We had no idea how important our youth was back in 1985...I love my life now, but if I could go back to visit, I'd book a year long trip in a heartbeat.
I totally agree with you. The 80s was fantastic for music so many different genres. Still play a lot of the music from back then. I am now 57 and can still remember the lyrics (can't remember what I did last week lol)
This is one of my dad’s favorite songs, he would listen to it in Mexico even when he didn’t understand the lyrics. He has always had the best music taste :)
I am originally from Japan and I moved to the USA in 80’s and didn’t speak very good English but I have listened to many different music and watched Soap operas and this was one of my favorite song. Now I am a grandmother and becoming an US citizen this year. Just like listening to 80’s songs , life is fantastic!
So true my friend I was 21 in 81'n dropped some LSD. At a yellow cab BBQ. A well suited gentleman 'n came out of the back of ab air transit Van had a iarge Binder he had said 100 thousand . Hits of blotter LSD he was a retired chemist. He was just topping up his pention ????;!''the life of a Rochdale''''chemistry bloke '' some came out of there With 5 $$$$$$.. million on there back'$ lok
I do feel lucky I was 22 when the song came out back in 85 now going to be 59 this year in 2022 all I can say is it went too fast but no regrets went through an amazing time with the 80s as my favorite decade
Entirely agree. We get married got divorced. People come and go. Imagine how many opportunities had we missed and how many precious moment ..these years. No regrets. I didnt realise it was Paul Humphreys did the vocal until today.
@@paulwan7258 yeah I like Paul Humphries voice I would have to say my favorite from him is souvenir I'm sure you know it but in case you don't remember give it a listen
I agree… I’m going to be 59 in March, and that period of time went by too fast. The music then was true music; not what they call music today. What we have today is trash. I’ll never forget seeing BOW WOW WOW performing I WANT CANDY on video, for the very 1st time, on MTV®️ I was mesmerized…. weren’t you? 🎉
Ditto...takes me back to when I first met my (now) wife. We´ve been married for more than thirty years now...and this song still has the power to take me back.
Takes me back to my "awesome" teens also. Honestly, every single hit from OMD does! I think I"m going to binge on "totally" 80s tonight (again) and reminisce...
@@andrewma3491 YA WE MUST ESPECIALLY IF THAT AGE IS 49 YRS !!! WELL TECHNICALLY IN 3 DAYS !! NUEVE DE ABREL (April 9 ) BUT HELLLLLLL. 2 THE YA !!! THE "80"s ESPECIALLY 4 MUSIC & 4 ME THE MID 2 LATE "60"s WITH THE BRITISH ROCK INVASION & PSYCHEDELIC ROCK , GREAT BANDS FROM AMERICA ALSO AT THE TIME..
Celebrating 50 this year. Decided to hold an 80's Party, together with 30 friends. This song, together with New Order, wow how they wrote music then. Genius. Still awesome after 24 years. Agree with everyone, I remember roller skating, Tea Dances (cheaper dances on a Saturday afternoon at a mall), waiting by the telephone... 80s was my favourite decade.
I am so grateful to have grown up in the '80s. An amazing time to be a kid. Rollerskating at Skateway in Orange County, CA. Holding hands with girls. I feel so sorry for kids today. This tune brings it all back - being 11 in 1986. Would not change it for anything.
If you listen to this song, you will feel a strange ecstasy and happiness inside of you. I listen to this everyday 'cause i know its better for your longevity.
DURAN DURAN,INXs,DEPECHE MODE,A-HA,TEARs FOR FEARs,THOMPsON TWINs,CULTURE CLUB.PET sHOP BOYs,REM.U2.GENERAL PUBLIC,THE CURE,LEVEL 42.---and many many more and of courze OMD....The 80's was a great decade!!!!...i glad to god that i live that decade!!!
Dont forget all the FREESTYLE. AKA ITALO DISCO !!! house party bands that got all the kids putting 50 series on their Nissan pickups, sentras, Maximas.. And 5.o's awe the good ol days..
My dad was an 80's guy so as a kid the 80's New Wave was always playing in our car while on the road. As a kid I was bored of his songs but now that I'm 19 this songs grew on me and is now the only playlist in my car. I miss my dad. Ps. He's not dead, just working overseas.
@@debra1232 love maid of orleans and enola gay and forever live and die, but so in love and Secret the best. I'm not going to argue though lol, but I am definitely right hahaha 😂😂😂
@@debra1232 I will take that as it's the closest iv ever been to winning an argument lol. One thing we can agree on is how good OMD are. 80's forever ❤
I lost my girlfriend 3 years and I'm still not over it and never will be. She loved OMD, and I also have all of her CDs, and I feel like you do when I listen to them, imagining her enjoying them in better days. Be well, my friend.
I was eight when I first heard this song, all I could remember was the haunting but upbeat melody pnctuated by "secret." I was in kindergarten in a Chinese school and I kept humming the tune and saying "seecreet..." and I didn't care if everybody else thought I was wierd.
