make make me proud ! I read the book and it went more into detail with the characters but the original movie was great also. Can't wait!

You are right.. it’s a hard sell to fans of the film but so was the play. I’m definitely going to give it a whole chance and not hold on my childhood memory of the original playing over and over and over again by my mom on the VCR lol

I loved the movie, and I loved the play. I'm sure I'll love the remake adaptation of the play.

I was thinking of the same thing, that it would be hard to watch the new characters. I raised my children on the 1985 movie and own it to this day; NOTHING can replace it. But, it’s not a remake of that movie. I’ll enjoy it for the musical it is. It’s a musical of the theatrical performance and it’s another take on the story. Just enjoy it for that because with singers such as Fantasia and H.E.R. You can’t help but enjoy it. My advice, don’t compare it.
