Orcas | January Low Snow | New Snow-machine

Waiting on my new snow machine to arrive by helicopter sling load on Tuesday. Huge disappointment with the snow depth this year so far. Still plenty on winter left in Alaska!
Don't know what happened to the harbor seal that the orca pod took interest in. Went through all my batteries and they were still messing around with the unlucky seal.

Hi Ed, I really enjoy coming home with you and doing all the things you do the first couple of days. I love your place so much, it almost makes me Spiritual {almost}, lol. I could see myself being retired like I am, sitting inside with candles drinking a nice hot toddy and watching the best light show in the world. Yes, I am jealous, lol. Thanks for sharing your special part of the world.

The wind turbine- situation: As a Vet radio operator in the German army- we had to build up mobil high transmission towers. Its a good think to have 6 instead of 3 steel cables. The other 3 in the mittle of the "tower" to reduce the pressure on this point. Also you could use a 1-2 meter long bigger pipe over the "pressure point" and put some foam in the beginning and the end into the pipe to stabilice this pipe. Outside the pipe 3 steel robes and this kind of support could keep it strong. As more wind pressure as higher an Turbine is as stronger must be the tower. When the strom knocks on the turbine the tower gets weak and then it can brake.. love fron Hamburg
@MountainMariner
@MountainMariner 6 месяцев назад
I had bought larger wire originally but they shorted me about 20 feet. So I used thinner guy wire. My fault for not replacing that thin wire before winter season.
@frankpohl4377
@frankpohl4377 6 месяцев назад
super! I am sorry that amazon is not sending a drone to you! As long as the turbine is not damaged ...but I think that you should use the extra 3 steel for the mittle place to take the deformations power from thet place.Its aluminium or not? Alu is not t he best in extrem cold.and the the turbine gets more weight by the windload. Then the stystem is more chaking and then braking@@MountainMariner

The guy wire bracket slid down the post because a wire got loose. So then the pole started wobbling in extreme winds. That was enough to snap the connector between the two poles.

I thought that was a really an interesting video, Ed. With that wind whipping when you were working outside it didn't seem like you'd be warm enough.
