I just used this video as ps3 phat that I had purchased said it could not play a blu ray. after making the adjustments it now plays blu rays and the picture and sound through my AV home cinema system is fantastic!! many thanks!!!
still useful...for the first time i play bluray after 10yrs of PS3 but never played any game....tried to play Bluray movie...initially didnot work but your guidance its working thanks a lot
If you set the HDMI Black Level to "Normal" within your Samsung TV, you should set the RGB Full Range to "Full" on your PS3. For everything else, just follow the video :)
I find it varies from game to game. Each of the consoles has it's pros and cons, and when a game that I'm interested in comes out for both 360 & PS3 it takes a lot of research to figure out which console I'll go with. The 360 does get preferred treatment from many developers though due to it's higher market share. (more labor hours = more optimized, less bugs) 360 has a better online experience but i hate MS points. Why do i have to spend $20 to buy a $15 DLC?!?! Oh well.
Dude... It all depends on your TV accepts colour information, as stated in the video. If you choose Full while your TV is expecting Limited, you're going to clip the blacks, and whites, thereby losing detail in those regions... Adjust your Contrast and Brightness according to a test pattern (such as the THX patterns included on certain features), and just generally read up on how TV calibration is done! Your eyes will thank you!
Step 1: Realize that Blu-ray is HD, and watching it on an standard def TV would be useless. Step 2: Save around $10 and get the DVD instead. Step 3... THERE'S NO STEP 3!
For BD - Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) It showed one Bitstream for him. But I tried it and there is two Bitstreams mix and direct. So which one do I pick?
Can you believe PS3 turns 10 this year. I was like in 5th grade and I remember my cousins boyfriend camped outside BestBuy to get one. I got mine Black Friday 2013 so I'm still catching up...
coool thanks bud, i just got my ps3 fat from craigs list. heard too many bad things about the ps3 slim, like cheaper chipset, laser, over heating problems, etc, plus no power off switch in the back so its sucking power constantly even when off. i could've bought one brand new but after research on youtube and on the internet, the ps3 fat seemed like the best choice in terms of reliability.
@BigKane23 blu-ray disc's only operate with 24 pictures a/sec, thats why you get the best performance if you have a 120hz tv, because it wil display every picture 5 times before moving on to the next, with a normal 60hz tv, you cant divide it equally to every picture, hence the picture quality can look like its "jagging". But for games and other stuff, the ps3 auto switch to the amount of hz your tv can handdle fore example 60hz...
It doesn't have to cost an arm & a leg to build a PC better than the PS3. And not every type of media plays on the PS3 and browsing the web is limited on it. Nothing beats PC. It's worth the investment. If you got a powerful computer to run recent games, it's enough to edit videos on it.
@CripsterBunny the black bars means that everything is ok, there is nothing to be fixed, what happens is that on fullscreen you dont see the black bars but the sides of the pictures get cut off so you se like 2/3 of the whole picture so that it fits on the screen. on widescreen the bars appear and apparently cut the picture, but no, they make it thinner so that the missing parts you couldnt see on fullscreen fit on your screen. fullscreen is like O[OO] and widescreen is [ooo].
@Reiterj3 What are you talking about? DVD has a 720x480 resolution (345,000 pixels). BluRay movies have a 1920x1080 resolution (2,073,600 pixels). Not only that, but a DVD stores 4 to 8GB, BluRay stores 25 to 50GB of data. The image clarity is six times as high. The difference is as clear as day and night. Only a blind mole would say there is no difference.
@KingOfTelevision For most TVs limited is better than full. Full setting mostly applies to computer monitors. Some TVs has Full settings enabled within the TV itself. On Samsung televisions it's known as "HDMI Black Level". IF you have this enabled on your TV and and set your ps3 to full, then dark areas in games which are meant to be seen will appear entirely black onscreen. Most TVs you need to set it to limited. 99% of computer monitors should have it set to full.
24hz is the native hz that the movie is originally at. I think this is how sometimes movies look really fluid like when u walk into the sony store and notice those movies look a little too real
Yes, you can still hook up your PS3 with an ethernet cable even if your computer has a virus. The modem/router and your computer are two completely different hardware, if one fails it won't affect the other in software or hardware wise.