This is SUCH an *archetypal* mid-1980s New Romantic song. It checks all the boxes -- I don't understand why it wasn't a bigger hit. I'm somewhat amazed it wasn't used in a John Hughes movie. It certainly takes me back to my teenage years, that's for sure. 😢
One of my favorites, too. To me it is much more their go to hit song than "If You Leave." I hear it as being about more than a secret crush or youthful romantic love, although it works on that level as well.
how right you are ! the 80 s was the best years of our lives and now in the 2020 s its depressing ! suppressing ! oppressing ! : we ca nt do anything without it been BANNED !
OMG, used to love this band, this song, everything about the 80s and still do. OMD was and still is at the top of that list. This song was so good, that I can't recall how many times we have danced to it. It is a feel good song that makes you want to get up and move. Thank you OMD for this amazing gift of music.
God, ain't that the truth. I walked through all my scholastic years w/ such hearts in my eyes. Usually, (for reasons I still don't understand) it was always for the most unattainable girls in the whole school. But a boy can dream can't he? You know, every now & again, the heavens would shine down from above....and you WOULD get the girl of your dreams. Those were always short lived, a few months, a semester....OR if you were REALLY Lucky.....A WHOLE SUMMER. (LISTEN to OMD/ So in love w/you. Now THAT song really does it for me)
Picture what it was like being in your 20's in the 80's and hearing this music in clubs...those memories are about the only thing that keep me going now...
This is one of my all-time _favorite_ songs! "So In Love" was the first I heard by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, and I quickly found more of their music, early September 1985, when I started working in a record store. I saw OMD open for Depeche Mode in 1988, in the _second row!_ It was a TOTAL BLAST! 💖💖💖
How cool! I saw OMD in 1988 when they played with Depeche Mode, New Order, and Gene Loves Jezebel at Pine Knob Amphitheater, near Detroit, Michigan. OMD by far gave the best performance. I still have the OMD t-shirt I bought there. I wore it for a while but it has been in a box for 30 years, still in like new condition. The first time I saw Depeche Mode was in 1985 with Book of Love opening.
Just watched netflix film ' There's someone inside your house' this was playing in background in party scene and i was immediately whisked back to being a kid. Just shows how powerful music is, great tune, great band.
They played in May here in Canada and was so bummed thru my seizure stuff that has happened was unhappy I couldn’t see them on their 40th anniversary. But that will change and watching that I laughed and the next day I got my dad and was like just wait and lets see which song plays and he said wow. Loved it ❤❤
People nowadays complaint, but have really no idea the amount of sacrifice and how much people did work. No comfort, no nothing. Our grandparents have gone through world wars, lost their families, belongings, their youth and had to start al over and yet kept their faith and joy.
This has got to be one of the most unique and amazing bands to come out of the 80's. What a great era that was. We don't realize how great we have it until that time is gone.
No song is the same from OMD they are masters of every track created , their sound in unique in so many ways , meaningful lyrics , timeless , a fantastic band from the 80´s
You said it Konrad! one of my fav from the 80`s , the kind of song you want it to keep hearing and keep going it so nice to listen too . Great synth pop tune from OMD...Im tired of hearing "if you leave" on the radio , wayyyy overplayed.
+Hanover Sofbits I agree I never hear this or any of their other songs. We need to do a mass writing to radio stations and tell them to play other OMD songs.
Go back in time of the 80s lots of the bands from this era had become internationally famous because they had something that’s hard to find today- real talent. Many of the bands of the past wrote music that had real depth to it.
Totally agree with you, only thing I will say is all music was so good then that so many great songs never got in top 10. It was real triumph to get to No1 unlike today
Their success in the UK was in decline by then with the exception of Forever ( Live and Die) in 1986. I used to think their eclectic sound was a strength but in truth I don't think they had a coherent approach because they were not musicians but were able to somehow craft sounds into a tune. A lot of what they have released in recent years sounds similar to what they have done in the past. Success in America occurred for them just as it was waning in Britain and the rest of Europe- So In Love was a US hit, If You Leave got to number 4 in 1986 and Dreaming reached number 13 in 1988. US top ten hits in those days would be enough to buy an expensive house in the UK.
Just saw them at The Greek in L.A. 2 nights ago and they still sound awesome! This was one of their encore songs along with “Electricity”. Everyone at the concert was up on their feet having the best time. Nothing like great music to take you back to a place and time of fond memories. We sure had the best music in the 80’s.
I was like 14 when this song came out. Love OMD. 80s alternative really stuck to my liking. OMD, Eursure, New Order, Depeche Mode can't get enough still to this day.
I love OMD. This song and others by them should always be included in any 80's music compilation. I had some OMD on cassette back in the 80's. This is so very timeless. Thanks.
How could I have forgotten this song? It was one of my favorites as a kid. Just heard it on the movie ‘There’s Someone Inside Your House’, and I was like, “HEY, I remember that song!!!!!” ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, the 80s. The music stays in our head after decades. That era before the digital music era was amazing. We bought a cassette or CD and because we can carry so many physical media on the go, we listen to the same music non-stop. Maybe that's the reason those music stays in our head forever and musical artist made more effort to put more quality tracks in 1 album?
I saw them here in Chile in February 2019. It was an amazing experience, the voices, the energy, the interaction with the audience... pure perfection!!!
