Though I'm not an orchid fanatic, I decided to pay a visit to the Long Island Orchid Festival at the Planting Fields Arboretum. Though it's a small show, I was nevertheless impressed with the selection.
This year, I went again for Round II and met up with Peter Stegemann to give us a brief history on the Long Island Orchid Society (www.longislandorchidsociety.org/) as well as some orchid care tips. We cover finding the right culture for your environment, common blunders when it comes to orchids, why orchids can be more closely akin to cacti when it comes to care (than to tropical plant care), and even how many you have to kill to be a proper orchid enthusiast. :)