@Cance251 The truth is Blu-ray is clearer than ordinary DVD films. Like OSWReview said, on a large screen you would clearly see the difference between Blu-Ray + DVD.
Using PCM lets it give you the true audio as it's been mixed, then it'll let your amp/receiver/whatever else you have in your audio stack do the rest rather than the PS3 messing with it before it gets sent on to the dedicated gear that handles sound properly.
@hottyfromnotty uh... one has 25GB of storage space, and one has 50GB? That's the only difference. If you're asking what "dual layer means".. On an optical disc (DVD, BD, etc), data is stored on a layer of film embedded in the disc that a laser can read from. Dual layer optical discs have a second layer of film that has gone through a "semi-silvering", which basically just means, the player can select which layer it wants to read from by adjusting the intensity of the laser.
@biw1 It'd probably be the same in pounds, not as the same in worth, but still. --- How to synch 1. Sign in PSN. 2. Click Trophy Collection 3. It synchs if you have got any new trophies. If it doesn't, then just press triangle on trophy collection and choose "Synch with Server" yourself. - That's how easy it is.
@Cance251 The difference between bluray and dvd is that bluray is better in every conceivable way! Better picture, better sound, more storage, etc... The only way bluray is not worth it, is if you dont hav a HDTV. They are usually only a dollar or 2 more.expensive than a DVD and they usually come with a DVD. SO its like paying 2 dollars for the bluray. and yes, they do come in a snazzy blue case! :)
@D1D1P I felt that way too, bro. I finally snapped when my Xbox red ringed. After it died, I sold all my dvds to convert them to blu ray, and got a PS3. So far, I'm quite happy with my purchase.
Not sure what u mean by "bluetooth wireless modem next to your ps3" but to be able to connect online u need to have an ISP like roadrunner, at&t, aol, etc. or through a cellphone company (which is not wise for online gaming)
just as a heads up, not criticism, but if you build your own computer, you can save a LOT of money. I have a 2.9 ghz dual core, with 4gb ram, and Radeon HD 4670, and it cost me little over £300. Ps3 is still definitely my favourite system however
@NathanKlo it generally is, it depends on what kind of audio reciver you have, if it can decode dts-hd or dolby truhd in the reciever then pick bitstream, or if your reciever doesnt but supports multichannel linear pcm then pick linear pcm. its all about preference and what your equipment can or can not do
@ingeolusn It would be post your LG MODEL so we can look it up and make sure you have an HDMI connection. The old cables that came with a PS3 were composite. They didn't ship component. It's only recently that Sony started shipping HDMI cables with the PS3.
Well, it's not a game for everybody, It's a game that's supposed to make you react differently then other games, not to make you frustrated or angry. They want you to feel what the characters in the game are feeling. Anguish, panic from losing your own child; tense, scared from this killer on the loose, and many other emotions. This is a different type of game, which i like. I'm literallly buying a slim just for this game because i loved Farenheit(the other game made b same company)
The best thing about the PS3 Blu Ray is the fact it doesn't require the use of WiFi, unlike the PS4. Which means if you want to watch Blu Ray and the WiFi is out you're going to need a Blu Ray Player or your PS3
Wow thanks guys it does look better, yea audio I left it for bitstream mix cause I color cable connected to my surround sound I think you should only use Linear PCM when it's connected to a HDMI cord
There are way too many people buying a ps3, putting their old VGA cable in their ps3 and HD television and start moaning about the quality. Some people just don't get it.
@fpsisfun You can take your pS 3 anywhere and play PS3 games u buy from anywhere on ur PS3. though u would have to buy a adapter since Power levels in ur country might no be same as USA
i dont have my slim PS3 yet but i agree 10,000% with ur comment! PS3 is a bluray player u can game on, and it is one hell of a machine. but 360 is for strait up gaming! no linux bs no OHH i can play my old busted ass games from PS2 on my PS3 woow hooo no its just gaming! and also with the best online console experience there is! i just hope PSN gets better or as good as XBL.i just dont see it getting there until the charge for the service. gotta pay to play fellas, and give us a mic for god sake
Dude, are you? Think about it. The xbox was SO much more powerful than the PS2. Although the PS2 was far more popular for the large number of popular games, the xbox1 was still the dominant machine with better graphics, smaller loading times, Customization, compatability, and more.
