Chopped and steamed kale and spinach. Wild rice seasoned with stone ground mustard. Black beans and lentils seasoned with cumin. Fire roasted corn and fire roasted tomatoes seasoned with a touch of chili powder and smoked paprika. My sauce I make is diced tomatoes, diced onion, diced carrots, diced celery, black beans with green za'atar cooked until very soft. fruit would be cubed apple sautéed in water until soft and then slightly seasoned with a touch of cinnamon. Somewhere in there I would add some purple sweet potatoes, just because. I would first cook up a variety of the beans/proteins, a variety of veggies, a variety of whole grains and a variety of sauces and any fruit that need softening. That way I can change my options at anytime and it won't get boring and can also mix it up.

My favourite bowl dish is the Indonesian gado-gado. It has blanched cabbage, bean sprouts, long beans as the vegetable base, chunky cooked potatoes and rice cake as the grains and starch portion, cooked tofu and tempeh as the plant-based protein source. The sauce is a peanut based sauce. Usually, there is a hardboiled egg but you can omit it, no problem. Have a try. All the best ...

Especially for folks wanting to lose or maintain weight, I'd ask that you include instructions for water/broth sautéing, and making sauces/dressings without oil. Oil is so calorie dense/nutrition lacking. I've almost completely eliminated oil (not fat, I still eat avocado, tahini, nuts). I've lost 13 lbs pretty effortlessly.

@theplantbasedteacher 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing! Yes any of these can be cooked in 1/3c of water in a saute pan and either satueed that way or steamed. When using oil, I use extra virgin olive oil for the health benefits. I recommend keeping it to no more than 1tbsp per serving to get the health benefits without adding too many calories! I'll keep this in mind for next time, thanks for the idea and for commenting ☺

For tofu think of it as a neutral base that takes on the flavors in the dish. Buy firm or extra firm. Drain water. Rinse in fresh water. Lay tofu in a block on an inverted dish. Put a plate on top. Put a can or 2 on top of the plate. Let it set 10 minutes. Excess water will come out. Some people just microwave the block a minute or so. Cut into cubes. If you want a meaty texture freeze the cubes then dethaw and use. I marinate my tofu in sauce overnight to increase taste but you don't have to. Tofu is fabulous.

@theplantbasedteacher
@theplantbasedteacher 9 месяцев назад
That sounds super good! And for the amount of protein, I usually try to make each bowl last about 4 days for the sake of meal prep. So for the one I made in the video, I ate 1/2 pack of tofu per meal and about 1/4 can of the beans. Personally, I'd recommend a higher portion of a low-calorie protein option if you're using it (tofu, tempeh, seitan) since that's a great bang for your buck. Hope this helps. And I'm so happy my videos have helped you! Appreciate you being part of our community 👍🏻☺

I don't think I have favorite combination for my bowls. I've probably never made the same exact bowl twice. Their customizability is what's so awesome about them. But I have a tip. Prepare 2 or 3 proteins and sauté some veggies on the weekend, keep a few nuts and seeds and fruits and beans and greens on hand and then each time you want to make a bowl, mix and match. I can see the efficiency of making the same bowls for the whole week, but I'd get bored with that. Plus, often I don't do a bowl, but wrap up the ingredients in a flour tortilla or top toast with some of them. I can share my favorite homemade sauce: dijon mustard, maple syrup, and olive oil.

All items besides the chicken are organic. Take a anchor glass bowl and put in a nice size potato, either russet or yellow. Microwave for 2 mins on each side. Smash it up. Then take the bowl and put in 1/2 cup of black lentils or black beans. I like a little bit of chicken so i put in 1.5 ounces of rotisserie chicken. Then put in a half cup of corn from a can, then put in 85g of frozen peas. Microwave for 1-2 mins to thaw out the peas. Mix together. Then grab a handful of arugala or a half cup of raw brocolli. Put in 1 clove of chopped garlic or half an onion. Then drizzle some organic balsamic vinegar on top (ingredients should not have any oil, i like the full circle market brand). Done. I know its not plant based to put in chicken, but i am greatly reducing my animal meat intake, adding a tiny bit to my meal is helping me eventually take the next step. I did this with diary and im finally off all dairy.

No offense, Peter. This spring, after eating mostly vegetables including greens, whole grains, plant-based proteins, vegetables, and fruit, I experienced joint pain, exhaustion, digestion issues, and many other problems. I did a celery and spinach cleanse, and it got worse. I discovered I was suffering from eating WAY too much spinach and had oxalate poisoning. I'm a carnivore (elimination diet) now, releasing oxalates and I have energy, no pain, and feeling so much better! PLEASE if you are going to advocate for plant-based eating, educate people about oxalates, phytates, lectins, and the fact that fiber blocks the absorption of nutrients and bonds with those nutrients. I love that you advocate for conscious eating. We are on the same path, but I have discovered real health lies in our ancestral diet which is animal-based.