HDMI is High-Definition Multimedia Interface is has BEST video/and audio available on the market its like component cables, into one cable, but 100x better
Blu ray will only be big when Microsoft uses the technology for their console, cause all the big game developers aren't going to spend twice as much time working on ps3 titles when they could get way more sales on the 360.
@anthonyairsoft there is no difference in visual presentation but blu ray has more memory and that sometimes leads to better visuals sometimes. not all the time but sometimes, but either than that there really is no difference.
@dimmufan88 Plus, the irony with the PS3 is that it's a great deal EVEN IF YOU DON'T GET ANY GAMES FOR IT (though you'll regret missing Uncharted 2, MGS4 and GOW III). It's a CD player, Web browser, DVD upscaler, Blu ray player, home media center... and this is just skimming the surface. The system has so much to offer to the point that it's worth $300 any day ($845 parts value...). The PS3 tends to have several *masterpiece* games, instead of plenty of "good" games. That's how I prefer it.
nightslayer63, PS3 exclusive games have dedicated servers, which means a better, more lag free online gaming experience. Nearly all xbox 360 games rely on peer 2 peer so if the host has laggy internet, everyone else in that online game will lag. Anyone who has common sense knows that dedicated servers in general are more solid and more reliable compared to peer 2 peer. ☺
@ingeolusn Yeah, that's it. Get a cheap HDMI cable from walmart or bestbuy for $19.95 or you can get them for as low as $5.00 online. And you'll have to hold down the power button when you power it on to change your cables because you want the PS3 to ask you to do an "auto detect" on your new cable. Other wise you wont be able to see anything on the screen when you hook up your new cable since your HD signal is going thru your old cables.
@tomihel2401 I couldn't agree more with you, I wonder if we'll ever have that kind of excitement for a console ever again. I will say though that I'm looking forward to the 3DS, but am I as excited about it as the PS1? Not quite lol
@XxHooksxX No, the old xboxs had like 32% chance of getting red ring, which ive never experienced after 5 years. and i only broke my mic myself from being clumsy. plus xbox live makes up for it completely because i have been on the psn and no one talks. plus....i dont think the live has ever been hacked for weeks on end.....
@TheCrysis95 no it is very much for gaming, i mean it hold a lot mor data than a dvd, about 3 or 4 times more, that is better for big games like gta which would have been bigger and more car/planes, but the dvd limited that, plus blu ray can have a better picture and graphics and it can hold more data, then it is more damage resistence. it also spins slow while giveing more data out than a dvd, games are getting bigger so you need a bigger space for more features, what you need is BLU RAY
Any of the settings won't really screw it up. To be honest if you don't know if it would work I would try it because your changing thinks you don't know. Just leave it as it is mate, works fine. But this is good if your HDMI and movie fan. P.s your PS3 won't allow you to choose options that will stop things from working.
@RollerCoaster107 Couldn't have put it better myself! Actually, M$ is playing catch up, with plans to include DVR capability in Xbox Live... of course, it'll probably come with another price increase... I wonder how much they can push the subscription price before people realize that they're getting ripped off...
What I find hilarious is that even 2 years after the Format War is over Microsoft still didn't even think about putting a Blu Ray Drive on the new Xbox. They might have deeper pockets but they have no ambition(Rebecca Crane, Assassin's Creed II).
@Spartakus90000 for the ps3 you dont have to buy a Hard drive and batteries for the controller. if you buy a hard drive for the xbox the price is the same
Not really Everyone has a different view of what fun is. Some people think Gran Turismo for hours is fun (me). Others think playing Halo with friends is more fun. And some think waving your Wii Remote around like an idiot is fun. lol
@RollerCoaster107 You mean you've never played a game before? Because PS3 games are on blu ray discs... that's why they store more data, rarely scratch, and have the blu ray logo on them...
coz not all dvd movies supports wide or full screen display and if u set it to full, the picture will stretch to fit the screen, so ur not viewing the original aspect ratio of the movie anymore.
